Amazon Prime Sound

Amazon has some great music concerts, but why is the sound quality so poor; anemic, lacking bass?

I was watching the AppleTV + trailer for Greyhound on my 4K ATV and it showed up as Dolby True HD on my AVR screen it then switches to Dolby Atmos, I’m guessing Apple is now using DTHD to carry the Atmos/PCM. This inspired me to do a sound comparison between a 4K blu ray playing DTHD and the AppleTV version and scene for scene sounded very very close!

Probably just a quirk of your AVR displaying "DTHD" instead of "MAT" (which can be TrueHD or PCM). In any case the AppleTV+ stream was lossy Dolby Digital (Plus) converted to MAT.

Greyhound shows as Dolby Atmos/PCM for me.

With a simple statement like you posted without any additional information it could possibly be interpreted as trolling.
The upscaling is better on the Firestick 4K. Plus I can use Kodi. Since using Kodi I never looked
back.

The upscaling is better on the firestick?! I'd say you're settings are off somewhere. My ATV4k easily has better upscaling than my firestick 4k.
Also, can't stand kodi.

I use both.. and to my eyes, appletv upscaler is better than firestick..

By the way you can get Kodi variant mrmc on appletv for a few dollars.. but infuse is my pick for local playback

At each of my two main viewing locations (home theater and family room) I have a FireTV Stick 4k, Nvidia Shield (2017), and a ATV 4k. I have tried a/b/c testing with my wife randomly switching between streaming devices and playing the same clip. I was not able to accurately guess which streaming device was playing...FWIW.

Just curious what AVR you guys are using? I'll have to check Greyhound myself to see what it does. I know in general my X4500H will show DD+ for most content and then the Dolby MAT version of Atmost just shows up as Atmos on the AVR. I've never seen it show TrueHD or MAT for anything from the ATV.

Prior to the 2019 shield, the earlier versions are known for having very poor upconversion. I can easily see this on my shield.
Which is why they touted it being improved so much on the 2019 shields.
You're lucky you can't see it. There's things that people say they see, like judder and such, that I just can't. I guess i'm lucky in that respect.

Agreed. Most of the apps on Firestick 4k don't even match framerate. Like I said, if it weren't for Hulu's lack of Dolby on Apple TV, I would never use my Firestick.

Yeah lack of 5.1 on ATV for Hulu is really annoying. I refuse to buy another streaming device just for that. However, I realized, somewhat ironically, that my Xfinity DVR now has a Hulu app lol. I loaded it up, and behold, 5.1 on some of the content. So I guess if there's something on there I really want to watch with 5.1 I'll use my DVR's app for it. Otherwise I'll avoid it. Apps on the DVR are sooooooo slooooooow. It's like it's running on a computer from the early 2000's or something.

I also have the Xfinity Flex box because its free. Hulu, Peacock and everything on it that I have tested seem to all have 5.1 sound. You can also get the new AMC streaming service that is currently only offered to Xfinity customers. But, the picture is not as good as the Apple TV. It also does not offer framerate matching. I am waiting to see if the Peacock app for Apple TV will have surround sound at launch. But, I am not holding my breath. I am also hoping there will be an AMC Channel for Apple.

My understanding how that works is by force those apps like Disney+ to a preset refresh rate, like 23.97. Then what happens when I watch a documentary which usually is 29.9 or a rare 24.0 film?

The real solutions comes in Android TV 11.

Yamaha 7850. The only 2 displays I see using the ATV is PCM and, when applicable, Atmos/PCM ..very briefly DTHD for about a second before the latter readout. BTW certain EAC 3 audio files can display That Atmos display in Infuse, also. I’m set up with a 5.1.2 configuration.

I set the display to 4K 23.976. When I encounter something that is other than 23.976 I use that allows me to force the display into any refresh rate I want. It's clunky but it will do.

On Samsung TV, make sure UHD color is enabled on the HDMI port you are using. It defaults to off and hence won't display HDR.

You said deep color. This setting is explicitly called UHD color, not deep color.

Also exactly which app you have problem with?
