ok, I get what you are trying to say but you do understand that both Kodi and Plex are native apps...that is what makes what you are saying confusing.

Yes I'm aware.... But I specifically say I don't use them. That should have made it less confusing imo.

Yeah but the box is now 3 years old right?

Though it might make sense for them to wait until they can at least add HDMI 2.1.

They could add Low Latency DV like Sony added on the current unit. HDMI 2.1 will be a hardware change so maybe on the next Shield.... 2019 maybe.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV: I look for info

Hi, I'd like to buy this NVIDIA SHIELD TV external box to play my UHD videos. I explain better: I don't watch TV but I make documentaries and I put them in my HDD. In a HDD I have around 25 UHD documentaries I made with my camera and videocamera. I'd like to watch them on my 65" Sony Bravia TV. The most important think for me is to see all the titles on one page. Then I click on a title and I watch it. Does NVIDIA SHIELD TV have this option?
Can you attach a screenshot of its screen please?
I attach a pic so that you understand what I need: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ri54htmindagj59/Video%20fila.jpeg?dl=0
I thank you for your info.

PS: I'm inexperienced about it and as I don't watch TV, is is better I buy another good player?

I'd restart the Shield and it would be ok for a while. This was a few days ago.

And tonight, I start Netflix and highlighted the movie Mute till the auto preview started and about a minute it, Netflix would just shut down and I'd end up back at the Shield home screen. This happened twice. My Roku works perfectly and has no hiccups viewing programs on Netflix.

Both are doing 4K and HDR.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
I had no issues and watched most episodes on the Shield over my ATV4K as I am tired of DV issues and that damn ATV4K remote.

I've compared the Netflix movie "Bright" via DV on my Vizio to the HDR10 on the Shield. Didn't notice a difference at all. Not a deal-breaker for me.

What I really want implemented is software decoding of VP9 Profile 2 (HDR for Youtube), which is totally possible as well.

You don't have a movie/TV library stored on HDDs or a NAS? If so, I'd definitely look into Kodi, works great.

I use SmartCast for Netflix and Vudu Dolby Vision only. Everything else I use is done on the Shield. Just because I don't use Plex or Kodi doesn't mean I'm not allowed to use this device.

Just wanted to drop back in and say thank you to everyone who answered my question about how or if the lack of Dolby Vision support impacts their use of this device. I am much closer to picking one up than I was before I asked the question. I may, however, first wait and see just how well my Apple TV 4K handles my UHD content via Plex when my C7P is delivered.

It may all be fine once Infuse updates their app to include Plex integration. At that point, I will no longer have to worry about the tvOS native video player and it’s lack of codec support. I am so heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem that I likely will not make a switch to the Shield unless I need to. Everything else with my Apple TV 4K’s works very well for me. Once they finally incorporated frame rate matching, that was a bit of a homerun for me.

Hey All,

I just purchased the Nvidia Shield TV (locally) to test out some of my files. It's playing my 4K HDR files, mkv, mts, mov, everything I'm throwing at it after installing VLC to read the files. I have a 2 TB USB Drive connected directly to it and it's plugged into Input (HDMI) 2.

This thing was $194 after taxes!!

Is this something the 900e should be able to do should be able to do without me getting this $200 device? I have tried to plug in the same 2 TB HD directly to the TV, it knows a drive has a plugged in but can never see any of the HD's data. The drive is formatted as OS X Extended also, I heard NTFS would work but not sure. Wanted to check with you guys 1st.

Thanks

Infuse right now only connects to media via Plex through DNLA. It’s like it treats your Plex server like an external hard drive, but then it has to download all its own metadata. It takes forever. The only part Plex plays in your Infuse app right now is basic access to your media files.

Their next beta will allow Infuse to works more like a Plex client. This new method will allow you to use Plex as a backend in a truer sense. Infuse will use the Plex metadata and library structure from you server. You will get all the great features of the Plex server, but the use of Infuse as a media player.

Hey, coincidentally, I just purchased a Nvidia Shield TV earlier today from my local Best Buy. I also have a 65" 900e and I wanted to test some files. So far it has played everything. Mov, Mkv, mt2, mp4, everything. I have my External HD with all the files plugged into the Shield. I downloaded VLC and allowed VLC to see my files. After that I'm able to access my movies, shows, etc.

It is in a folder format also, so I click Movies, and see all the folders or files within that folder. I hope that helps

Also @FoxAdriano I don't know if I'll keep, It ended up being $194 after taxes. I still want an Xbox One X and if the Xbox can handle everything this can, I'd rather my money go to that.

Yes, but doesn’t the YouTube app on your C7P do 4K HDR?

I've got a Shield, and not having Dolby Vision wasn't an issue, because it's the only thing missing from my excellent Marantz 8802A (which may get a firmware upgrade to DV), and I'm still making payments on my $4000 Sony non-DV TV, which isn't getting replaced any time soon (and will never get a DV firmware upgrade). Plus, I only own a handful of UHD Blu-ray discs, because those were all of the titles I was interested in based on current availability. The number of Dolby Vision titles are laughably minute.

I tried infuse on my ATV this past weekend. And MrMC too.
I then tried the Kodi app on the shield. All of them could play content from my Plex server. And MrMC seemed just like Kodi. It seemed like the options menu was almost identical between both of them.
Or am I conusing that with infuse?

I rotated between the the SHield TV, ATV 4k, ROku Streaming Stick+, and the 2017 FireTV when watching streaming content this past weekend.

I really like the SHield but the remote is crap. I'm finding that I like my Roku Streaming Stick+ remote best. It's not too big and not too small. And feels the most comfortable in my hand. And also has a bunch of useful buttons. Instead of minimizing the number of buttons on the ultra small remotes. Like the Shield and ATV have done.

MrMc is a stripped down Kodi port.

Is the Shield Pro model going away?
I ask because I'd want the IR control. But if its going away maybe I should grab one sooner than later.

Does anyone else notice a barely imperceptible stutter sometimes when streaming Netflix or Amazon?

I'm assuming not, or surely there'd be mention of it here somewhere. I've had the device since August and sometimes when streaming there will be the very slightest hiccup at random times through the show. Sound is unaffected. I've asked my wife if she noticed and she couldn't recall; it really is that subtle. But it's there.

Perhaps I just need to reboot the device more often. It's almost like another program is just barely spiking the cpu in the background. Just a missed frame here and there. Anyhow, I've no idea how to troubleshoot it, and some evenings pass without a hitch. Thinking of pinging customer support but can't imagine what they'd suggest.

So just checking here if I've missed a discussion on this, or if this is a one-off.

(I don't think this is a frame rate mis-match because it's not at a regular interval)
