Resolution switching seems to work better for me on MrMC. I would give that a shot if you're having trouble with Kodi. You may need to enable 'expert' settings to adjust it.

In kodi the only option I see is 4k, 1080p and 720p with expert settings on.

If you set Kodi to 1080p and try playing a 4K video, does it switch?

In Kodi, within the Settings, go to "System, then Display, and choose 1920x1080p

.For the Whitelist you may need to add various resolutions and refresh rates such as [email protected], [email protected], etc.

Hopefully, when you get things set up properly, your display should switch to 1920x1080p (you can also adjust the refresh rate as well).
Then your content should play at the proper resolution.

If I have a folder full of demo clips, what is the best app to play them all sequentially?

My wd tv used to do this quite well.

Within the Shield, no. Other players can do it only because they have workarounds that are not endorsed by the BD group. BD menus officially required a license.

I did this, but everything stays 1080p when kodi is set to 1080p.
And when I set kodi to 4k everything is 4k....what am I missing?

There are only two areas where I made adjustments in Kodi.

Within the System Settings, look at the first image to see if anything is differed from yours.

Within the Player settings look at the second image to see if anything is different from yours.

Groove, If I’m not mistaken the white list is in Kodi 18 only.

Good Obvservation, I forgot this feature was not available in earlier versions.

However I was able to get Kodi to perform properly in earlier versions as well. Making the adjustment to the display resolution and, then in the Video/Playback section, adding a slight delay in the refresh rate change so my system would not hang up.

MrMC works without the need of a whitelist. It will also adjust resolution and refresh rate. The adjustments are in the same areas as Kodi.

Make sure you haven't enabled "Sync playback to display", as that overrides some settings and disables audio bitrate passthrough as well.

I'm not sure I know of any app that allows you to "queue" up multiple local files in a row (except maybe Plex? I think that's a feature maybe? But I don't use it so I'm not sure...).

For manual playback I'd think anything like Kodi, MX Player, ES File Browser, etc, would work just fine...

In the Kodi 18 beta, there is a setting that will allow playback of one video after another. Previous versions would only continue playback for TV episodes. It works fine with my DLNA server, either using a playlist or just from the Titles selection. The one issue I have with Kodi (and it applies to MrMC, VLC and every other DLNA player I've tried) is that it ignores the file sort of my playlists, and changes the sort to the default Kodi sort, usually by Title name. Using a Roku or Blu Ray player, they stay in the order in the playlist. Haven't found any setting that disables the sort and just displays them as presented by the DLNA server.

Need some help here. I wanted to do some more general pic calibration and downloaded the files from the avshd 709 thread but I can't get it to play on my plex/shield setup. It plays fine from my plex web and on my Roku from plex. Can anyone else download the files and test a file.
I get - An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app.

Restarting all devices did not help.

I am back looking at this again - Can anyone test the same thing and see if they have the same issue?

I have the MP4 version. I used the self extracting link. I moved the folders to my server under a folder where all the other files work but for some reason these files won't play back.

Add the folder as a media source in Kodi, just like for a movie folder, but select "none" for "this directory contains..." Then, for "play next video automatically" in the player settings, make sure "uncategorized" is selected. All you media sources should be visible in the video widgets.

The switch happens automatically only if both the resolution and refresh rate of the source video are a match in the whitelist. So, since the Shield doesn't support resolutions lower than 720p, SD videos will be displayed at [email protected] or 4K, depending on your output settings. What you can do is to manually change from the OSD controls, after playback has started, to any combo from your whitelist . I have to do that all the time when I play lower resolution videos because I don't like to play at 23.97 refresh rate and all the videos are at 23.97.

Is your plex server on the Shield? I've seen some people on the nvidia forums having issues with it after the last update.

How is your Shield connected to the avr? Which apps? Have you compared them with the same apps on other devices?

Have you tried just playing the files directly using something like ES File Browser and the built-in video player?
