This latest update has semi-bricked my 2016 Roku Ultra. It's only displaying at 1080p, auto resolution is not working, but even worse, it cannot find any sync at all about half the time, so just a black screen. Absolutely zero problems with 4K prior to this update.

Sorry about that. I would suggest unplugging the Ultra to get a clean restart, followed by turning Off Native Refresh Rate and setting Subsampling to 4:2:0. Also turn off any Screen Savers.

After all that unplug the Ultra and restart. Then check for any Updates again. A little drastic but with a semi-bricked Roku, probably your best option.

P.S. Native Frame rate is an overrated headache with many TVs. Good luck.

I'm going to give all of this a try. Thanks for the note!

Thanks for this again. Made these changes and am now getting picture at least, but the Roku is forcing 1080P no matter what the display settings are, so I think I just need to wait until the requisite bug fix from Roku... BTW, agreed on your comment re. native frame rate. Nothing but a headache at this point...cheers.

Almost all of my cable channels are DD 5.1 with exceptions of Comedy Central is DD 2.0 and CNN is DD EX. There are a few DD 2.0 scattered around also.
Fury was a great example it seems to be working. Thanks!

I checked my 4660 tonight, and she was giving me 4K HDR.
So she hasn't regressed back to Auto or 1080. I have a Micro SD card in the 4660. I have the latest update, 9.2.0.
My 4660 is plugged into an outlet that is unswitched.

Thanks to you. While checking Fury I noticed it wasn't 24fps. I had to fix that. I choose Fury since it's recent, small name, and does a good job making the sub-woofer work. It does look & sound better on Blu-ray and DTS-MA.

At a loss as to why my Roku Ultra is only streaming 1080P when watching Netflix. I have the 4K supbscription, using input #3 .

-TV is XBR65X750D
-iTunes library comes through in 4K
-Apple TV+ content is in 4K
- HDMI cable is an Audioquest 18GPS

What am I doing wrong?

Even the internal Netflix app can stream 4K

Thanks

There have been some reports of Ultra devices showing they are set on 4K/60, but in actuality are only outputing 1080. The workaround is to manually select 4K/60, instead of leaving the display setting on auto. However, the Ultra reverts to auto by itself (it appears to happen overnight) so it has to be set again. If it's only sending 1080 out, that could be your Netflix issue.

You say AppleTV+ is 4K, is that on your Roku? Make sure you have the HDMI Port 3 on your Sony set to "Enhanced" if your set can accept HDR content. Also log on to Netflix via PC and check your video settings.

Having horrible audio synch issues recently. Wasn't like this when I first used the Roku, so I am thinking it may be related to an update. Apps are inconsistent with Netflix seemingly fine, Hulu just a tad off and Amazon Prime unwatchable. I've had to change the delay on my receiver to improve but even then it is slightly off. Very disappointing.

This is 100% a Roku issue, same thing is happening to me. The *only* difference between properly functioning Roku Ultra and broken Roku Ultra in my setup: the latest Roku firmware.

I'm glad you are getting 4K but are you getting HDR?
1. Make sure you have the HDMI Port 3 on your Sony set to "Enhanced".

2. Also log on to Netflix via PC and check your video settings are best quality.

FoxSports Updated Their Roku App to 3.21

FoxSports updated the Roku app to 3.21 - no word (changelog or otherwise) on whether this includes any HDR (HLG or HDR10) enabling functionality.

Other platforms (ATV4K/FireTV) may have been updated as well.

As before, we'll just have to wait and see with tomorrow night's game.

For what it’s worth, my Ultra hasn’t switched back to auto since I forced it to 4K HDR. I don’t use a screensaver or go into sleep mode, so that might have something to do with it.

It’s worth checking if it’s actually outputting 4K. Mine says it’s doing 4K 60 but the tv is only receiving 1080p.

Hey all, not sure if this has been asked before, but I have a Roku Ultra (hooked up to my AVR via HDMI), and I noticed the sound is much louder than any of my other devices. I normally watch TV/movies at around -20 to -17 on the volume, but the Roku's output seems about 10 dB louder. I can just decrease the source input level to stay consistent with other devices, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed this?

Yeah every time I turn the TV on, I hit the display button on my Harmony (Sony TV) to confirm the TV is showing 3840 x 2160. So far it has continued to stay on 4K. PITA to have to babysit it constantly.

I also confirm in the settings that it hasn’t moved back to the auto setting. So far it hasn’t.

What are your other devices? The only thing I notice in my setup is that my ATV4K is generally lower than anything else. Roku and TiVo generally at the same levels.

Is it stupid of me to look at the APPLE 4k TV device? This is the 2nd time I have issues with my ultra after a firmware update. First time it was almost 3 months till I had HDR functioning again. Now I am having the problems described above. I wonder if the apple device is better with firmware updates. I'm aware that there are a ton of TV and AVR combos out there but come on. My TV and AVR just turned a year old so it's not like I am trying to incorporate super outdated hardware.

Not stupid at all. Consider having both Roku and Apple TV connected to your TV. This is our setup. One of them will always work! Plus, with kids, failure is not an option. Parents know what I'm saying.

NBD, I appreciate your feedback. Roku needs to address this, I wonder how many people out there have these issues. I might do a factory reset and see what happens.

My TV and AVR just turned a year old so it's not like I am trying to incorporate super outdated hardware.
I like the Apple TV due to it's choices of movies and deals that are offered through iTunes. Plus the upgrade from HD to 4K is pretty remarkable.

Note - now with the Apple TV app being available on Roku, you can get all those benefits without needing an actual Apple TV.
