Exactly what I did. Factory reset, but it doesn't reset the various volumes and the volume that is external does not appear when I share it. It's there when it's a local connection.

Stumped. I thought a factory reset would do it, but it didn't.

Thanks though.

I was able to read all my drives again by getting a hub that connects via Type C. So all the ports work except the USB 3.0, but I have plenty of ports now with the hub.
Zappiti says I will need to send this in to get taken care of as they are not sure what's wrong. They said I can either send it to them at my cost, or wait until April when their facility in Florida is up and running. Since 3D is not a huge priority for me, I'll be waiting until April.

I have two 4k HDR SE players. The original one has f/w 3.10 - the new one has f/w 3.13. When selecting a 4k HDR mkv file, the new player does not display the HDR indicator in top RH corner of the screen. The original player does display the HDR indicator. Is this a problem with f/w 3.13 or have I missed something in the settings?

I believe your tv displays the HDR symbol when it detects an HDR signal not the Zappiti

True. But in this case it is the same file being played, I just swap the players - using the same cable & TV HDMI i/p socket. So the only difference is the player being used. The TV displays the symbol on f/w 3.10 but not f/w 3.13

What tv are you using? If the tv doesn’t display the HDR symbol then it’s not switching to a HDR picture mode and not receiving a HDR signal. You might want to check the settings on the second player

I think HDR -> SDR is enabled by default on 3.13.

Thx ChldsPlay
Way down the list of developer options is ""Turn HDR On"

Given it is an HDR player, why is this turned off by default?
Anyway now it works.

Joy.

I finally fixed the problem of missing movies on an external disk. The support crew at Zappiti suggested I re-install the firmware. Not my favorite thing to do, but it solved the problem and my external USB drive is now visible.

Finally.

TV Episodes

FWIW
Some of us record TV, remove commercials and save to our friendly Zap.
So, you would be familiar with s01e01 etc.
I have just discovered how far this goes.
Check out Putin's Revenge - this was part of a Frontline broadcast.
Zap will accept this as s2017e19 (&e20).
Isn't that amazing!
I just wish that I had control over the contents of Zappiti Video "Recent".

I have 2 identical 4k HDR SE players, each with identical HD's.
Player #1 has f/w 3.10 - player #2 has f/w 3.13
Player #1 plays all files - player #2 only plays a few files.
I have not had the time to sort out which files #2 will not play.
Is this a common problem?
Either way, I am inclined to forget f/w 3.13 and hope that f/w 3.14 will fix this.
For player #2 I do not want to risk changing the f/w to 3.10 (I bricked the last box that I tried this).

Anyone have any issues playing back Happy Death Day?

Watched it last night and it skipped a couple times. Once for less than a second, and once for maybe 2 seconds.

The 2nd was definitely repeatable. Thought it might be the rip (mkv via makemkv), but I tried on my Dune D1, and it worked fine.

So I am running my new Zappiti One 4K HDR thru my Oppo in an attempt to get HDR tone mapped to SDR rec2020. No matter what I do (turn off HDR to SDR conversion and enable HDR in developer settings) I cannot get anything other than an SDR rec709 signal on my Oppo. What am I missing?

I have worked it out. The only way I can play BD files is to use the BD Menu. I am getting used to this, but I still have not figured out how to stop a movie so that the player remembers the place that I stopped. I would appreciate if someone could tell me how.

Just learned about these from a customer in Dubai whose design firm has standardized on these devices for media playback.

Just reading the last couple pages here seems like there are some pretty heavy bugs to consider?

4K UHD BDMV folder playback similar to how the Oppo does it, how do these players do in that regards? I'm beginning to feel like finding another device, hardware or software, that handles 4K UHD BDMV folders like the Oppo does is a pointless pursuit. It's completely maddening.

So would a mini be a good starter? External drives only SATA or USB 2/3 seems fine, no shortage of those here.

Thank you for your words folks,

Alex

I have an Oppo 203 & the Zappiti 4k handles BDMV files in AVCHD folders like the Oppo does.

The Oppo 203 is more advanced as far as playing files (less bugs). The Zappiti doesn’t play Dolby Vision.

