Some displays have an information display to show what is being received, and some (like Samsung) will switch some video settings like Backlight to 100, which is easy to check in the menu. But there seems to be as many ways to check as there are displays.

You have the general idea; but it's backlight to "20" and contrast to "100".

Yeah, I was thinking backlight and contrast to 100%. Forgot the scale only went to 20!

Anyone know what channel you need your router on for the Roku to pick up 5ghz. I used a wifi scan program and my 5ghz band reports back at Channel 100.

Ok, figured out my problem with Amazon Video. I had disconnected my projector HDMI cable and blindly put it back into an HDMI port. But my Epson 5040 has only one HDMI port capable of HDCP 2.2. When I did this, my Amazon came through as shown in 'Roku_Amazon'. So I have HDR on Amazon! Yay.

As far as Netflix goes (where I had to pay an upgrade to my plan), I hadn't realized that I was not getting HDR (see 'Roku_Netflix_4K') and of course the Roku wasn't complaining about HDCP. Now that I'm connected to the HDCP port of the Epson the Netflix limitation shows up. I tried 'resetting' Netflix, rebooting Roku, unplugging the AVR and the projector and nothing worked.

I decided to try and play Netflix from my 4K Samsung bluray player and had some success. My color depth is 4:4:4 (but my refresh rate drops to 24Hz of course) however it still isn't playing BT.2020 HDR but only BT.709 SDR.

Finally, no matter whether I play Amazon or Netflix 4K HD or just HD video, my projector always says 3840 x 2160, which is because I assume it interpolates the HD to 4K display. I don't see any way to tell whether I am getting 4K from my projector info display.

Any suggestions on any of the above?

Thanks.

I dont have the Epson so I cant comment on that. As far as the HDCP error I got - it is intermittent during some Amazon Prime content, not necessarily 4K or HDR. I do have the Roku connected to my JS9500 at HDMI 4 which is HDMI 2.2 so i dont think i have the incorrect port problem either. Strangely the HDCP error comes and clears itself almost instantly so i am not even able to capture the pic like you did. But its annoying its still happening.

Are you trying to connect at 5GHz or trying to get the WiFi-Direct remote off your 2.4GHz channels?

When the Roku 3 came out with the WiFi-Direct remote, there was a bunch of discussion about there being only one radio per band so the remote was essentially [jamming] whatever WiFi channel you were connected to, because it wasn't de-conflicting with the routers. So, while I use wired Ethernet for the connection, I started to connect the Roku 3 to my (generally unused) 5GHz just to get the remote up on that band and away from my 2.4GHz network. That usually lasted until the next re-boot or power-cycle. It wasn't the problem for me that some folks made it out to be, so I fell out of the habit.

So since I got the Ultra, I hoped it would pick a random channel if I never connected to my wireless networks - so I haven't. When I pulled up Wifi Analyzer on the phone just now, it indicates my router is on 5GHz channel 161 (5805 MHz) and the Roku WiFi-Direct Remote is apparently running on 5GHz channel 36 (5180MHz).

Im just doing a scan in the roku menu, and it only finds my 2.4 ghz radio on the cable internet router. I read an old post elsewhere and they said the Roku box would only pick up 5ghz on certain channels which seems asinine. I mean my xbox s finds it ok, the ATV finds it, my display finds it, my tivo finds it and our phones find it lol. Neither my Roku 3 or Ultra found it.

To make matters worse, I did a network reset to see if that would help, and I think it trashed something. The Roku finds ZERO wifi networks when it scans now, when it should find about 10. Every few restarts it finds one random linksys modem of my neighbor. I even tried a factory reset, no joy.

Just force it to use the channel you want. This is what i do whenever my ROku Ultra reboots. Otherwise like yours, it shows up on channel 36. WHich causes me interference with some devices. So like the last couple generations of ROku WiFi Direct remotes, I force them to use channel 165.

Just set up an SSID on channel 165(or whatever channel you want). Have the ROku connect wirelessly to that SSID. Then the remote will be using that channel. Then I switch the ROku back to the wired connection. And it will continue using that channel for WiFi Direct until it reboots.

Of course if you use the wireless connection with the Roku, the WiFi Direct remote will also be using the same channel.

My Roku Ultra sees all wireless N channels on the 5Ghz spectrum. Which in the US are.

I don't use wireless AC so I can't comment on those.

