Roku is great for locating content (free & pay) on the major streaming services via Search. Wondering who has Deutschland 83? Roku says its free on Hulu or you can buy episodes on Amazon or Google Play. If it is not on Amazon or is a Dolby Vision program, I'll then switch to AppleTV.
I like the "Search
" function, but I am kind-of annoyed that the "Follow
" functionality deliberately omits the free/subscription instances. For example, "Follow
"-ing a movie gets updates on rental and "buy" options, but unlike the "Search
" results, does not show when that movie becomes available on Netflix (I think Amazon Prime, and other channels too).
I don't remember which movie that I noticed it on, but I am pretty sure it was one of the Marvel and Star Wars movies that came out this year. After I confirmed the phenomenon a time or two, I just no longer bother to check.
I don't think it was always this way, I am pretty sure the "Follow
" function did alert me to when at least one movie I was watching appeared on Netflix. I understand the pressures that drive that decision to change, but (unless I missed it) not stating up front that "Follow" only includes rent/buy options still reflects poorly in my mind.
