Zappiti 4K HDR (Mini, One, Duo) Thread

I set the display settings to 1080p in the Zappiti and the receiver changed to 1080p and on the apps menu and the main menu it still showed 1080p but as soon as I selected the Zappiti Video it changed to 4k? And wouldn’t switch back until I re-selected 1080p in settings

I was able to force it to 1080p by changing the tab in the direct mode settings to force the UI into 1080p but it’s not outputting in direct mode because the DVD showed 1080p

Have you tried forcing resolution to 1080p (mine is 60Hz).

Yes I was able to force it but that’s not direct because the DVD was 1080p as well

Not sure - I get 576i when I launch a DVD (as expected).

I turned on Auto Direct and lost my picture. Nothing - zip. Turning it off and on I got to the Menu and if I select Videos POOF - no picture. I have the Sony 4K PJ and a Denon AVR that supports full 4K so I ended up resetting my One back to factory settings and did NOT download this update and I'm back to having a picture.
Lesson learned for me- it works as-is so I'm not going to try that again.

Do you get the same result when you connect direct to your TV?

Obviously, if you enable Direct Output, you will be at the mercy of your TV up-scaling.
In my case the TV up-scaling (LG C7 Oled) is much better than before Direct Output.

Handshaking is certainly worse under direct. When I am on another device and then go back to the Zap I get a blank screening meaning I have to switch off and on again the TV or receiver to re-establish. That never used to happen but not a biggie.

At present I am using Direct Output with forced 1080p 60Hz display setting. When I launch either a DVD or BD rip, I get a message asking if I want to use 2160 display setting. I chose to cancel this. My TV then reports that the signal from Zap is either 576i or 1080p - as expected. I asked Tech Support if I can get rid of this unnecessary message. They suggested that I force display setting to 2160 instead. I have not tried this yet. Has anyone else tried this?

I have GUI in 4k and I don't get the question when I play 1080p, it just changes.

I have noticed some small stutter a couple of times that was not in the movie when I reversed back to check again. Too early to blame the direct mode but have not seen this for a while before I changed to direct so it is suspected. Keep an eye out for this.

Looked through the last couple of pages and didn't see it listed. Big jump in price from the 4K HDR DUO.
Same CPU as DUO, comes with new enhanced remote and a few other feature updates.

I updated the zappiti video and first, the direct mode wasn't working. And then it hits me, I have been pressing play before zappiti compiles the technical information of the file... So I waited for zappiti to compile the info before pressing play during first access and wahla, it works perferctly.

I’ve got both & I find myself using the Oppo 203 more. The Oppo has Dolby Vision & is a sharper picture.

I love the Zappiti video wall though.

The Oppo will also let you force Dolby Vision & some movies that are in HDR look better using the Oppo forced Dolby Vision.

I thought about the Zappiti NAS but it does not come with hard drives. You have to buy them seperately.

I believe you could use the Zappiti NAS networked to the Oppo & the Zappiti.

It would help if Zappiti improved the Blu-ray menus. I’m still having trouble with some of the forced subtitles.

It also annoys me that .iso files start with the subtitles on when using using Menus. The navigation isn’t as smooth when using Menus.

The Oppo always selects the forced subtitles & no problem playing Menus.

I still use the Zappiti but not nearly as much as the Oppo 203.

Thx a lot

They have software to play 4K .iso files on Oppo 203. They have a sharper picture on Oppo & the Dolby vision makes some of the titles a lot better if you have an OLED.

Zappiti has the best movie wall software I’ve found but I use it for MKVs since the software is smoother with navigation.

I rip the MKVs with the lossless audio track & forced subtitles then I leave the subtitles turned on so it will catch them if it has forced subtitles. It has worked flawlessly for me that way.

I have both and would not give up my Oppo 203. At the same time, I love the Zappiti video poster wall. It is much better than the Zidoo Z9s or X9s. The Oppo has been pretty much bullet-proof, but the Zappiti can be finicky at times. IMHO, the Zappiti NAS is overpriced for what it is. I bought a Synology NAS and a couple of larger drives set up as a RAID for data redundancy and everything is working very well. I can also access the Synology NAS through the Oppo. So, why do I keep the Oppo? My wife puts it very well when something isn't working properly on the streaming devices: "Just put in a Disc".

Oh, and one other thing about the Zappiti: you can travel with it. When we go on vacation I load up a portable usb drive with a lot of "content" and take the Zappiti with us. Wherever we are, I can plug it into a TV and have access to all the content on the drive. Make sure to bring the remote control, though. The last time I checked the Zappiti "app" for a smart phone can't power up the Zappiti. It's something I should check with tech support to see if they have updated their App.

I have the NAS rip and I love the simplicity of just putting a disc in and it rips automatically.

I have a large collection of Blu-Ray and 4K Blu-Ray discs, and it's great to be able to rip them so simply in the NAS rip drive.

In fairness I have a $400 low powered Celeron PC with 3 optical drives and I can rip UHD or whatever disc using MakeMKV with the click of a couple of buttons. It also acts as a server. So your version of “simplicity” comes at a premium of $2,000+.

Re Direct Output
I have 2 One SE players. One has f/w 3.10 the other has f/w 3.13
When I play a 1080p file on the 3.10 - the TV says that the player is sending 1080p.
Play the same file on the 3.13 - the TV reports 1080i. Amazing?

In fairness, I didn't pay that and my NAS rip is rack mounted in a centralized Middle Atlantic rack with structured wiring and I wouldn't consider ghetto'ing my system up for your version of frugality.

Haha good answer. I'm just saying that what Zappiti offers on their rip product can easily be achieved at a fraction of the cost. But each to their own.

Well, that's pretty much true for every product. Also, MakeMKV is not as easy as the NAS RIP. You have to check manually for forced subtitles as not every BD has them marked as such. And don't get me started on TV series....I use MakeMKV exclusively but its far from a one click solution.
Its obviously meant for people who don't want to bother with this, but just put in the disc and be done with it. If you compare it to Kaleidescape its a pretty decent price point.

Well, that's pretty much true for every product.
That does not make it any less valid as a point.

If you choose full disc backup on MakeMKV for BD and UHD then it is essentially a one click solution. As to selection of TV episodes then the rip product can't be any more smart than other solutions.

Ok, in anticipation of my new zappiti player I have installed Zappiti Server on my Synology NAS and Zappiti Video on my Mac to do a little bit of tinkering with this Movie DB. I have registered a free account, I have logged in to the zappiti NAS server, collection was created but ... I unable to add movie folders from my NAS. I have no idea what I doing wrong ...

Just an empty folder which in fact is filled with movies. It even didn't ask for my SMB username and password.
