Well, to be fair. The resume feature is good for tv series on blu ray. I frequently forget which episode of something i finished...

They could have used a few more beta testers for this price point.
damn...this is troubling for me as well as i am wanting to upgrade to a jvc rs400...

I once watched The Departed all the way to the last scene before I realized that I'd seen it before.

I think I must have been drunk the first time.

Resume is definitely a nice feature to have but the watched flag is not really required and certainly not a deal breaker by any means. He was trolling for sure.

Maybe that is why you think the sub text is not as clear as it should be?

With that said, I feel you. I once boarded the wrong flight (pre-911) after a long layover in Tokyo and too many cocktails, I ended up in Manila when I needed to be in Guam for a Coast Guard demonstration.

My Solo HDMI out is switched by a Yamaha A/V Receiver (Aventage RX-A2000) and goes to
2 display devices:
A Panny 3D Plasma & a Epson 5030UB 3D Projector.

When I play a 3D ISO in Dune, my Panny recognizes the 3D signal and correctly displays it.
Epson however is unable to recognize the 3D signal and instead plays in 2D mode.

I found out later that Epson also can recognize the 3D signal from Dune, if I bypass the
Yamaha receiver and direct connect the Dune HDMI to Epson.
However this is not desirable because I lose the audio by going direct from Dune to Epson.

Has anyone experienced this issue? How do you get around this?

not really a deal breaker , but i do miss a watched indicator , cause im used to have it on the mede8er , for me its a really helpful feature cause i have a lot of series in mkv format.
Maybe you all have great recolection of episodes youve watched , but my memory isnt , at least not only by seeing an episode title

The dune solo , has better picture quality and better audio , and better 3d quality then the med , so the dune has better technical specs , but lacks in features , (my opinion)

Have you set your Yamaha to "through" for video, under settings? Many AVR's have video upscaling or some kind processing enabled by default, and this can mess up EDID metadata ... like the frame-packing info being sent by the source player.

I have an Epson 5025UB and had a similar issue w/my previous AVR, Onkyo NR636 with Raspberry Pi2.

I have rec'd several PMs about what I use and what I build for my clients requiring large arrays.

This is my most common setup for clients with multiple Dunes and I recommend Windows Home Server 2011. (ebay - $ 50.00). Choose your own CPU and memory items. I usually recommend and i3 and 8 gigs for just file server file duties.

I use this exact set up myself with 13 - 5tb drives which yield about 50TB usable space in Raid 6. I have about 14 of these in the field that have been running 24/7 for 15 months now for home users and their Dunes. Very stable and easy to Admin with Home Server 2011 for the End User.

thanks for the above info!

do you use a 2.5" drive for the OS drive with the 3.5" to 2.5" converter? what about using a ssd for the os drive?

does the 3.5" hdd cage secure inside the case or is it just sitting inside the case at the base?

Correct. I use a 250gig Samsung Pro for the OS. In my server it is inside the case with Velcro (I didn't want to give up the bay). For Clients I install in the cage with that adapter. I clone the OS once a month to an image with backup software to a folder on the Raid 6.

Hi, I spent a good bit of time trying to get this work with different workarounds but no luck, the Dune 4K Solo currently will not work in 3D with the JVC projectors. From going back and forth with Mike @ Dune, it sounds like 3D is not really a primary focus for Dune HQ but would look into it.

I've had every JVC model here since 2010 and countless 3D Media player devices + HTPC's + 3D BD players and not 1 ever had an issue playing 3D on these projectors.

BayMax is devastated.. but will offer the player here at a discount if there is no fix in a reasonable time period.

What happens if you use BDlite isntead of full menu can you force it into 3d that way? Also if you are going to sale it hit me up via PM I might be interested in it.

I understand you are running a business out of. So you need a bit cleaner solution but anyone looking for big storage options that dont mind a 4u case. Ebay is a great place to pick up a supermicro sc846 4u server case for very cheap its a 24bay 3.5 . You can even find some in the 300$ range that has everything you need just missing drives. But with it you are running power hungry server grade components. So might be worth it to look at the empty cases just make sure it has the backplane as its a sas expander a single sas card can run 24 drives so something like a cheap m1015 can usually be found for 90$.

