Reallly?!? Dolby Vision?? I'll need to test it. I thought the FireTv was only HDR10?

That's correct, the FTV does not support DV. However, some Amazon apps do offer DV in TVs and such.

Thanks for the screensaver answer you gave me.

I wasn't sure about HLG to answer your question.
But thanks to @galonzo for giving a good answer. I look forward to his findings when he has time to update the subject.

That's what I thought. I have no problem getting DV from Amazon on my TV. But I had never heard of getting Dv from the current 4k fire TV

So other devices besides amazon 4k ftv pendant (3rd gen) can support Jack Ryan in DV but the 3rd gen FTV cannot?

EDIT: I'll answer my own question based on the Forbes article:
Quote:
Amazon’s own Fire TV and Fire TV Cube are both confirmed as supporting the Dolby Atmos audio track. Strangely, though, neither of these Amazon devices can deliver Dolby Vision; another reason that the decision to offer Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan in Dolby Vision has come as something of a surprise.
Apparently, those that are watching Jack Ryan in DV are doing so through devices or TV apps other than amazon 4k FTV. WTF amazon???

@arronwt Sorry for the confusion. I'll edit my prior post.

The FireTV. Does not support DV, but if you have the Amazon native app on your TV it does. Makes no sense.

Kind of in the same way DD5.1 from Hulu is only offered for the Xbox One, PS4, new LG TVs and Nintendo Switch. So 3 GAMING systems and only one TV brand/model

It makes perfect sense. Some TVs (a minority) have the hardware to support dolby vision, and those TVs will offer dolby vision for Jack Ryan.

Most TVs though do not have the hardware capable of supporting dolby vision - not even the "software only" cut-down dolby vision "lite" profile that the Sony TVs use. The FireTV's hardware also falls into this category.

i'm wandering if it might be the hardware (stick gen2)... but the roku works great.. the only thing i don't like about it: when going back from album to song while music is playing (to see lyrics , for instance) the song will restart , other than that,, they are about the same... more later...

Apart from considerations about hardware limitations, the TVs are already DV certified. FTV is not.

I wonder if it's possible for amazon to upgrade the current 4K FTV Gen 3 and the FTV Cube via firmware to support DV?

If I were a recent Cube customer, I'd be irritated if it can't be upgraded to support DV.

Only if the hardware supports it. And i doubt the old SoC used can support it. The new MediaTek MT8695 in the new Fire Tv 4K stick is designed with DV included. But the older MediaTek SoCs are not.

LOL, there are already more hardware devices that claim to support HDR10+ than there are actual HDR10+ titles available to watch since Amazon are not streaming it. This is just adding to that number making it all the more embarrassing. And still no downloadable HDR10+ demo clip in the whole world that can be played from USB.

I believe Amazon is currently supporting HDR10+ on some built in display Apps. Samsung TVs in particular since they "invented" this royalty free format. Panasonic has also jumped on. Without a Sami TV I can't say definitively.

Nope, they aren't unfortunately.

Yes those are the manufacturers who support the format.

But there is no HDR10+ content on Amazon. Not one single title. People with Sami TVs have said definitely, for over a year now.

There was a Samsung press release claiming Amazon were streaming HDR10+, but Amazon's own help page (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/cus...-no-redirect=1) says that "If your television is compatible, and the Prime Video title supports it, an "HDR10+" label appears instead of the normal "HDR" label in the video details.". Not one user has ever seen the HDR10+ label appear in Amazon's app on their Samsung 2017/8/9 model TV. The TV itself doesn't tell you "this is HDR10+" either. So Amazon are not using it yet.

Lots of people are eagerly waiting for it, so that we can test HDR10+ against HDR10, believe me. There is a lot of attention on this issue.

Hence my post above. It's laughable, but there are more hardware devices which support the format, than actual titles that anyone can watch at the moment (zero).

I stopped using my 4K gen-3 pendant because the video processing is so bad with the newest software.

Hopefully this new stick will do better. It supports the Ethernet adapter, which is good.

so my cube is return eligible until 10/8 (I got it on sale for $69.99)... I wonder if I should return in favor of the new 4K Stick? My biggest question is... can it use USB OTG to expand storage? (from what I read, its unknown at the moment)

Any word on whether there will be a new Amazon FireTV that has the capabilities of the FireTV 4K stick? I'd prefer an option with HDMI to use with my receiver.

Perhaps I missed your point, but you can plug a FTV Stick into an HDMI port on a receiver.

No, I'm an idiot. For some reason, I thought it had a USB port.

So I guess there is no compelling reason to have a Fire TV once the new Amazon FireTV 4K stick comes out?

No. Not at all since the new FireTv 4K stick has better specs and does more than the Pendant. I will be replacing my FireTV 4K pendant and moving it over to my HDR10 UHDTV. The only question is when I purchase it and how much I pay.

I might get the bundle with the new Echo Mini. Like I did last year with the FireTv 4K pendant. But I'm waiting to see when the bundles appear at Best Buy first.

It does have a usb port for power and an optional ethernet adapter. Audio/video are sent thought the HDMI port.

Hard to say whether there is a compelling reason to wait for a new unannounced FTV pendant or box. Perhaps if it had the ability to upgrade storage and had integrated 1Gbit ethernet, etc. For the vast majority of most users, the new 4K FTV Stick should be sufficient.

It can do everything and more than the Pendant could. It should be good for everyone.

Assuming the 25% less RAM causes no issues(1.5GB vs. 2GB), I expect the FireTV 4K stick to be a nice upgrade over my FireTv 4K Pendant.
