If there's simply a box to uncheck, would rather that than having to uninstall ESFileExplorer. Need it to sideload apps.

I've been fortunate in having no problems over WiFi with any of the apps including VLC, Kodi etc but then I have an AP near this unit. I also plugged in a ASIX based USB Ethernet Adapter I own (as have others in this thread) and it was recognized and set up instantly so that is a possibility to consider.

Does anyone else have bad wifi signal with theirs, like low penetratration? I have my Nexus player beside my mibox didn't want to remove it yet Incase I don't like the mibox and found that I would get horrible buffering and low speed with the mi box meanwhile the Nexus player goes no issues.

The boxes are behind the TV in the fireplace nook.

If you live in Europe, geekbuying just posted a $8 coupon for the Mi Box 4K: WBRTRQJZ. It's shipped from Spain.

Forgive me , i was not clear maybe.
I was only refering to MI Box (other video players was actually meant as other video apps )

So does Mi Box support 4K on Netflix and Amazon TV?
Is HD Audio suported through KODI or other video playback apps ?

I would be highly against buying this MiBox again. It is a unfinished product, with issues, and no updates that would fix them.

What a waste of 140CAD dollars what I paid for it.

Ive not had any issues with it but maybe I am not using it for what you are. I was watching Netflix last night. not an issue.

again...that means nothing to some if they are using it totally different and it doesnt work.

Actually it has exctly the same interface with the Nvidia Shield.
Remote functions the same way as well.

If it is working properly, it should be good.

when you say it wont work for many on Netflix is that @4K?

Im not running it at 4K..but @ 1080p it looks great and works great.

I have had also 2 other different branded boxes that were just boxes with android loaded and some other apps. They crashed a lot and didnt play right ever. I sent them all back.

I have had no issues with this one since the start. I am using SPMC but I also use Kodi to test builds.

It may have been released with issues, just like they all seem to be, but it does have its postives and it was only $75 after tax.

You could have spent much more and had the same results.

was the SHIELD perfect from day one?

Ive read some posts on it. read that some had issues that were fixed when updated. Mine has never had an issue. and it ran circles around the other 2 boxes I had.

I have another box coming and I am not sure its going to be better although hardware wise its 2x the box that the MiBox is.

but i have been happy with the performance so far with mine.

Do you have some kind of hard numbers on the amount of malfunctioning units ? I mean better than saying "all over the forum" I have been on the forum also

Bud, it is a known issue. XIAOMI forum is full of it, reddit is full of it, its not an isolated case, members here were writing about if you go few pages back.
Xiaomi admited to me that they know about the issue. I literally called them.

My experiences (generically), not specific tot he Mi box, have always been that streaming services like Netflix (perhaps the poster child) have unparalleled advanced server capabilities, and can do a great job in accomodating whatever WiFi connection somebody has and optimize the stream appropriately. They do this by owning some pretty advanced server hardware and using pretty modern file compression techniques...

Live TV, on the other hand, uses MPEG2, which is a pretty old (and inefficient) form of file compression. My primary interest in a Mi box, from the very beginning, was a hope that it would be a lower-cost (relative to a Shield) alternative to my Nexus Player for streaming Live TV + DVR to "less important TVs" in my home (I have 4 Shields on the 4 most critical sets). The lack of ethernet connection concerned me initially... and based on the feedback I see on here, I don't think it's going to serve my purposes any better than my Nexus Player already does (which is poor enough that I'd be willing to spend money on an upgrade, and the Mi box could have been that "upgrade", if it was...).

I wish they had opted for a hard-wired ethernet port option...

Pretty sure Amazon Prime is a SHIELD exclusive when it comes to AndroidTV.

I suppose that depends on how deeply embedded it is...and if there's any reliance on Tegra-specific functions. But it's not a seperate app.

I have a MiBox but since I bought a newer box on impulse I am going to run it and see if the hardware upgrades are worth it..

my question is since this MiBOX is a AndroidTV box and I had to get up in google when I got it will I need to do something to it before I give it to my brother?

I dont want him in my google or my emails.

I ask this because on the Amazon devices you must deregister it from under your name if you transfer ownership otherwise they have account access in your name.

what do I do about this google MiBox or is it tied to me like an amazon fire stick?

just go into settings, and do a factory reset, that will delete all your information from the box, and bring it back to factory condition.
