Thanks for trying. My Nvidia Shield will play Atmos and HDR with no problem but it has no 4k Amazon Video. I was hoping the Roku would finally be the device that does it all.

I get HDR from both my the Samsung and Phillips UHD players thru the same AVR. On discs I get also 4k 24Hz thru the AVR . I am think it's so sort of interaction between the Roku and AVR. I have chroma upsampling on in the Vizio so that is not the problem.

My shipment arrived from Best Buy today and I set it up. Coming from a Roku 3 , this is definitely much faster on the menus and setup. Using a FiOS AC router with 50/50 speed. Still only using a 1080P TV, so can't comment on the 4K / HDR capabilities. Sorry!

Does anyone know when Logitech will add the Ultra to their Harmony Software? I searched on MyHarmony and it's not listed yet.

The Roku remote has very few keys, you just need 5 minutes to learn the commands.

I was so happy without HDR...

Thanks, I'll keep playing with my settings and rebooting the Ultra. I got one Roku software update upon install (7.2.2) all I get on Amazon is UHD but Netflix is HDR.

Quick set-up with an LG E6. Able to get HDR on Netflix but having issue with Amazon. Content will start and HDR tag pops up, but there is no video, only audio. Then I get a pink screen followed by some flashing. I tried turning the Deep Color setting off, but you can't get HDR without it on.

Edit..did some more testing...

I found that Netflix is only outputting 1080p HDR, not 4K. The tags in the info confirm this, only stating HD instead of Ultra HD like they do on the LG App.

Amazon outputs 4K, but anything with HDR will not play on my set.

That's odd because on my Samsung tv both are 4K hdr. What info tags are you referring to though? What your tv says it is getting or somewhere else?

I just put in Roku 4 and it works just fine. Will update someday if needed. FYI

Since there are no streaming services that offer lossless audio, there is no need to offer it.

Enjoy your new Rokus while those of us who pre-ordered through Roku are still waiting on shipment notifications. I assumed (wrongfully so) that pre-orders would receive priority and would be shipped at about the time units were sent to stores. Apparently, once Roku got our money, the pre-orders became low priority.

It sounds like it's chaos on release once again, which is not surprising considering during ALL beta tests we have done with Roku models they pretty much ignore what we report.

I'm glad I canceled my preorder and will happily wait, my TV and Xbox One S apparently do everything this does short of Atmos but I'm just going to end up waiting until everything is fixed and decide then.

Amazon appeared to work correctly for me with HDR. I'm direct to TV (E6). Update TV to latest firmware and check your cable. Initially I was having trouble using my older HDMI cable (white flashes, followed by invalid format message). I switch to a current HDMI cable and all is well.

What app is acting as the source in that screenshot - Netflix or Amazon? I'm still trying to determine if anyone here has managed to get 4K HDR @ 24hz from Netflix with the Ultra.

Does the Nvidia Shield play Netflix at 4K HDR @24hz? Also I have both Amazon and Netflix, but never seem to watch anything on Amazon. What content is exclusive/unique to Amazon that makes it worth having?

I posted a bit ago about the content on amazon in hdr. They have original series and some movies available in hdr.

Fwiw: everything comes out of the roku ultra at 60hz for me including amazon and Netflix. What happens with certain displays after that I don't know but my avr and my tv both report a 4K 60hz signal being played. The above shot you asked about is from man in the high castle off amazon. Notice though that it is not in hdr, it's only getting an 8bit signal while I get a 10bit signal. I think the projector used isn't playing well with what the roku is outputting. Those of us on TVs are able to get hdr from amazon.

Hmmm. I go through an Onkyo RZ1100 then to the Epson. Something is happening somewhere in the chain for me not to get 10 bit color. Will have to play with it later.

Yeah I mean technically the projector should play the hdr signal. It does have options in the menus for that and is advertised as supporting hdr. I just wonder if that is only at 24hz or something like that.

Does anyone know how to show the expanded Netflix information while a show is playing? There is supposed to be a way to bring up the resolution and bandwidth information in the top left corner. I can't figure out how to do this with the roku ultra. This info may help us figure out what is being output from the app.

You may want to check your Netflix settings to make sure it allows 4k!

Good call. When I first got a 4K tv I had to subscribe to the higher tier in order to get access to the 4K content.

Barring that what I would recommend is going to the menu in Netflix where you can do a search and go to settings. Once you are in settings select exit Netflix. This will log you out and shut the app down completely. Then when you open it again it will load fresh. I had to do this sometimes on my philips bep7501 Netflix app because Netflix doesn't always do a proper edid check and would flag my tv as not being hdr compatible. Refreshing the app this way would do a new check and I could get hdr.

That's true cause you do have to pay for the higher tier Netflix!

Update:

Amazon 4K UHD HDR works correctly. Just reseated both ends of the HDMI cable and all is well.

Netflix is definitely 1080p HDR still. Here are some screen shots showing the difference between the Roku App and the LG App. And I am on the top tier for receiving 4K content. It plays HDR just fine, but not in 4K. Please excuse the shoddy cell phone pics...

Looks like this was noticed earlier in the thread. Did an experiment with HDR turned off on the Roku, and Netflix will play 4K just fine.

Edit..did some more testing...

I found that Netflix is only outputting 1080p HDR, not 4K. The tags in the info confirm this, only stating HD instead of Ultra HD like they do on the LG App.

Amazon outputs 4K, but anything with HDR will not play on my set.
Same with my Vizio P65, no Amazon HDR just UHD. Netflix has to "ramp up" speed to 4K resolution but I'm getting HDR on Netflix.

I did a bunch of troubleshooting today and I found the problem with my Roku Ultra to JVC RS500 projector. The Roku will not consistently pass higher than 1080P over a 3ft Monoprice Redmere cable (I had 2 cables, both less than 2 months old to try). Once I put the plain 4' HDMI cable that came with my Philips UHD player from Roku to projector or Roku to Yamaha receiver to 25' Cabernet HDMI monoprice cable to projector, 4K HDR works without a hitch. Very happy now.

I had to ditch all my redmeres and go back to blue jeans cable when I started this UHD clusterscrew back in March.