And I know it also sees 1, 6, and 11 on 2.4Ghz

Err, that seems to be repeating the same thing I said, so I am a little confused. I don't have anything else on channel 36, so I am happy for it to default there. I used to try to force the Roku 3 WiFi-Direct remote off my 2.4GHz network because it would use the same channel even though I had a wired connection. But I am not sure it caused the interference for me that others were so upset about.

Of course, I don't know how this will work out with the new modem Comcast sent today to "upgrade" the Ubee modem I've had for a while. The DPC3941T XB3 device they sent is a comparatively huge monolith, I guess it has the VOIP, router, and 4 port switch all rolled into the modem now. Not sure how I feel about that, just seems like I am handing the keys to the network over. Maybe I can disable all that other stuff.

I got the roku working again, but neither will find my 5ghz radio where every other device does. And for some reason I cant change the channel on it right now, mediacom's service is acting up. No big deal, the 2.4ghz radio is still good for 70-80 down, just odd. At least the Ultra started working again...

Amazon yes. YouTube is 4K without HDR for now. Maybe in the future if the Roku supports the proper codec. YouTube HDR is available only on the Chromecast Ultra for now and some Samsung 2016 4K sets soon. Google just started officially releasing 4K UHD movies but without HDR to select devices.

Thank you very much. I just wish I could buy one device that would support everything...I suppose they are doing this on purpose. Thanks again.

I have had the Roku Ultra for 5 days (have a Roku 2 XD since December 2012) and I rather like it. I was happy that I could connect it to my sound bar via Optical, vs. the Aux out. It seems to me there are more channels, but I could be wrong. I suppose the box is the size of the original Roku boxes, a little larger than I would have card for.

The remote is heavy, and shall we say "fuller figured" than the XD one. I do love the find remote feature. I have yet to try the headphones, no need at this time.

Went ahead and got the Directv Now service, just streaming through the Chromecast for the time being, because that $35 for 100+ (109 to be exact). I pre-paid a month (with the 7 free days added to it, as it worked out) to get the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote for free, for the heck of it, lol. I cannot wait for it to be available for the Roku.

I was a little evil and created a new account on Roku, to get the two free months of Hulu (which had double billed TWICE me a couple of years ago and would not fix the issue) since I am unwilling to pay them any more money until I get back what they took. Two free months will even the score. Eh, petty, I know. But dammit!

Just my two cents worth, of course.

Figured out my modem issues, with it being stuck on channel 100 and the Roku's not seeing. Did a full reset, and when the mediacom auto authorize was done, I was able to setup the 5ghz radio as WPA/WPA2 mixed mode, instead of WPA2 only, and once I finally got it all back up and working it went from 100 to 149 and the Roku sees it now.

I gave up Sling a while back, but I looked on their web page and there is no mention of it being removed from the service. Maybe it is a glitch? I recommend going on Twitter and Messaging their account, I find I get answers reasonably quick.

On my Premiere+ Netflix was updated and now the * doesn't work anymore for showing the streaming info. So instead of making it work properly, they break it altogether?

Also, while I like the new tag look, I'm not a fan of how they have you access the sound/subtitle options. I feel like it was more intuitive before.

I doubt they broke it. That was probably intentional. It seems like the trend with Netflix apps is removing that info option. I have several devices now with newer versions of the Netflix app that no longer have access to that info.

That display is and always had been debugging code undocumented by Netflix. There are many devices where it has never been accessible (though I suspect that the code is always there, just not bound to a remote key). Tons of customers know about it and use it, but all of the information on it except for the resolution of the currently displayed video encode. Netflix probably would just as soon that it not be there because they no doubt get service call complaining about what people see on it. "This program is supposed to be HD and the stream info display says that it never gets better than 480p!" It may still be there, just requiring a specific sequence of remote commands to invoke.

On many devices (though not Rokus) Amazon Instant Video has a display of resolution which is part of the regular UI. It only has four values, indicating SD, 720p, 1080p and 4K. If Netflix gets enough complaints that they took that undocument information display out maybe they'll put resolution information in the normal UI. For a sanity check you can still play "[url=https://www.netflix.com/title/70297469]El Fuente: 60 main10[url]", a colorful clip about Mexico which has bit-rate/resolution information burned into each of its constituent video encodes.

This variant of the Netflix UI is not on all devices; of the things I've checked, my Premiere+ does not have it (yet), nor does my Xbox One S or the app in this smart TV. My Fire TV Stick and TiVo Bolt do have it which is a shame; my favorite Netflix streamer is the TiVo.

They did that a while back on the Roku 4 as well. I was expecting it although I don't like it. Maybe if all of us complained to Netflix and Roku they might bring it back?
