On mine (running the GM tvOS 12/final 12 release), it has a "Check HDMI Connection" tab under the audio/video tab, and that does a cable test. Is that not showing on yours?

You have a problem. Try pulling the plug and check again. “Check HDMI Connection” should be right under “Match Content” and above “Reset Video Settings”.

Yes I do. But I really don't care at this point. There's other bugs I'd like Apple to take care of...

Guess I have to choose between DV or dolby Atmos. Have a TV that plays DV but doesn't pass atmos via ARC and a receiver that supports atmos but doesn't pass DV. Is there a work around out there for this setup?
Thanks.

I believe this device does what you want. Maybe an owner can chime in (or check out the thread for it here on AVS).

There are various options that will split the output into video/audio. A few have been mentioned previously in this thread but it's a common and generic issue.

I might type 2K for 1080p.

HDFury makes various products that split HDMI. Some folks don't like the performance/capabilities of the less expensive models. I have direct experience with the Vertex which can be fiddly.

Personally, unless you have a special attachment to your AVR, I'd just sell it and upgrade. Might cost a little more than buying a splitter but will be far less fiddly imo.

Please spend a bit of time hanging around the relevant forum on this website if you’re intending to purchase the avr key. It seems to have some limitations / performance issues with the Apple TV. Im loathe to share this information because I’m not 100% sure but I heard it didn’t support Apple TVs chosen method of sending atmos

Thanks. I learned something new today. I thought Atmos metadata could only be sent with DD+ or TrueHD, didn’t know it worked with PCM. So, it seems like Apple has little reason to add true bitstreaming now. I was hopping that Atmos was going to push them in that direction.

It’s cool, DD Atmos lights up on my Denon even though I do not have any Atmos speakers. I’m still stuck with an old fashion 5.1 setup. This might get me to look at adding height speakers or those Dolby Atmos speakers that go on top of your fronts.

I can save you the trouble. That wasn’t it — see the first thumbnail below. I have also included an additional thumbnail depicting the typical settings that many of us use with the device set to 4K SDR.

I could be wrong @markus767 , but since you have your Format set to 1080p SDR I presume your display doesn’t support 4K so perhaps EDID is telling the ATV4K you have no need for a Check HDMI Connection option. Likewise the reason the Enable HDR option is missing in your screen shot.

Something else you might not have noticed in your settings is that when you have the ATV4K set to 1080p SDR the Chroma setting is missing (which appears to be normal based on my first screen shot below using that Format).

I'm tempted to buy Oceans 8 again ... just to see if I can fix my problem that way.

Someone gave me an iTunes gift card and it's currently on sale.

The version I have was a Vudu UDH code that ported into iTunes with 4K. (THough JPFK is also problematic and I bought that in iTunes proper.)

In the meantime, what helps is I found some movies with HDR/4K that aren't affected and also the movies that are affected I can watch using the Vudu app on ATV4k.

(I tried disconnecting my VUDU from MA and reconnecting it .. that didn't help.)

Since I can watch other stuff without problem... I've just been doing that. I think maybe if I watch enough to over -rite any cache of the problematic movies then maybe they will load properly.

The good news for now is the whole system is still functional. I can watch 4K HRD iTunes movies (whew... I was concerned none of them would work)... just some movies that want to be problematic.

The problem is you're trying to watch Oceans 8. Your ATV is just trying to protect you from the mental anguish. If anything take that giftcard and reward that selfless ATV4K with a right proper movie.

I believe that only the HDfury Vertex can pass Dolby MAT. Need to verify that.

Before you purchase anything, have you verified that your AVR can accept non-DV input with Atmos? Some older AVRs do not support Dolby MAT either.

[I thought I check Vertex+MAT but now I don't think so.]

I believe @nathan_h has a Vertex so my response should be taken in that context . The Vertex can actually be extremely fiddly. I wouldn't suggest one except under special circumstances, e.g. you have multiple HDMI outputs and can dedicate one to the Vertex.

Early versions of the Vertex firmware wouldn't pass ATV (Profile 5) DV. Later versions wouldn't work when directly connected to the ATV4K. Recent versions won't pass video from my Sony 700 player. You really want a splitter that's built with commodity HDMI 2.1 transceivers rather than a device that can do many clever things but requires programming an FPGA every time an uncommon HDMI feature (DV, MAT) becomes popular.

I might type 2K for 1080p.

My point was supported bandwidth not the ATV output setting. @Musician 's response suggests the former. There's no reason to test the wrong thing. Perhaps we'll find out if the sink supports 4K.
