My post had nothing to do with the price increase. The question that was asked was how to transfer services out of iTunes and just pay YouTube. I was just posting a link in case someone needed to reach out to Google if they had any issues or questions regarding that.

Thanks man. I'll try that. I thought that'd be the case but good to have some confirmation.

Google's motto is Don't Be Evil.

Raising the price of YouTube TV because they added a bunch of channels I do not want is the very definition of EVIL. Shame on you Google.

I have no proof one way or the other but what if they could prove to you that it’s not profitable at $40 but is at $50? Would they still be evil in your mind?

Absolutely. If it is not profitable at $40 then why not remove a few of the worthless channels instead? I don't want those new channels and they are charging me for it. That is flat out evil.

That is on the opinion page. They have no sources and have made educated guesses ar best.

I figure Alphabet should be paying us for the data they're collecting on our viewing habits but if these numbers are somewhat accurate the information is only worth $12 a year and not $100 a year which only further irates me.

Your link says that they were losing money despite the subscription numbers.

“YouTube TV was also estimated to be incurring heavy losses in spite of increasing the monthly fee by $5 in March 2018. The Information estimated last summer that the cost to YouTube per month for its network bundle was $49; given the subscription was priced at $40, this meant that YouTube was losing at least $9 a month per subscriber, as this doesn’t include the costs of running the service. With the estimated 400,000 new subscribers at the end of 2018, that amounts to $3.6 million extra per month. Chump change perhaps for parent Alphabet, but a growing loss nonetheless.”

Yes, it's speculation based on other sources. What I found interesting was the estimation of channels cost vs the speculated increase needed to offset losses. Despite the increase amount, there may still be $1 loss per subscriber for the added channels. And the timing of the increase was an interesting point to me. Of all the articles I read about YTTV's increase, this one seemed most informative, IMO.

And if growth slows and more subscribers are lost, the loss per subscriber may increase as well.

I had already given an opinion so I tried to let this one stand on its own opinion to balance against my own.

I'm not a big fan of these articles that try to show how a service like YTTV is "losing money" based on comparing price of service vs. presumed costs of programming. There's so much more that goes into it. And the Variety article even touches on the value of addressable advertising, which can be worth four to five times more than the cost of regular advertising. There's also the whole selling our data to various third parties, and the value of drawing customers deeper into the YouTube/Google ecosystem. We also don't know if YouTube TV got a reduced price on, for example, Fox channels because YouTube committed to $XX millions in advertising on their channels (something they budget for anyway). Along those lines, we could very well see the addition of the NFL Network (without a corresponding price increase) because YouTube signs on as title sponsor of the NFL for the 2019 season, and/or because YouTube turns over all its data about viewing habits of sports fans.

YouTubeTV is a direct sponsor of the Super Bowl for at least two years now. It only seems logical.

Many of channels that you never watch likely don’t have a huge audience. That means they cost the provider next to nothing.

I'm not saying it's the case here but there are times when those "worthless channels" actually pay to be included.

I don't understand how we got to the point where that's not the norm. I remember the promise that "Pay for TV" was going to be commercial free bliss

PS - I don't believe anyone was "losing money" even at $35/mos. Lies, damn lies, and statistics

Arrow YTTV may get more DirecTV Now refugees

an online chat 'manager' (Craig) just informed me of a $10/month price increase for DTVN. I noticed that my price on my acct page for the 'NEXT BILL' was incorrect ( 10 bux higher).
His exact words said it was a 'current' price increase. I have NOT received an official notice from AT&T but I informed him of this.

Providers are fighting, consumers are losing.
Why force clients to pay more?
and more
and more
Let's see how much it will cost a year from now.
$60? $65?

DTVN sent emails a couple months back about the $10 price increase. The email said it would start with the May billing date. You’re not the first one who either doesn’t remember getting the email or never received it.

If YouTube TV is going to raise the price to $50 a month, they need to allow 5 streams at once like Vue. Someone in our house is constantly getting booted off a show in the evening.

Use the network apps when possible. They wouldn't count against the streams. If it's due to sports then I find the Fox Sports and ESPN apps look better than the YTTV stream. The NBC Sports app has regressed to 30fps for some reason.

Also 2 new channels were added yesterday, 4/17

CNBC World (HD)
Cozi TV (SD)

Don't 2 of those 5 streams have to be PlayStation devices.

quoting m_snow...DTVN sent emails a couple months back about the $10 price increase. The email said it would start with the May billing date. You’re not the first one who either doesn’t remember getting the email or never received it.

Thank you m_snow for your concern, however I do not fit into either one of these circumstances! After complaining about a price increase via online text, for which I HAD NOT had an official notice from AT&T previously, AT&T then committed to me a discount of 10 bux/month via email for 3 consecutive months through July 5th. I received this email at 9:34 am on March 14.
Just a mere 12 1/2 hrs later that same Mar 14th evening I received an official notice of changes in the program packages and price increase!
AT&T essentially reneged on that commitment of a $10 per month discount as I only got a one month discount! I have no idea if the agents that I chatted with online via my DirecTV NOW webpage knew that this price increase would nullify the aforementioned commitment! Needless to say I am PISSED!!

Verizon Will Resell YouTube TV to Wireless, Broadband Customers Across U.S.

Verizon has turned to Google for over-the-top TV: The telco will market and resell YouTube TV to wireless and Fios broadband customers nationwide — leading with 5G early adopters — under a pact with the internet giant...the companies didn’t announce YouTube TV pricing, availability or other details; a Verizon rep said only that the reseller deal will launch later in 2019. Under the pact, Verizon said it will offer “unique, high-value YouTube TV promotions” across platforms...

I'm going to keep an eye on this... I'd love to find even at least a little savings after the price hike, especially being a previously grandfathered $35/month subscriber.

Same here. This is interesting. But Verizon 5G home internet not yet available here.

I signed up for Verizon 5G broadband updates for my area anyway. This area like many I'm sure needs competition anyhow.

As a FIOS internet only customer, I am intrigued....BUT, since they are trying to push their 5G service, my concern is they will give the better "deal" to those who sign up for their 5G service instead of their broadband service.

"The partnership will allow them to add the service to their internet bundles, though it's not clear at the moment if Verizon will be able to offer the option at a lower price." We shall see.
