Agreed. Always comical to see some of the trolls posts. No matter what Dune does for a select few it will never be good enough. Not even sure why they have the Dune. Who knows, maybe they're just grumpy all the time. It's still fun reading their posts!

Finally a new firmware, let's wait and see the final one with uhd menus.

Any positive feedback on the firmware?

I posted a while back that I was not impressed with the Dune PQ: pretty poor deinterlacing job with DVD material and quite a bit of noise in general, also with BR and 4K material. I have been comparing this to my Oppos (103D and 203).

I have seen discussions with other AV equipment about upgrading the PSU . I was wondering if anyone has tried it with this Dune yet. Mine came with a standard DC 12V - 3A brick. I cannot tell how good/linear of a PSU this is. Before I blindly go and spend money a new one, I'd rather like to know if this is an avenue worth pursuing.
This one is not too esoteric and seems to have gotten good reviews in the AV realm. However, is also only rated for 1.8A. (Does anyone know how much the Dune actually needs? 3A seems to be a bit on the high side for such a media player).

Thanks!

Did you notice any discernible improvement in PQ after the upgrade and if so, in what aspect?

Slightly low picture noise nothing major, for me when using the spears and munsil disc I found the the solo 4k, apple tv 4k and oppo all had better picture processing that the pro 4k which will probably be more evident on a large screen projector.

Let me explain (again).

A troll is someone who tries to interfere in a discussion with the purpose of being annoying and to derail the conversation. This is not the case here.

For me, i've been a huge Dune fan for almost 10 years now. Started with a Dune Prime 3.0, then a Dune HD Solo, both amazing machines and far ahead of the competition. The first and for a long time, only players that could play everything, and could play bluray's with menu support. In the end, the only thing the Solo 4K was missing in my opinion, was proper HDR...

And then Dune introduced the 4K Pro, over a year ago(!). This could do anything the Solo 4K could, plus HDR, ánd it would do UHD menu's! Given Dune's reputation of technologically sound machines in the past, no one would even dare to doubt Dune on these specs. But... once it was for sale, and people like me bought it... we woke up. The 4K Pro was far from finished. Was missing all sorts of basic functionality the Solo and previous models had out of the box. Furthermore, there were bugs, and the promised UHD menu's weren't there, 'but would be added in later firmware'. It's over a year now. I'm still waiting. And if they release a firmware, it is 90% additional sh*t no one wants, in stead of basic features that are still missing... they don't even seem to care anymore.

So no, this is not 'trolling'. That is too easy. These are reactions from disappointed customers who know Dune can do better, who feel Dune let them down.

I have to agree with jowicrt. Why spend precious development time on stuff (such as their control app!!) when there is still basic stuff to deliver and/or fix?

Dune need to prioritise these before developing and delivering additional fluff that I doubt many people care about.

Agree with the comment. Quoting the parts I want to highlight.

I myself have Mede8er for 1080p Video, TV Series, Photos, Music, and Radio. It does all the frame rates and so on; has been doing for years. Quite happy with it. But I need a 4K replacement - one without major limitations - I'm waiting for:

- Support for boxset (also called Saga sometimes) like Harry Potter Saga, LOTR Saga etc.
- Forced subtitle support in ISOs, BDMV Folders, and MKV
- Menus in ISOs, BDMV Folders
- Seamless branching in ISOs, BDMV Folders
- Allow custom artwork (fanart etc.) while including a default scraper
- DV and HDR10
- 3D Sound

I certainly hope Dune will step up and deliver the full package soon.

I'm just kibbitzing here, but I had to put in my 2¢ and agree with jowicrt. I own a 2012-vintage Dune HD Max. It doesn't do scraping and the UI is pretty primitive but it's been great for playing non-UHD content and handles DVD/BD ISO disc images and VIDEO_TS/BDMV folders with aplomb. When the 4K products started to roll out I started checking this thread to see what the owners were saying and it's still waiting ... waiting ... waiting for UHD menus.

Now the Dune HD Max 4K is out as well (perfect machine for me as I don't need the Pro's audiophile stuff) and I have to assume the firmware will be in the same state as the Pro is currently. I have 4K playback options (CXUHD player, Infuse on Apple TV 4K) but neither of them do menus w/ ISO/VIDEO_TS/BDMV (as far as I can tell) so I'm still waiting for that golden goose to appear ... and I was hoping Dune would provide it. Still waiting ...

I am pretty sure the max can do scraping with third party software like yadis and zappiti.

The new hd max 4k will cost quite a bit and with pretty much extactly the same software and issues.

My oppo 203 can playback bluray/UHD menus via a BDMV folder structure over the network using a little free utility for the oppo (bdmodifier 2.0), it plays back full dolby vision menu structure to. All this using the latest official oppo firmware and not some jailbroken firmware.

Dune did say they will release the UHD menu support in few days so let's see what that brings.

Thanks

The new hd max 4k will cost quite a bit and with pretty much extactly the same software and issues.

My oppo 203 can playback bluray/UHD menus via a BDMV folder structure over the network using a little free utility for the oppo (bdmodifier 2.0), it plays back full dolby vision menu structure to. All this using the latest official oppo firmware and not some jailbroken firmware.

Dune did say they will release the UHD menu support in few days so let's see what that brings.

Thanks

To bad a 203 cost $1000+ now.

Dune need to prioritise these before developing and delivering additional fluff that I doubt many people care about.

We aren't the priority. Dune is a Russian product and their priority is that market, not the US. Just because you have no use for a feature doesn't mean it's pointless.

Cool, since you agree with him I assume you've put yours in a garbage can, took a picture and posted it here, and then said Dune was "dead". But that's not trolling?!

I'm still using yaDIS. Been using it for several years on all my Dune products, including the 4K Pro. I have no need for the Dune scraper. I do understand why some would want them to continue developing it though. If they ever include auto scraping, I might switch over.
