For now I’m going with 4K Dolby Vision. I know it’s not ideal for SDR but it’s ok and at least I don’t have to remember to change it when I watch HDR.

This also didn't work for me, was curious as I knew I had the ATV4K set to output 4:4:4, switching to 4:2:0 did nothing, had stuttering almost immediately watching live TV. Watching live now using 1080p SDR it seems to be ok.

Edit: Setting to 1080p SDR isn't a panacea, I'm still getting lip sync issues when watching recordings. It doesn't happen right away but eventually creeps up. Back to the Fire TV Stick.

Mine was always set to 4:2:0 and I’ve had the issue since TV OS 13.2 was released.

For what it’s worth:

I’ve spoken to Apple and they informed me that the issue is definitely on ATT’s end even though the issue doesn’t happen on any earlier version of TV OS prior to 13.2. The tech I spoke to was very aware of the issue and has received numerous reports himself alone.

ATT also confirmed that they are working on a fix. Two different techs I spoke to at ATT (via chat) immediately told me to set my output to 1080p as a workaround. So it does appear that they do at least know about the issue and how to mitigate it and that communication is being communicated down to the front line tech support team.

Hopefully they’ll have a fix very soon.

With this app being broken on the AppleTV I just can't take it anymore. I've been here since day one on the promotion plan but I just can't deal with these annoying bugs any longer. I've been testing FuboTV for a week and it has been great.

I have had AT&T TV Now (DTVN) since before they changed the name and increased the price. I always assumed either the picture settings on my TV were very off, or that the Apple TV 4K was doing a very bad job rendering the picture.

I eventually found out that, since I have a Samsung 4K UHD TV, and Samsung doesn’t support Dolby Vision. Most of the content that Apple provides is in Dolby Vision. If you aren’t getting your content directly from Apple, then Apple TV will always pick Dolby Vision over HDR10. Even if your TV doesn’t support it. Then the Apple TV will try to process the Dolby Vision content into something your TV can understand.

The Apple TV will always try to upconvert whatever content it is receiving. Somehow the AT&T TV Now app must be telling the Apple TV that it is sending an HDR picture when in fact it’s not.

Ever since the app was updated and I updated my Apple TV to tvOS 13.2, the sound was out of sync with the picture approx 1-2 minutes after I switched channels.

I have my Apple TV set to install beta versions of tvOS. So today I updated tvOS to 13.3 beta (17K5445a). I changed the video output back to 4K SDR on the Apple TV and there haven’t been any issues so far.

Hopefully the problem has been fixed in this beta release and stays fixed in the public release.

BTW, if you don’t have a TV that plays Dolby Vision at all. Do yourself a favor and turn off HDR full time. If you care that much to watch content in HDR, turn it on only when you’re playing content that only comes in HDR10 and not Dolby Vision. Otherwise the Apple TV will always choose to play the content in Dolby Vision and convert to HDR10. That will always produce a horrible picture.

The Epix pay tv channel is soley owned by MGM (with former partners Lionsgate and Paramount having departed in recent years). Comcast is entering into a carriage dispute with Lionsgate, which bought Starz, and from the outside, appears to be using Epix as a threat for replacement in tiers that now feature Starz.

ATT (if that's who you're on) may be trying the same...

@ Westly-C...thanks for that info ( I think). Yes, I subscribe to AT&T TV Now but not interested in Epix. I don't even have time nor the inkling to watch all of the channels in my grandfathered 'GO BIG' package as it is!....and I am retired!!

Arrow Scores another $10 refund

as of Dec 5th my bill will be $85 for the grandfathered 'GO BIG' package. The AT&T agent Lucy was able to provide another refund! actual cost for me is $75.
Do I like frequent price hikes?....hell no!
Will I continue subscribing?...yes, but not if the refunds discontinue. I informed Lucy of this
also.
This service provides two TV's with stellar PQ (picture quality), fast channel changing, good 5.1
sound to my 7.1 surround system.
I don't care to use DVR. I have sideloaded this on two 2017 Nvidia Shield streamers and seems
to perform well except I probably won't get any updates. I have an AppleTV 4K to compare if I am missing anything on the Shield(s).
YMMV of course!

I finally canceled and switched. I could of kept battling to get a credit every month but that's a little exhausting and Im tired of all the stuttering I have been getting with recorded shows playing back. I was grandfathered in but I feel its just a matter of time until the switch to a different plan is forced. I switched to Hulu since I was already paying for Hulu with ads. The bundle is 60.99 for Hulu and live. I also have tried Youtube TV and that was good as well. The menu is a little clunky with Hulu for the live portion but I can deal with it.

FYI, AT&T TV Now update to Roku streamers. Also reported in Reddit:

https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/att-...d-app-on-roku/

Reader comments also mention last channel function and inclusion of preview pane when fast forwarding.

