Is anyone having trouble with the NASA/NASA UHD channels? NASA just shows a black screen whereas NASA UHD opens to a splash screen and then crashes back to the UI. My 4670 is on the latest official firmware...

That started when I downloaded 9.3.0 and/or updated my apps on the same day. Using 4660 Ultra.

Then they make it worse by "hiding" UHD/4K versions of their shows! While they have been a leader in UHD content/quality, they have lagged severely in delivering a quality UI.

Its an app loading issue with 9.3 affecting many apps, though many have already been fixed with compatibility layer updates. Roku has been informed several times about the NASA UHD app, but still hasnt issued an update or worked with the app provider for an updated app.

Don't be so hard on Amazon - it only took them 3+ years to deliver an app update to enable/fix subtitle formatting control on Roku, though video streaming quality indication still remains elusive... (though not on their own competing platform of course, where neither have ever been an issue...)

My internal Amazon Prime app on my Sony A8H selects the correct resolution. I've been unable to find any series or movies in DV on Amazon. I've had such good luck using the internal apps I've stopped using the Roku Ultra. When they stop updating the internal apps, or I encounter problems, I'll go back to the RU or buy the new Apple 4K when they release it.

I use this link to find 4K movies on Amazon.

Jack Ryan Season 1 Ep1 plays in DolbyVision HDR on my Sony 900F's internal Amazon App. I watched the series many moons ago on my ATV4K on another DV equipped TV.

Good catch. I looked at S2, which was in HDR, but didn't look at S1, and all of S1 is in DV.

Yes, for sure an older Shield I bought before my Ultra did. Gave up on it. I read this was fixed but have not tested a new one. Happy with the Ultra.

I had an Apple TV update waiting for me, and when I finished, my Roku Apple TV app is now Dolby Atmos-enabled! Tried it on a few movies and the uppers are definitely kicking in now. Sounds great!

Using the Roku Ultra to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime, my Denon X4400H automatically selects Dolby Surround for everything. When I use the internal apps on my Sony A8H it will select exactly what is being sent, but never Dolby Surround. Is the Roku limited in this regard?

Well, Netflix and Prime both use Dolby Digital Plus as the audio codec. It appears your Denon supports that codec. How is your Roku connected? Is it connected to the Denon, or directly to the TV?

OK. I'm not familiar with Denon AVRs, but is some sort of audio processing being applied to that HDMI input? On my Yamaha AVRs, I have to ensure they are on direct or straight, so the AVR does't apply any internal processing.

In Settings, Audio, Audio Mode: is your mode set to Auto (DTHD, DD+, DTS)?

I don't believe so, but I'll check tomorrow. It should be setup like my Oppo which passes whatever is being sent.

Yes. So it looks like I'm getting what I'm supposed to, but the Denon display doesn't light up like it does with the internal apps.

RMP works fine for HDR/4K. I don't have mine connected to an Atmos enabled AVR, so can't verify that. However, unless your Atmos tracks are Dolby Digital+, I doubt you will get Atmos. Roku OS 9.3 now list DTHD as a supported audio, but there has been zero comment about what that actually means. When I tested some movies with TrueHD tracks, my Ultra 4640 either outputted DD+ or no audio at all. Since the 4640 has a DD encoder, I can't say exactly what was really happening. EIA-608 captions in TS or MP4 containers display fine. SRT captions are also good.

The new UI is only so-so, but Roku promises to improve it. For some reason they had an internal deadline to release a new version, so they concentrated on playback issues for this release. When they released 5.0, it was filled with playback issues, which is why it was pulled back again. Those issues appear to be all better. There are still some playback issues, but mostly it's control (no FF or resume for audio), not playback itself.

Spotify connection issues

Wondering if anyone might have some suggestions to solve this (these) problems with Spotify/Roku.
I loaded the Spotify app on both my Roku Ultra and my ipad. I wanted to listen to the stream on my AVR. Sometimes the Spotify app on the ipad will list the Roku under the Device list, other times it might be absent from the list. Even if it is there, 50% chance it works-sometimes just shows "connecting to Roku", other times even showing a connection, no audio heard. The strange thing is, I have Roku streaming sticks on other tv's, and they always show up on the device list (but I never listen through those tv's). I have tried the few recommendations that Spotify gave me, but to no avail. My internet is 1Gig fiber-no issue streaming video on the Roku or getting Pandora through my AVR (internal app) at the times that I can't get Spotify to work-seems an issue between the Ultra and Spotify.
Anyone else come across this?
Thanks

Hi all!

I have a legacy system with a projector and older AVR where I need a streaming device that has a digital audio or optical audio output in addition to the HDMI which I'll use for video only. I just cut the cord and the player would also need to be able to run HBO Max and YouTube TV in addition to Netflix, Prime Video and some of the more common apps. Is there a Roku that has all these features? It looks like the current models do not. Other brand? Thanks!

It won't show up until Roku and AT&T sign a deal, and no one knows when that will happen.

Yeah. AT&T might consider the HBO Go's deprecation as a target to get deals done. However, they just don't seem to care so far, but who knows what motivates them?
