Streaming MLB At Bat game with forced Dolby Vision conversion and it looks pretty damn good. Not sure I will leave it like this, but thought I would try after updating software.

That looks absolutely awful to me, way too saturated and blown out.

To each his own I guess.

Probably looks better in person. Cameras will never see what we see.

It is definitely over-saturated, but better in person. I switched it back to match content.

Tested today the new 12.3 beta 2 and I'm happy to say that ycbcr and rgb behave the same way finally.

That’s pretty big news....I’d given up hope on that. Thanks for testing! Hopefully they can get that 24hz bug fixed now.

Does the bug you’re talking about manifest in dropped frames very 30 seconds or so? Is there a fix for that now? I’m set for 4K SDR , YCBCR, 444, match range and frame.

That’s the bug I’m talking about but there is no fix for it yet. The bug I responded to caused colour inaccuracies in YCBR mode. Probably not enough for most people to notice but it was a bit of a big deal for people who had went to the extent of getting their screens calibrated.

Unplug it or Reset it and see if that corrects the problem.

I don't have a Shield but I've wondered about my Our Planet on the ATV4k vs the LG Netflix app? (I have c8). And by 'better audio" on the Shield what do you mean? Don't both offer you Dolby Atmos for Our Planet? Is it the PCM part?

I’m guessing he’s talking about better audio for local content.

Better audio means that the Shield can pass through bitstream audio so local content on attached storage can send lossless Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Also as far as I'm aware Netflix on the Shield does not have Atmos.

Bitsream support on the ATV would make the box the ultimate streamer\video player IMO. However I don't see any appetite from Apple to do this.

On my local content when it decodes to PCM it never sounds as dynamic as it does on the Shield, it sounds lower volume and more flat. Even on content from Vudu I find the Shield sounds better, same more dynamic range deeper lows, etc. I find my self asking for any given content a set of questions, if it is a local rip on my NAS I usually use my Oppo 203 especially if it is BD or 4K and has a lossless soundtrack that I expect to have a good audio track. If it is online content I ask myself if I expect the audio or video aspect of the content to be my important and if it is Audio I usually do a Shield, if Video then ATV4K.

Clearly Our Planet was about the stunning video. I am sure since it was a Netflix produced show they biased the PQ and bitrate as I swear it looked as good as I would expect from. 4K disc, but I would still buy the disc if they sold it.

I know most of the country does not have access to high bandwidth broadband, but I think these streaming services need to offer a premium plan for folks that have the bandwidth to stream at better physical media quality audio and video, hell that is when I would consider no longer buying physical media and pay the bump in streaming media prices.

They need to pass the native lossless stream without the conversion to PCM as I think it flattens the sound a bit. It could be the way my Denon decodes lossless vs. just passing through PCM as I have noticed that even on physical media where I have option of say True-HD or PCM I always pick non-PCM format. If they passed native stream then I would ditch all my Shields in a second.

Agree 1000%. I had a shield really liked it but never got on with Kodi/Mr MC/Plex so sold it sometime ago. I now use a Zidoo Z9S when I need lossless sound. However I tried the ATV and think overall its great especially using Infuse for video. I don't have any other Apple products but do like the ease of use and appreciate having Atmos on Netflix.

Als0 agree with having option for higher bandwidth streaming if you have it available.

Hi,

I brought my ATV4K with me on a trip to Fla to visit my daughter

I love having all my stuff with the interface I’m used to

I read about someone unhappy iTunes is coming to new devices like smart TVs and Roku but I’m convinced the ATV4K is the best gizmo I’ve ever had

That Zidoo looks impressive, too bad the remote is not Bluetooth. How is the PQ because while the Shield looks really good, the ATV4K PQ is a tad better. I really want to stay Android, but Apples's execution is pretty reliable.

The PQ is very good on the Z9S - better than the shield but its no good as an Android box. Anyway don't want to talk other products here! Agree with the ATV it does a lot right.

I have the Yamaha CX-A5100 and it definitely flattens the sound, even to the point that I turn off Dolby Atmos and use Dolby Digital 5.1 for everything that's not streaming in Dolby Atmos

I have the pre 4K version of Apple TV and will be buying the 4K when I get my new 4K TV. I am also planning on buying Bluesound Node 2i. I have converted all my CD's to AIFF. They are in a playlist folder on iTunes. I am hooking up the Apple TV and Bluesound via Ethernet. Is there a way to add a folder to the HD of Apple TV and store my AIFF's there and have Node 2i find them. I have extra HD's. Would it be better to create a folder and add my AIFF's to that rather than go through iTunes or Apple TV. Thanks

If it’s a person he knows and that person is paying for A Netflix account with multiple streams, it’s not stealing. Take that soapbox to another town.
