stop movie in Kodi pressing back bottom

Check addon Keymap editor. You can easily map the back buttom to stop the movie.
I don't have my shield here right now, and I can't post links yet, but basically, you can either:
  • add a xml file in the keymaps folder of your userdata (whatever that means) like
<keymap>
<fullscreenvideo>
<keyboard>
<key id=»61448″>stop</key>
</keyboard>
</fullscreenvideo>
</keymap>
  • or use Keymap editor to map the back buttom (key 61488) to stop the movie (what I did)
If you experience any issues with the instructions, please ask and i'll try to get better instructions once at home

How does one add a file like that to the Shield? I don't see it as a network device that I can connect to via a share, but I suppose that might be something that has to be enabled. I know I can copy files via USB (as I've side loaded apps before), so maybe that's it. I'll research that more, thanks!

adblink makes it easy. I use Harmony Elite so I just remapped the stop button (the square) in the transport controls.

I'm new to this thread and am considering replacing my older Roku with the Shield. I often use my HT sound system to listen to music from my Amazon library and a cable provider music
channel with full understanding that the quality is limited by the source....but it's simple and convenient when "channel flipping" between shows, commercials or when surfing the web or I just want some background music while web surfing from my theater chair.

So as I compare and consider updating my streaming device I'm looking for which device provides the best "out of box" high quality audio signal quality/processing for music from streaming sources without having to open menu's and without having to make technical setting adjustments as I switch back and forth between cable and streaming music sources.

Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and a happy 4th to all.

It might take a little time to get your settings adjusted to your preferences, but once that's done I don't feel there's much that requires adjustment. I switched from a Roku Ultra to the Shield on my 4K TV, and run the audio through a Yamaha AVR. The biggest change moving to the Shield is having support for lossless audio bitstreaming from my movie server. The best you can get from any Roku is standard Dolby Digital or DTS. With the Shield, you can now get Dolby TrueHD with Atmos and DTS Master Audio/DTS:X. You also get support for virtually any media container or codec, so whatever quality is available you can get to your AVR. To my knowledge, you have support for all the high quality audio codecs and bitrates.

If you do have video (movies or TV) stored on something connected to your home network, the Shield can play virtually anything, and if captions are available they all seem to work as well. The most significant issue I see posted here is the lack of Dolby Vision support, followed by YouTube HDR support. Beyond that, it seems to do it all.

Happy 4th to you as well. The Shield will do passthrough audio so however good the source material is, the shield will let you play it. I love the Shield as it is the only device I am aware of that supports 7.1/Atmos passthrough.

harmony 665 wont work with Shield. IR to BT conversion?

I just got a little shock today when I tried to program my IR only Harmony 665 to run the new Nvidia Shield. I now understand that the Shield is Bluetooth. I dont want to spend 250 for a Harmony Elite that will do IR and BT or use my phone for a remote along with the Harmony Hub.
Do I have another option to continue to use the Harmony 665 with some sort of IR to BT converter?
thanks!

I didn't use the file method, sorry. But the keymap editor is quite straight forward. Install the add-on, then go to add-on -> program -> keymap editor
Open it and select 'Edit', then 'Fullscreen Video' and then 'Playback'
On the next window, you can select action to assign a key, go to Stop, 'Edit Key' and press the back buttom on your shield. Then just go back in the menus and select 'Save' on the first one.
I think that should be it.

New User Questions

Hi! I have been using a neotv550 for a long time now. I connect it to my denon avr 3808ci (hdmi 1.3a) receiver, which connects to my sony tv (kds60a3000) (1080p). I have been having trouble lately playing some mkv's, so I plan on trying out an nvidia shield this weekend. Some questions for you guys...

1. Is there any guide to setting up the nvidia shield? Any recommended settings to get bitstreamed audio to work?
2. Is there any guide to setting up kodi to play my mkvs? Any recommended settings to get bitstreamed audio to work?
3. Any issue with using an nvidia shield (hdmi 2.0) with my older hdmi receiver and tv?
4. If I decide it's not for me, is there a way to restore the shield to factory defaults so any information I enter is cleared out?

Thanks!

Heres what Ive done in the short time ive had the shield and so far its great.

To get bitstream or ATMOS etc to work I needed to load an app like VLC or Kodi. I like Kodi. It allows you to set passthrough for all the modern audio if your receiver will decode it.
To play mkv (and thats why I got it) I found the above setup using Kodi works very very well. All the mkv that would not play with my Sony (sucky) x700 Blueray player will now play over Shield using Kodi app and setting the audio bitstream to passthrough and I get ATMOS, TrueHD, any and all.
I would guess if you cannot pass audio on the HDMI then your SOL. Not sure about that as I have the latest AVR

It’s not that complicated. Most of what is included there is background/reference material that explains why things work the way they do.
