AirTV At CES 2017

I was hoping that this would allow streaming over local over the air channels, via the web, to other devices, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If you have the shield just get HDhomeRun and you will have exactly what this device offers and what you want and tons of more features from the shield and the HDhomeRun tuner.

Yeah, thought It would be more of a network tuners. Not good if you have 3 tv's total $400 not including 3 antennas. Curious to know the specs Could be a good box for PlayStation Vue and Hdhomerun.

Maybe down the road with an external hard drive. It would be pretty tough to upload the signal from your antenna transcode it store it and send it back down

I sent a message to AirTV support (via Facebook) asking about HDR support. The reply was that they had "no information about HDR", which I take to mean that support doesn't know.

I cut the cable this week to AirTV

I just cut my cable cord this week after 10 years. I live in Phoenix AZ.
My bill kept rising with very little to show for it or may I say nothing I wanted to view.
I was paying for TV local channels and lots of other garbage. I hardly used On Demand and once in awhile find a movie that I paid $5.99 or more.
So my TV Bill was over $100 for this and I cut the cord. (No HBO, Showtime, Cinamax, No Sports)
I installed a $34 UHF/VHF antenna in attic and ran coax to feed all my house TV outlets. I picked up 61 channels but all I wanted was the major networks which all came in strong. I live 45 miles from transmitters.
I then purchased the NEW CES 2017 AirTV with it's Over The Air Adapter for $130. (Owned by DISH Network)
I also purchased SlingTV streaming Blue package which is $25 a month, no contract, can stop anytime. (Owned by DISH network)

I have a really slow internet of 16mbps download and 3MBps upload which I have going into my Netgear AC1600 Wifi Cable modem AC1600.

So long story short:
I dropped my Cable TV bill $100 a month
I maintained my Internet access
I purchased AirTV box and OTA Adapter $130 one time. (Comes with $50 credit for SlingTV)
I purchased Sling TV BLUE package for $25 a month which allows me to stream 3 devices simultaneously.
SlingTV also sent me a free cheap ROKU express.
And everything is running great.

Note:
The only issue is with AirTV console. It did not come with the same software it showed at Las Vegas CES in Jan 2017.
That software merged the Over the Air channels and the SlingTV Guide together in one which was very nice.
They say it will be updated by mid February

Oh you can use voice commands to change channels and use Google and ask questions like what is the temperature in Phoenix AZ etc.

Any questions just ask

I see it has an extra usb port. Any idea if this will support mkv files on an external hard drive?

The 1 of 2 USB hub is for the OTA antenna tuner. That is what I have plugged into my USB port now.
They have not released much information on the box but the rumors say they will add external HD as a DVR in the future.
That is what others are saying. They also say that is the purpose of the 2nd USB plug-in.

Now that I have been using it for a week I do have some info.
I did do a complete reset after my initial one because I wanted to make sure I set it up correctly.
Their is a factory reset that starts you from scratch.
The nice thing is you do just plug it in and turn it on and it will go thru a sequence to setup.

1. The Android processor is very quick to respond to remote commands and you can zoom thru the Guide with lighting speed.
2. Remote was easily adaptable to my Samsung LED Smart TV, Sound Bar and the AirTV
Some don't like the color of the remote but all feel is good and the buttons all work well.
3. Sling TV is running great and has lots of stuff to watch. Have not used Netflix key now the Google key on the remote to watch more pay for view.
4. The USB OTA tuners seems to be just a Hauppauge HD tuner rebranded with WinTV on it. I actually plugged it into my desktop PC and it knew what it was.
5. If you have anything go wrong you must go to the website to learn how to do things because it comes with no instructions.

I'm still waiting for AirTV to release the new software that merges both Sling TV guide and the OTA channels together like they demoed in Las Vegas.

Thanks for all the great information. I understand the first USB port is for the OTA tuner. With the second USB port, will it recognize an external drive and can it play video files from it out of the box? Is there an app from the Google Play store that will accomplish this? I understand eventually the second port is meant for DVR, but I wonder if it can be used right now. DVR functionality really doesn't matter to me.

