I've been dealing with this all day. If it's really this "enhanced" setting, I've got your bar tab if you ever visit.

The difference between connecting the ATV 4K to the TV directly and receiver pass-through is typically you must turn an enhanced HDMI setting on for the receiver. Make sure device to receiver and receiver to TV are both using cables that can handle the bandwidth (18Gbps). HDMI premium certified cables are tested to handle the bandwidth at the length of the cable which I would recommend purchasing if you still have issues after verifying you enabled Enhanced mode on the receiver.

Enhanced Mode? Doesn't sound very intuitive if that solves his problem. On the Yamaha receiver it's just Direct (no video conversion) which just sends whatever the native signal is to the tv if the tv can handle it.

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Standard supports up to 10GHz signal input. Enhanced up to 18GHz. It needs to be set to enhanced for each HDMI input that will receive 4K60 4:2:0 10 bit or 4K60 4:2:2 12-bit input from a player.

I think Denon added the 4K Standard/Enhanced setting starting with the 4400 model. My 4200 does not have the setting but my 6400 does.

Does that mean the 4300 won't pass full HDR? Why has it always passed it to the JVC without issue?

Thanks,

Pip

It will pass 4K60 10-bit. It just doesn't have a setting to allow/disallow it.

Did you see my post in another thread? Try setting your TCL to PC mode in order to accept 4:4:4.

Thanks claw. I didn't catch that.

Should this make a difference? I've already forced the TCL HDMI setting to 2.0. Also remember that direct from the devices (bypassing the Denon) the TCL displays everything perfectly at any and all output settings - both the ATV and 820 - even when set at 4:4:4 - never a problem.

The TCL in computer mode looses some picture settings so I'd rather avoid that.

Thanks so much as always

It’s working in Movies and VUDU, but mixed luck in Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’ve got a few UHD/HDR10 movies in Prime that work but Jack Ryan, Hanna do not. Bosch worked though.

The things I tested that weren’t working on the ATV work in my native Sony display apps.

Yup, my 2016 Sony AVR with 4K HDR pass-through and my new Denon both have “enhanced” format, so I knew to look for it when seeing the same thing the other week. Samsung has the HDMI UHD Color setting on their TVs which also impacts supported UHD bit depth and chroma. Different vendors have different names for it. On the Sony AVR it can be set per hdmi input. On the Denon it’s just on or off for all inputs.

As of this afternoon my ATV was had no problem with HDR on Netflix or iTunes. Prime TV shows had HDR also. Couldn’t pay me to watch a movie on the Prime app. Can’t speak for any other source

According to the article below the enhanced setting was added with the 2017 Denon AVRs for compatibility across all inputs. @Pip , try using a different input on the receiver:

https://denon-uk.custhelp.com/app/an...gh-not-working

In this article they say to only use HDMI 5, 6 or 7 (which is not necessary for my 2018 Denon since it has the Enhanced setting).

I see HDR using HDMI 1 to my Vizio P75-C1 on my X2300W which is older than his model.

Okay, your comment actually proves both the ATV and receiver should work with HDR. I would be happy to hear what the resolution is as many visit this thread and look for answers to similar problems with their equipment and ATV.

To move the topic along, in response to @healthnut , I haven’t had any issues with HDR on the ATV (on tvOS 12.4). Netflix, iTunes Movies, and Vudu have all been working well, however I don’t use Amazon very often. They seem to have a lot of issues reading this forum. Vudu / MA is a great way to watch Disney content in 4K HDR on the ATV. I had an issue recently where Atmos stopped working on all apps. Restarted / pulled the plug on everything. The fix was actually to just turn off Atmos on the ATV and turn it back on. Of course I did the simplest thing last and haven’t had the issue since.

Another thing to try might be changing the TCL input setting from Auto to HDMI 2.0 (same as enhanced mode on the denon which apparently was added to later models).

https://support.tclusa.com/televisio...lay-in-4k-60hz

The denon article I previously posted mentioned disabling video conversion. Also worth a shot. Good luck!

Looking for help to determine where my issue is. I have a new Yamaha 3080 receiver and an Apple TV 4k hooked up to an LG C9. My speaker config is 5.1.4 and I am really struggling getting Atmos from ATV with either the Amazon Prime or Netflix apps. Vudu seems to not have an issue. I did some searches and not sure I found anything worthwhile. Any suggestions?

LG OLED65C9, Yamaha RX-A3080, Paradigm Reference Studio 80 Mains, Atmos 5.1.4 config, Panasonic UB820, PS4 Pro, Apple TV 4K

No problem, the ATV is a great streaming device. Apple updates the firmware and adds new features periodically. There are many apps in the App Store and they are actively maintained by developers. If you get one be sure to switch the video settings to 4K SDR (4:4:4) and enable match range and frame rate.

I did some searches and not sure I found anything worthwhile. Any suggestions?

Both of those apps are having issues right now. I’m confident Netflix correct it. Not so sure about Prime.

Seems I didn't read that last page or two which pointed that out. Thanks for the follow up. I almost started ripping cables out. But I saw that Vudu was working so knew the connection was good. Guess I will just be "patient"... or my version of that.

Thanks again. I recognize that all these streaming boxes have their issues, I’m hoping that Apple is the least problematical.

I have had no problems since the update to tvOS 12.4. (I also upgraded the firmware on my Sony 75Z9D.)