You have to approach the whole media storage, playback and cataloging with an order of priority. For me the order is as follows:

  1. Storage and security of media in case of HDD failure.
  2. Navigation of media, cataloging and visual feedback of my media. (Episode Thumbnails and Overview / Description)
  3. Playback devices. There is NO one device that will do it all for best results. I have 3 devices, Dune, Roku & HTPC that access my servers.

For top priority I run two Unraid servers separating the content. Movies & Music Videos on one and TV shows and Documentaries on a second one.
For Navigation I use Zappiti on the Dune and emby (Media Browser) on the HTPC and Roku's Media Player for the Roku.

A few times a week I update the different Video cataloging and Video walls with Meta data to reflect what I have watched this week. If you can't remember what you watched in a week I am afraid you are past the enjoyment of what the entertainment industry presents us with.

As an alternative you may want to do binge watching as that does not require remembering watched TV episodes. Here is one example. I love Suits but will not watch Season 5 until the Bluray discs are released and then I will store the discs on my TV server and binge watch season 5 in a few days. Then I will mark the whole season as watched.

Sometimes you have to listen and try out what people who make a living of this recommend, since they are trying to convince you that it is in your best interest to follow their advise and only after a long time will you acknowledge that their advise actually was the best way forward.

In my Yamaha receiver (Aventage RX-A2000) there's no obvious way to setup video pass-thru.
In the advance menu there's a setting which I think is what this is. (See attached image)

I already have this setting as "Monitor Check SKIP" so there's gotta be something
else. Any Yamaha owners here?

no go on BDlite either. even the SBS or TNB menu trick that works for the Mede8ter doesn't work here either.

I'm going to try and help them get this sorted out first. I'll grab the EDID from a PC hooked up to the JVC and also the Sharp 30K 3D DLP which does work in 3D mode to see if there some obvious difference.

We should start a separate thread where we all brainstorm on backup strategies for our media.
I've never found a solution besides just backing up to external drives and storing the drives at work.

Tried amazon glacier, Buggy as all heck.
With Synology software at least.

Right!, I think you recommended those before.
Only $240 each at B&h, I might just try those out.

So here are some more results with 3D playback. It seems to be very device specific and not related to EDID.

Dune->Samsung 60D6400 : 3D works correctly.
Dune->Yamaha YSP-4300->Samsung 60D6400 :3D works correctly.
Dune->JVC RS46 :3D plays back in 2D, I do not get the "Player and/or display does not support 3D" message.
Dune->HDMI Doctor*->JVC RS46 - 3D also plays back in 2D.

OPPO->JVC RS46 - 3D works correctly.

*Using the EDID of the Samsung 60D6400.

Luckily I don't watch 3D much so I can always use my OPPO or the actual Blu-ray for now.

But with it you are running power hungry server grade components. So might be worth it to look at the empty cases just make sure it has the backplane as its a sas expander a single sas card can run 24 drives so something like a cheap m1015 can usually be found for 90$.
Another option, which I use and have set up for 2 other people is a 4 bay Netgear Ready Nas with 4 Western Digital Red 3TB drives. Extremely easy to set up and runs RAID. Pretty inexpensive as well.

Just another option for the OP to consider.

Samsung 65" KS8000
Denon AVR 6300H
Klipsch 5.1.2
HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP

I've had every JVC model here since 2010 and countless 3D Media player devices + HTPC's + 3D BD players and not 1 ever had an issue playing 3D on these projectors.

BayMax is devastated.. but will offer the player here at a discount if there is no fix in a reasonable time period.
Given the price of the Solo you would think owners of JVC projectors would be in there target market and it would be worth Dune's while to make sure the Solo's advertised features work with it.

Hopefully 3D works properly with my Sim2 projector when all my av gear final arrives end of this week.

Lol... This waiting for my av gear to arrive has been the most traumatic part of relocating to homg kong.

Dune->JVC RS46 :3D plays back in 2D, I do not get the "Player and/or display does not support 3D" message.
Dune->HDMI Doctor*->JVC RS46 - 3D also plays back in 2D.

thank you for the detailed info the JVC RS46, the behavior is identical on my RS46 from 2012 and the RS600 from 2016. I also couldn't get it working with various settings on the HDFury.

@Apgood - I have number of JVC owner's PM'ing me to keep them updated if this gets resolved.