Not sure what the second USB port is for but in Las Vegas they did have an external drive hooked up to it.
Google Play store is built into the system and has a button on the remote to start it but you can also select it from inside the menu/setup Apps first for your login and password.
All a DVR is a HD attached but so far I see no way to schedule a start or stop within the AirTV menu system.

My thought is that AirTV has many things to expand the use of the AirTV console.
The console processor is fast, it has a lot of memory but I have no idea how much.

Update:
The Android AirTV box shows
4.9GB of internal storage
With everything running it says it has 4.3GB available
It is running 6.0.1-1.0.2. build MUF05

AirTV Firmware V605304

I wish I could find out what processor it uses and what speed.
Internal memory
Bluetooth version

I researched around and even found the FCC forms for the device but no details.
Anyone out there have any more data?

Update Feb 13, 2017
Just spoke to AirTV support folks and they said the new firmware update will be released next Monday Feb 20th silently to all AirTV boxes.
I have a few minor Over The Air TV, USB TV Tuner scanning issues that I called about and they gave me a reference number to call back if I still have an issue.
The OTA channels are strong but I'm unable to view them because it says its a weak signal which they are not because I tested those channels on other TV without the AirTV box and they work great.

They also asked me to go and turn on debugging for the AirTV so they can see any issues on my account.
Debugging is located in the AirTV setup area under Support. I did it and they said thanks.

We will now see if the new firmware will help.

My present firmware is 1.0E3FE1C
Anyone have anything different?

AirTV Box SPECS I'm pretty sure are good.

Android 6.01
CPU: quad core A53 @ 1.2Ghz RAM: 1GB Onboard Storage: 8GB
Ports: 2 USB, 100 Mb Ethernet, TOSLINK digital audio, HDMI
Supports up to 4k UHD video
Supports 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz Wifi g/n/ac

Hope this helps all until it really is know what's in the box.

After being away from home I returned and the AirTV box updated its firmware and other software.
What I have found is that the neat Over the Air TV guide is gone and now we have a very long single line guide.
I thought it would be a better design as they said it would be merging both streaming Sling TV channels with OTA channels.

Not happy what I presently see.
Hopefully it will change when others complain.

If you want to keep the present OTA TV Guide do not upgrade. Hold off.

Odd question, but hopefully someone has seen this.

My AirTV on initial turn on or when I press the sling button, seems to be making my Samsung KS8000 go to HDMI 1 input. I've disconnected everything in troubleshooting and its definitely those two things that are causing it. Has anyone else seen this?

turning that off won't fix it, already did that. Airtv is plugged into HDMI 3. I don't even have to have the HDMI plugged into the tv and the remote makes the samsung go to HDMI 1 when pressing power or pressing the sling button.

This month the AirTV 2 is available, direct, and like Stream+, has a lot of questions/working on, features.
It has a network tuner, available to any 2 devices at a time, at home, or away, can be attached to your OTA antenna wherever it gets best reception, ( like Clearstream TV), and integrates into Sling TV app and channel guide.

It has USB connectivity for Future OTA recording feature, ( sound familiar?).

I'm not certain if this AirTV 2 device is Technicolor or not.

Edit-They have deleted all references to USB and Future Recording access, but USB port clearly visible.
I like the AirTV concept, although it's pretty closely tied to Sling TV. This article says it's for sale now. Confusingly, they dropped the 2; it's just called AirTV now, not to be confused with the original "AirTV Player." Nor is it to be confused with the now-defunct https://www.avsforum.com/forum/25-hdt...-stations.html

If it allows the ability to watch outside of the home, then I am interested. The case looks like the Slingbox M1/M 2 case.

The new AirTV box is gone from the Slingbox "buy" page now. But you can still get it at AirTV's site: https://www.airtv.net/products/airtv/ (The original AirTV player is at https://www.airtv.net/products/airtv_player)

The price is the same ($120). I think the fact that it was briefly listed on the Slingbox page betrays its origin

Supposedly, it lets you watch outside of the home:
Quote:
Watch local OTA channels in HD on TVs and mobile devices in and outside your home
Which makes me think it incorporates a Slingbox internally.