The Zappiti comes close to the Oppo 203. It does play the files fine but the navigation isn’t as smooth.

The Zappiti starts the files with the subtitles on. You have to manually turn them off. It doesn’t remember the last place you stopped the file like the Oppo 203 does.

The Zappiti does play. ISO files.

So it's buggy as all heck, I've worked on products like that :-) I can probably live with that. Maybe Oppo can sell Zappiti the BDMV folder handling part of the code. Maybe I'm the only person on Earth who gives a hoot about 4K UHD BDMV folders? You know I've never once placed the bdmv folder inside of an avchd folder, it's that a blu ray thing only? Shoot I did specify I'm talking 4K UHD Blu Ray right? Does it at least play the file without freezing up randomly? Do ISO files work the same way? I've never once attempted to play an ISO file, heck I've never ripped anything to an ISO file.
I wonder why makemkv outputs bdmv folders for a 4K UHD "full disc backup" when there is basically nothing that can play them back except for a super high end UHD player that's no longer made that you'd pay $1200 for on Ebay and this Zappiti thing which sounds like it can more or less do it.

Thank you so much for your informative reply, I mean that, awesome info. Are you planning on updating your Oppo to the latest release? I'm a tad paranoid about Oppo commenting out 4k BDMV folder support because a movie studio had the legal department send Oppo a nasty gram. Perhaps I'm a little too into these 4K UHD BDMV folders?

Aside from it's known problems (only you can decide if you can live with them) - it has the best poster-wall in the business!! This makes it good enough for me.

To play a 4k UHD folder on the Oppo 203 I had to put the BDMV in a AVCHD folder to get it to play according to what I was told.

It worked fine with menus on the Oppo 203.

The folders play fine on the Zappiti also.

Hopefully Zappiti will update the Media player with menus so it will not be so buggy.

I can barely deal with it now. They said they don’t enough about the menus software to have the subtitles turn off automatically at the start of a movie. Also if you forward or backwards with the arrows around the wheel on the remote it goes forwards or backwards 10 seconds. When I emailed them about that they said they hadn’t noticed.

Also they said that forced subtitles don’t always work on menus with JAVA.

I really wish Oppo had sold their software to Zappiti.

Thats not how this works. Oppo has an official BD license from the BDA, which they paid for. Afaik MediaTek has a BD stack implemented on their Chips, which Oppo is allowed to use as they have a BD license and pay the fees.
Zappiti (and Dune, Zidoo for that matter) do not have this license and have to reverse engineer how BD menu works. Oppo can't just sell them IP of another company, that's illegal.
So one company is using the official "solution" whereas all the others need to create their own. Thats the reason why Zappiti's implementation is buggy and nobody will have a BD menu implementation which is on that level of a standalone BD player.

I have mine set (latest Z explorer and 3.13 f/w) to play without subtitles and it does ask me if I want to resume from where I left off.

Or are you only talking about BD menu playback? You only said "files" and mine works when loading a single file directly.

There are many other issues, but those two work for me.

Ok, weird thing now..

Zappiti Hdr One

My Internal HDD just disappeared from zappiti video and network..

On my PC says the HDD is there, but empty..

But if i use the zappiti explorer, the hdd is there, and I can see/watch all the movies from there.

Really dont want to format the drive, its a 8Tb hdd with all my 4k remux..

Help!

Edit: Well, locally, it reappeared again, after I created a new collection, with the same files and locations.

On the Share, it's still "empty" and my pc says the same..

dang

You can turn the subtitles off with movie only playback.

With menus playback there is no way I have found you can start the movie with subtitles off each time & it also does not have a resume feature.

I emailed Zappiti about it & they said they are aware of it but they don’t know how to fix it in the software. They stated the menu software was done for them not by them so they don’t fully understand it. Hopefully they will in the future.

Wow I had a great experience today. I called Zappiti US today & was transferred to the CEO here.

I got a lot of great information. They will start selling on Amazon again. They have a new chip they are working with for players in the future the engineers are drooling over.

He didn’t have an answer about Dolby Vision in future players. They are continuing to work on the Menu software player to make it better.

He said if I had a technical question I could talk to one of their head engineers. They’re trying to become more people friendly.
