That may have changed with the new OS update and new Amazon App update. Things appear to be working so far on the 5.1 audio shows I've tested today.

Yeah, their brand of forum software is really bad about stopping spam. And it seems to have been identified as particularly open to the spammers. The chinese have really hit it bad since this past weekend.

I am just checking in to see if anyone else has gotten the OS 9 upgrade yet. Haven't seen any new posts about it yet, and so far, still only 1 device here has it. Good news though is it's still working very solidly. Haven't had any issues / complaints to date.

Strange, that's the model I got the update on here, my 2016 units have not been updated as of yet. Surprised your 2017 hasn't seen the update yet.

Roku really must be taking their time. I seem to be the only one here who still has it (on this particular thread.)

Its not the forum software’s fault. It is ROKU’s. They don’t staff the thing so it has real time monitoring by people. Cheap.....

I don't think it was always this way, I am pretty sure the "Follow" function did alert me to when at least one movie I was watching appeared on Netflix. I understand the pressures that drive that decision to change, but (unless I missed it) not stating up front that "Follow" only includes rent/buy options still reflects poorly in my mind.

I don't agree. The software they use is obviously far too easy for a bot to create user accounts and post all that garbage. I'm a moderator on another forum, and we see posts like that once or twice a month. Other forum users have brought to Roku's attention add-ons for their forum software to block those kinds of abuse, but Roku doesn't seem to care. In that, I agree it's Roku's fault in the end. But they can't pay staff to monitor the forums 24/7. Those Chinese bots we posting dozens of messages in a matter of minutes. That's what needs to be blocked.

Well they sure need to do something. That was the worst I've ever seen it.

Maybe I misread the post but it was stated by someone on roku forum who just bought a 2018 Roku ultra that it only passes PCM audio and no longer supports 5.1.This would seem to me to be a major setback for anyone who uses a Roku in home theater. Anyone else heard about this?

That doesn't even sound right. That would go against what all previous rokus do. Like other Rokus it should pass through the DD+ audio. Or also have an option to output it in 2.0 pcm.

it sounds like that person had something wrong, or it was connected directly to a TV/device that doesn't handle DD+. And since the new Ultra can't transcode DD+ to DD(like the 2016 Ultra could), it would need to send 2.0 pcm.

I believe what you read was that the 2016 version of the Ultra is the only Roku player capable of converting DD+ to standard DD. It's the only one with a built in decoder. But all Roku players support 5.1 over HDMI to a supporting AVR or soundbar.

They could have also changed the output to stereo PCM only instead of auto, without realizing it.
