My Vault 2 and my T758v3 both work fine with either my desktop app or Android mobile apps on my tablet & phone. I only have issues with my new NAD M10 working with the Windows desktop app.

Thanks everyone; turns out when I try to find the Tidal app on my TV, it's not there, since my TV is early 2017, and I need later 2017 to have the app.

So my options are the dragonfly, the blue sound, or a new TV :-)

I shall ruminate!

Problem with MQA

So I pay the $19.99 to get all the good stuff. Last week I was playing the new Diana Krall album from the app which is under the Master Quality...everything was great. Below the songs it says "Master"....well, last night, same album and I tried with other MQA albums, below the song it now says "HiFi"...what gives? All my setting are set to Master and have been forever...I'm confused~

Doesn't matter what your settings are, it matters which album you choose. That can be tricky because the MQA vs CD symbol can be hard to see. I think on my Android tablet, I can't see them at all.

The TV's change early and often...get a Bluesound Node 2 or 2i. At least they get free updates to firmware and apps on a regular basis.

Added benefit: You won't need the TV on to enjoy music.

Ken,

What are the main advantages of a Bluesound setup vs Audioquest Dragonfly? I get that the Bluesound OS makes navigating easier and that there are some whole home advantages. They sound appealing but at a much higher cost.
Plus the Dragonfly has portability advantages as I understand.

It is indeed those things you mentioned, the entire BluOS system and multi-player/location capability. For many, the playlists you can create and save is huge. Players also have headphone outputs, though if using a Dragonfly you may well be on a mobile device with earbuds or headphones anyhow.

Screen shot from the Windows app (Win10 PC), playing out of my new NAD M10 amp to KEF LS50's. Sounds amazing.

I wonder if it has something to do with SONOS. When I just play it on my phone it shows "Master"
When I switch it to play on my SONOS it goes back to "Hifi"

Maybe relates to data streaming speed I have noticed similar. There are a number of options in streaming settings have a look there.

Sonos doesn't support Tidal MQA from what I understand.

hey ken, i noticed through the node2i blueos app that it is in mqa, but i get a green light rather than the typical light blue any idea what the green signifies? edit: it's just the new album diana krall w/ tony bennett that it's green light.

No clue. I either get blue or nothing. It may be that it's encoded MQA but not being fully "unfolded." Google it?

Edit: I also see green on that one. I was initially thinking a color blind condition as it's far more prevalent than most people think, particularly in men. But that's green for sure.

got the answer.....

In the BluOS app, the MQA indicator displays green or blue to indicate that the unit is decoding and playing an MQA stream or file, and ensures the listener that the sound is identical to that of the source material. It displays blue to indicate it is playing an MQA Studio file, which has either been approved in the studio by the artist/producer or has been verified by the copyright owner.

so i assume it's a stream version of mqa....

I returned my Bluesound Node 2i and traded the Marantz HD-DAC1 for the dual AK4497 design TEAC NT-505, which I control with the better Lumin app, as it will only allow MQA decoding via network, and not USB, which is not an issue at all for me. Let me tell you that it has been a joyful experience. For the past week my HT has been left alone as the PC system is at a whole new level.

I am discovering some fine new artists.

My PC setup:
NT-505>AQ King Cobra RCAs>Parasound Zamp v.3.2>ProAc Tablette 50s

I signed up for the 30 day trial of Tidal.

I have a built in Tidal app on my AVR FLAC audio sounds good but the built in App is very clunky and a major pain to navigate. My AVR also has a smartphone app to control the AVR Tidal app but it still is not ideal or as user friendly as the Tidal smartphone app.

The AVR also has built in Chromecast (which I think uses my home wifi). With Chromecast I can use the app on my phone and cast to the AVR. It seems to sound pretty good but A - B tests are difficult because of the extended time to switch from one input to the other so it is difficult to tell if I am losing some quality.

For those of you that stream to your high end home audio system, how do you do it to get full flac goodness without any or minimal sound degradation ?

If there is no easy way to stream to my AVR without a loss of sound quality it probably would be best to stick with Google Play Music at high quality streaming and save some money.

I feel infinite

Bluesound Node 2i is the best for me! I have it connected to a Parasound Halo Integrated via optical cable for 2 channel listening and also to my Marantz AV-8805 via L/R analog cables to the 7.1 channel analog inputs for listening in my theater. I use Tidal HiFi and Masters and also Quboz for uncompressed audio streaming. The sound is outstanding!!

How do you stream Tidal to your Bluesound Node 2i? I think Tidal is built into it, if so, how do you navigate Tidal, with the Tidal smartphone app ? Or does Bluesound Node 2i have it's own Tidal smartphone app (kind of like onkyo AVR has).

The main thing I am looking for is to have the Tital sound that my AVR currently gets with it's built in Tidal app with a user friendly way to navigate and find music on Tidal. (The Onkyo Tidal app sounds great but the app to control it is really bare bones )

I feel infinite

The main thing I am looking for is to have the Tital sound that my AVR currently gets with it's built in Tidal app with a user friendly way to navigate and find music on Tidal. (The Onkyo Tidal app sounds great but the app to control it is really bare bones )

I use the Bluesound app on my iPhone, iPad or laptop. The app is awesome and extremely user friendly. Tidal, QoBuz and a ton of other streaming services are built in to the Bluesound stuff. You can also pull from a network server if you want to among other things. For me, it’s a beast!!

To get the absolute best out of Tidal you’ll want to be able to decode MQA which is going to require further investment. Cheapest route being Dragonfly dac using a pc/Mac and the next cheapest route being a Bluesound Node which George has already mentioned.

The Node connects to your WiFi network and you connect it to your AVR using RCA connectors to get the best sound. As George has mentioned you also get a bunch of other streaming options. The best being Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer.

I did some searching on youtube and saw the iphone app. I assume the Android app is just as good. I see there is a Bluesound Node 2 and a Bluesound Node 2i - is there a difference? The price seems similar.

My Onkyo reciever decodes MQA via Tidal - https://www.forbes.com/sites/markspa.../#737488055651

The main issue is the smartphone or onscreen interface. Bluesound Node 2's smartphone interface looks as good or better than the native Tidal app. I hate to spend $400 on Bluesound for a better app interface. But if it is a pain to use on the Onkyo it is not really worth having.

I feel infinite

You need the Node 2i which is the latest one that allows for MQA unfolding. I think when they updated the firmware, that also enabled the Node to be MQA capable. I have had a Node 2i for a couple months and that has solved my issue with Apple/HEOS not playing Tidal Master tracks. Bluesound is absolutely amazing with its capabilities and the built in DAC is outstanding. Especially with a very good set of headphones (I use Audeze iSine 20’s and OPPO PM3’s) connected via the headphone jack on the front. I have it connected to my Halo Integrated via a high end optical cable and a set of high end analog cables and I cannot hear a difference between the DAC in the Node 2i and the DAC in the Halo Integrated and that DAC is outstanding.
