I’ve had this problem for quite a while. Dialogue moves to left top Atmos speaker. Netflix blames my equipment and states is not aware of problem. Bandwidth is 70 mb/sec.

Got it, I was responding to lujan, but also quoted you to show the train of thought. I too have never had any audio issues with CBSAA, and am much happier with shows like Star Trek: Discovery now being in 5.1 as opposed to the first season when they were only in Stereo (though 5.1 in other countries).

Spoiler!

Attached is my comparison of HBO on Apple TV Channels vs HBO max app that I just made while playing IT Chapter Two. The test was for five minutes in the same place in the movie. I'm now getting a higher bitrate with HBO max. To me, and its really hard to tell, HBO max looks like a better picture. Back in April I performed a similar test with HBO NOW after it was updated with the frame rate fix. It had this higher bitrate back then. Apple TV Channels had a higher bitrate back then. The big problem for me now with HBO max, when I play this movie, I do not get surround with HBO max.

The first picture is Apple TV Channels. The second is HBO max.

I was going to run a test myself but stumbled across this article where someone already had tested it on the ATV.

Thanks @solarrdadd , been happening for a month or two and mostly any program I watch within the CBS App, cuts out. Never had any sort of audio issues with any other app.

subbed to HBO through Apple TV channels and it seems like you can't actually access the hbo max content through the apple tv app, you need to use the HBO max app. in the hbo max app you need to select Apple TV as a provider and sign in with your apple id

Good morning/afternoon

I am halfway through the process of ripping my BD collection with MakeMKV (about 300 total). I have just ordered the Synology DS-918+ with 4x4TB drives. I wanted to get an NVIDIA Shield Pro (for ATMOS) but it looks like no one has them in stock. While searching the internet about ATMOS and ATV4K I found something that was interesting. A youtube blogger seems to believe that we will be getting a new ATV soon. If that is the case and It can do ATMOS lossless I am all in. Until we know more I need to get my PLEX streaming media server up and running and was thinking I could use an older ATV HD. Can anyone tell me if the HD will stream PLEX and what are any drawbacks using the HD version and not the 4K version?

I don't want to leave the wrong impression here. I have tested this movie and other content several times. Sometimes I get surround sound. Other times I do not for the same content. So, maybe there is work being done or some other issue. However, HBO max today has consistently tested with a higher bitrate over the HBO Apple TV channel. Maybe the difference is a load issue. Maybe its a difference between the codec being used for Apple TV Channels and the one being used for the HBO max app. Who knows.

Don’t expect ATMOs for any possible new version of the AppleTV. It’s not a hardware limitation currently, it’s software and Apple has never allowed bitstreaming of audio. If you want bitstreaming then Shield or an Android based device is your best hope. No need for Plex with the ATV4K as there is Infuse and MrMc.

I don't have the ATV4K, my son just left his ATVHD when he went to school and I am wondering if that will work and send me at least 7.1 even if it isn't ATMOS?

HBO Now has left the building

Since HBO is expected to leave Channels any comparisons between Now and Max have a short shelf-life.

I might type 2K for 1080p.

For those of you who use YouTube TV via ATV: Is there a way to change channels the old school way without having to go back to the menu and scan content on the main menu? I'm using YTTV via ATV because the native app on my A9G is very buggy with this weird static line always flashing at the top of the screen.

It works much better on ATV, but I kind of miss the feature of being able to just surf through content. I'm guessing there isn't a way, since Apple buttons are so limited, but I was curious.

- Sony 65A9G OLED
- Panasonic UB-820 4K BD Player/Apple 4K TV
- Yamaha Aventage RX-A1080 AVR/Outlaw Model 5000 AMP
- SVS Prime Towers (2)/Prime Center/SB-2000 Pro Subwoofer 12"
- Polk MC80 In-Ceiling 8" Speakers (2)

9to5Mac noticed that the HBO icon has been removed from Channels unless you're a current subscriber to Now and drew the obvious conclusion or acted like journalists and investigated asked around.

[Edit]
Peripherally the HBONow app"updates" to HBOmax.

If this is true, I assume it will be removed from Amazon Prime Video Channels and the Roku Channel's Premium Subscriptions as well. HBO was added to Apple TV Channels less than a year ago and to Roku Premium Subscriptions barely a year ago. I wonder how much of an effort it was for these companies to integrate HBO into their systems.

I have verified this to be true. I have an iPhone on a different account. The HBO icon is gone. You can still subscribe from Amazon Prime Video Channels.

Cinemax is still there.

Both my ATV4K sit idle ever since the 2019 Shield Pro came out. The PQ is now comparable and the Shield remote is better and the Shield is just so flexible with Kodi to bitstream and refresh rate matching. The only time I use ATV4K is for the few titles I bought that are iTunes only and I stopped buying iTunes only titles a while back.

I get ATMOS via VUDU app on Apple TV. Might want to clarify what kind of ATMOS you mean.

Ok so I watched at least 15 minutes of the following shows:

Star Trek Discovery S1 random episode

Star Trek Picard S1 finale

F B I S2 random episode

The Twilight Zone (original series in B&W)

Not one audio dropout during any of those shows for me. I don’t know your gear, but my ATV4K is connected to my marantz pre-amp and the ATV4K is Ethernet connected.

Can’t explain why you are having issues with just this one app. Perhaps you should delete the app and reinstall it and see if it happens again as I believe it has to do with the app since you said this is the only one that does it.

Best of luck with getting it resolved.

I was having an issue with CBS App where audio would cut out for a brief second periodically while watching shows. When I got a newer TV the audio dropouts accompany with quick white flash on screen. My AppleTV 4K is connected to a Denon AVR-X4400 then to the TV Samsung 85” Q7DR. I posted about the issue here and was told it possibly can be an HDMI cable issue. I replaced the cable and the problem went away. I notice that CBS streams at 60 Hz as opposed to 24 Hz like other apps.