Inclusion of optional Hallmark Channels a few weeks ago and movement of DVR to new platform gives me hope that they are still working on the service, instead of intending to drop it. What else could it be?

I subscribed for 6 months a year ago, on the $10/month special, but had to drop it because the DVR was simply not large enough. I had no problems at all, but I'm waiting for a larger DVR.

Otherwise, I'll go for Hulu Live TV or You Tube TV in January.

The Apple TV AT&T TV Now app was updated yesterday. Unfortunately, the AT&T update did nothing to fix the video playback issues when outputting 4k using the Apple TV. Note that my comments are based on the current version of the Apple tvOS 13.2.

I know xxfruityloopsxx mentioned that they weren't seeing any issues with the latest tvOS 13.3 beta but I haven't tried the latest beta myself. I might try that on a different ATV4k and report back.

Thanks for the update, I've been checking the board to see if there had been any progress. I've been using the new Fire TV Stick but prefer the ATV4K, it's awkward to keep switching b/w them so didn't know if the lip sync was fixed yet. The Fire TV Stick isn't without its issues either, there was one episode of bad lip sync on live TV but fixed by switching channels and it hasn't happened again. Sometimes the "Watch Now" and "My Library" don't populate which can be very frustrating.

Bad news...

I installed tvOS 13.3 beta 4 (released by Apple today) and the problem persists with the latest AT&T TV Now app when outputting 4k. I used a national channel for my test - CNN vs. my local NBC channel I often use. The problem doesn't show up until ~1 minute after switching to a new channel. But once it starts, the video stuttering makes it completely unwatchable. It's that bad.

Back to outputting 1080p from the ATV4k. No issues with 1080p output whatsoever (no lip sync issues or video stuttering).

I updated the AT&T TV Now app. on my Roku Ultra and it fixed all the slow issues I had. It's actually usable now but I use a Fire Cube and I'm not going back. The Cube turns on the TV, receiver and does volume up and down. It's just too convenient with the Cube. Why Roku can't make something as sophisticated as the Cube or Stick is a mystery to me. Sorry if I offended any Roku fans. Just my take.

Do you use the DVR at all? What made me give up on the ATV4K was lip sync when watching recordings even with output set to 1080p.

I don't normally use the DVR, no. I'll have to try it out sometime to see if I notice any issues.

At the moment I am watching the Fox/NFL network/Amazon Prime Thursday Night Fball game on the Apple 4K & an 4K LG TV using the stand alone Fox sports app ( not Fox on the go). Apple OS ver 13.2 and all is well ...BUT according to a recent CNET article the game is NOT sent in native 4K but in 1080p HDR and upgraded to 4 K HDR! This may not be an apples to apples comparison to what others have mentioned regarding the lip sync and video stuttering! The Apple 4K is set on 4K DoVI...
oh yeah, the score is Bears up by 3 in 2nd qtr.

The issue only happens with the DTVN app, other apps are not affected. Also, the Fox App does not display 4K HDR for any TNF game, “just” 4K SDR. If you want the HDR you’ll need a cable or satellite provider that supports it. 1080p HDR is so that they can film at a higher framerate (for instant replay), otherwise it would have been 4K HDR from end to end. Hoping next year we get more games in 1080p HDR minimum and if possible 4K HDR.

Yes, it’s a 4K stream I would hope it’s better I rarely use the ATTTVNow app anymore as I set up Channels DVR with TVAnywere access (via my ATTTVN credentials). This gets me access to my OTA locals and most all of the channels I watch. I no longer have the DVR issues and my only limit is the amount of storage I’ve allocated to the DVR function.

As a heads up it looks like the Fox app on Rokus and FireTVs have added HDR for TNF. Hopefully that means AppleTV4K app is not far behind in getting updated for it.

EDIT: did a quick switch over to an older Roku I have to test the 4K HDR. Quite a dramatic difference between the 4K HDR and SDR streams being offered by Fox. The HDR looks lovely.

I switched back to the ATV4K and so far so good, watched several recordings and no lip sync problem with output at 1080p. I did see that the app updated so maybe something changed.

Other then only 20 hours for DVR (let's face it there is no such thing as too much DVR space ). I can't complain about the service, even with the price increase I'll be up to 65.00 dollars a month (I added Cinemax to mine). When Sling lost the Fox RSN networks, that was the decider. I can park the major networks programming on an OTA Tivo and that leaves the cloud dvr with a lot less to do. Overall the service is set and forget, turn it on and watch.

It's certainly not without its bugs but the positives still outweigh the negatives for me. I can't do the OTA thing as I live in a valley and can only get weird local stations but other than nightly network news hardly watch the major networks for anything anyway.
