Is this still via SMBv1 only? Or is it possible to use SMBv3 to transfer files to/from a PC now?

ARC is a function between a TV set and the audio device (AVR or soundbar). There's no ARC in the Shield. What is does have is audio out via HDMI. I have no idea how your avrkey functions, but if it takes the HDMI and removes the audio, your TV shouldn't be getting any audio. It sounds like your avrkey is outputting some sort of audio that the TV doesn't recognize.

SMBv3 was implemented with update 7.2.

Enhancements/bug fixes included with Nov 20, 2018 SHIELD Experience release (30.6.129.29)

Enhancements

General
[US Only] Adds Amazon Music. Open your apps drawer to access or add to your favorites
Adds option to automatically download and update SHIELD software (Settings > About > System upgrade > Auto upgrade)
Adds customizable Quick Settings (Settings > System > Customize Quick Settings)
Adds network link speed when connected via ethernet (Settings > Network > Connected) System
Adds option to disable Comfort Noise (Settings > Display & Sound > Advanced Settings)
Adds IR power control for sound bars
USB debug access no longer required to enable network debugging.
Upgraded to Android Kernel 4.9 from 3.1
Adds ability to control TV volume over HDMI-CEC from Alexa
Adds option to disconnect paired Bluetooth audio devices

Storage
Adds SMBv3 support when mounting networked storage (NAS or PC) to SHIELD. (Accessing SHIELD folders on PC over supports SMBv1)
Adds option to sleep USB connected drives when idle (Settings > Storage & reset > Sleep drives when idle)
[SHIELD 2015 and Pro] Adds notification to migrate app data from SD Card to internal storage

It doesn't remove it, it just sends a second audio signal as HDMI 1.4 while passing through the original. The problem is when I play lossless audio to my headphone receiver it the TV sees the HDMI 2.0 signal and keeps putting up the "the format isn't supported" message. Unfortunately there is no way to disable this message on the TV, no matter what I do.

Anyone else having trouble with the Netflix app? It crashes every time I start playing anything now. I haven't tried it yet, but I read over on the Nvidia forums that reverting to 2.0 sound fixes it. Not in any hurry to test this as I'll just use my Roku before doing that.

Thanks for that. I have yet figure out how to view my files on the shield via my PC so I may be missing something.

This line is a bit confusing though:

"Storage

If it's not appropriate to post her, would someone be willing to PM me about adding Netflix to Kodi? I'm not looking for anything free or extra or anything. I sub to the 4k plan and I just want to see how ATMOS sounds through the Shield. I have a blank Kodi app because I've never really set it up before. Thank you.

I have seen no other reports of a problem so does not appear to be systemic.

I had an issue a while back where I was only getting 2.0 on Netflix where nothing fixed it except a factory reset. Once I did the factory reset all was well again.

Can I ask how you get the display to show source-shield, sound-dolby atmos and signal-dolby atmos/digital+? I'm guessing I'm missing something simple.

Thats what the Denon AVR does when you hit the info button.

It's not the display giving this information but the Denon AVR. I know because I have a Denon AVR and I get this information by going into settings and then scrolling down to Video and then Information (page 251 of owners manual).

I now remember why Kodi and I could never be friends. Trying to get rez switching to work is a futile task. Looks like the only way is to check the box that says 'Sync playback to display'. Problem with that is it breaks audio passthrough. So I get Multi PCM and no Atmos or even DD+ (I have a 2016 Samsung Ks8000). Ah well it still looks better out the TV's app anyway.

They do, via CEC. Power, arrow keys, volume.

The issue is that remote functionality will be limited (not configurable). I did find using my Sony TV remote was fairly fast and responsive.

I now use a Harmony remote with hub and its the best thing. I do have it configured to use the Sony's Guide button. This will bring up the Live Channel's guide on the Shield. This is one button that is not available on the Shield, so I had to do it that way.

Did you white list enable all resolutions on the system settings in Kodi?

Can you try changing manually when content is played? Play something, click enter to show the OSD, go to settings and in video options select the video resolution. I'm guessing if you cant do this part then the list of resolutions is not enabled.

I thought I went over everything I could find on Kodi video settings but I dont recall seeing an actual list of supported resolutions. Just a global resolution for Kodi. I'll look into it tonight though. Thank you!

I gave up on CEC years ago and went with a Harmony remote.

I love CEC and never found it to be finicky with a Sony 900E. My Sony TV remote is better than the Harmony hub/remote system I tried with the exception of no 'Home' button function. Unless you have to switch inputs on the TV and AVR for different viewing situations, I see little advantage of Harmony remotes (especially with the lack of an IR receiver on the Shield) over HDMI CEC.

I’ve always used ES File Explorer for remotely accessing my PC from the shield. I think I had to sideload the apk, but it’s a been awhile since I’ve messed with it.

Oh, and rather than purchasing the cloud drives as you mentioned earlier, it may be a better option to buy a wireless router with USB support. Then you can connect your existing drive(s) and share them over your network.
