So where does that leave us who have spent money on HDR10 programming with Amazon with the intention of viewing it via Roku?
Man this BS with who here what version of the an app. is really annoying. I have the Sony UBP-X800 and it finally updated to allow HDR from Amazon. Still no 4k HDR from Vudu though. I can't stand this stuff. I just bought the Roku Ultra but haven't used it yet. You're telling me you no longer get HDR from Amazon? Man this stuff is annoying.

I was having the same issue with my 2016 Ultra for some time. I could only get a temporary fix by switching display settings. Replaced the Ultra with a Stick+ and have stopped having the issue.

Agree totally.

For what it is worth VUDU HDR10 and their version of Atmos over Roku HDR10 devices is great IMO.

Awesome that is a big reason why I bought the Roku Ultra but now I lose HDR from Amazon. I'll have to switch to the x800 for HDR from Amazon. Does the Roku Ultra have HDR from YouTube I hope?

In the unenviable position of having to spend more money to get another streaming device, which can then have the HDR capability removed from it, leading to the purchase of another device, etc. Do I detect a pattern here?

There's also the possibility that Amazon/Netflix/Vudu/Hulu etc, will significantly raise the price of HDR programming, as I mentioned in a previous post.

Doesn't this all sound like the reason we cut the cord in the first place?

Yes Roku Premier, and I assume the Ultra, has YouTube HDR. It is one of the few streamers that has it. Even Apple TV 4K YouTube does not do HDR (just 4K). This is some kind of dispute between Apple and Google, not a technical issue. The Sony x700 also does YouTube HDR.

Thanks, appreciate the info. I hate that certain streaming apps are withholding the 4k HDR version of the app. It's really getting annoying.

Yes that is why I have 4 streaming devices. The A8F, Roku, ATV, and X700. None of them is perfect. X700 is close but no screen saver and DV requires extra button presses, and it lacks app variety (although it has my favorites). Also the whole streaming environment gets more complicated when you want Dolby Vision. No DV on Roku.

Yes on HDR10. Roku does not support Dolby Vision or HDR10+. Does not support HLG.

And there is some YouTube HDR content that looks incredible. Really makes the image pop, and even justifies 4K on smaller screens.

Actually there might be HLG support. Some devices in the UK are testing HLG on a BBC channel. Not certain if it's in all versions of the firmware, and of course the app/channel has to support it as well.

@BreakPoint : what's the A8F? not familiar with that one, unless it has a different name.

That is the streaming apps you get with the Sony A8F OLED TV. You get many of the standard apps, Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, YouTube, etc. Sorry I should have described it better.

It's OK I realized you were talking about the OLED from Sony when I plugged in A8F. I got confused because I thought there was an external streaming box also labeled as such.
Anyway no worries.

Hey guys, I forgot to post this last night or earlier today.

I wanted to give everyone here the sequence to get to the screen with the options that include options to turn off, or change the LED brightness on the front.
Keep in mind I don't think the LED setting is carried past reboots, but a handy setting to have.

The Sequence is as follows:
Home 5X
FF Play REW Play FF.

Has other settings to change as well.

Enjoy!

I've also seen stories about Netflix in Europe creating a new high-end pricing tier, which would be the only one offering HDR. They would also increase the price of lower tiers while further limiting the number of screens. Netflix users have been sharing user ids for quite a while, maybe Netflix wants to do something about it.
I wish Netflix would offer a one or two screen option for UHD with a lower price.

I wonder if netflix will change things in the US too? And add a higher tier for HDR content?

I know the BBC I-Player does support it. It would be great if a Roku HDR player did too and I think it should. I would need to get an HD Fury to prove the point one way or the other on my TV.

Glad I helped a little. I Smartcasted A Very English Scandal this weekend on my Vizio P65-C1 and it was HDR10. Just checked again on Smartcast this evening and the same Prime video is still HDR10 for me.

You guys want another good one. Netflix is thinking about adding a more expensive tier for HDR access. Paying extra for HDR. Now that is complete and total BS.

Still a little early to tell, but everything is getting more expensive content wise. You get what you pay for...

Has anyone experienced audio dropouts with the newest Ultra firmware (8.1.0)? My Ultra updated itself on Friday morning and I’ve been having issues ever since.

It occurs several times per minute on all apps. Never experienced a single issue prior.

Yes... had to manually set the audio to Dolby D/DTS and it stopped.. but that means that DD+ will not work...

At least 2 others were reporting audio dropouts since OS 8.1 update.

I've listened in on wireless headphones connected via optical port from TV while watching Roku Ultra on Amazon Prime (non HDR Showtime episodes) for 2 hours tonight and haven't heard dropouts.

Not any different than the episode I watched earlier on ATV4K earlier today. Picture and video were same to me. And I'm one of the ones that would frequently complain of random audio glitches when listening in on headphones.

The Roku OS 8.1 update still appears an improvement to me. Sorry if it's worse for others. I've felt that way in the past but hoped updates would be improved across the user base.

I don't care about how many screens since I live alone. For the first time I got a notice from Comcast that I had reached 80% of my 1024GB limit for the month. I ended up with 870GB for the month of June and I'm the only one streaming. How are you others staying within the limit when you have several family members streaming at the same time?

There are two of us in our household -- my wife and myself. We have never gone over 300GB in a month, and probably average around 250GB a month. You must be streaming almost all day, every day.
