Yes to all your requirements.
But they are also very pricey.

But if this is real : these features will be included into next versions ,be patient! If DUNE promised this function, they will implemented in the future. This function is good, but not vital!

First priority must be correct framerate. Get the basics right. Then they can work on features like uhd menu support, and whatnot.

I absolutely agree!! Correct framerate and correct HDR Metadata should be number 1 priority.

Yep, totally agree. Then work on the 'fluff' once this is done.

This is the Dune HD Pro 4K forum. Some people never learn.

Oh, and Oppo stopped selling these players, and you need clandestine firmware to make it do all the things you say. It will not do it out of the box. So your recommendation is invalid.

You need to do some serious research.

Yes Oppo are no longer producing the player, but they are available and still in firmware support. Recently added support for HDR10+.

Standard out of the box (not clandestine) firmware supports playback of mkv, HD/UHD blu-Ray menus from BDMV folders, seamless branching, forced subs.

All that’s required is a copy of BDMV modifier, nothing special, generally available (not clandestine). It runs against the BDMV folder and modifies one file to permit AVCHD playback.

Oh, yes and it fully supports bitstream.

Where do you get your information ?
it’s seriously flawed.

How much is the price of the dune max and ultra. That is the joke.

Oppo 203 is a fantastic player and hence why the use them in the dolby studios for dolby vision content, shame they came to an end but they do support all the hdr formats and ability to sdr to dolby vision hdr from. TS, m2ts and I think mp4.

Now back on the dune thread.
@kadqs has there been any news on the uhd menus you mentioned and also the Netflix 5.1 patch?

Thanks

Yes @kadqs you have been a great insider source for a long time. On 1st April you said UHD menu support was a two or three days away. 18 days later!

Yesterday I changed the HDMI Audio from bitstream to pcm. In the system settings(android) lpcm multichannel is set. However, the dune only outputs pcm in stereo (even with 5.1 content). Have you already noticed that? Is there a way to change that?

Not, they don't have the license to do that.
The smart series had a "clandestine" upgrade to do it, but it's gone forever.
I use an Oppo 203 HDMI input to do that. The Oppo UI is really bad, although it does work, so I use the Dune to browse and the Oppo to output LPCM to my processor which does not support modern codecs. It's the best sounding processor on the market (A Goldmund), but they skimped on the license too.

It is not about if it can do it, but how well it can do it. Non-technical people mostly don't understand that there can be differences in sound, even if it is digital...

I bet most people wouldn't even hear the difference between bitstream and LPCM with their home theater setup

First, garbage in, garbage out. Second, a good processor like thew Arcam can do wonders. Third, the difference is not that obvious if you have hi end gear.

LPCM on HDMI has more jitter than on coax, and jitter (direct, or due to reflections caused by impedance mismatch, which is why it's recommended not to use a cable shorter than 1m) is the only thing that can affect sound all others things (the DAC) being equal.

In theory, if the processor reconstructs the LPCM for the bitstream, it can lead to less jitter.

In practice, this can be heard only on high end systems, and good processors are also good at handling jitter.

So, difference between bitsream and LPCM with a good enouhg processor should be null.

That's just my opinion, I actually never heard a good processor that can decode advanced audio codecs. Meridian stuff for example (again, my subjective opinion) sounds awful despite its high end price and statute in the high end audio community.

Here is an interesting article that shows that HDMI can have worse objective measurements than coax, because of jitter:

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/f...erformance.56/

Whether or not it's possible to hear that in a blind testing is another matter. People generally fail in blind audio tests, including myself.

My subjective scientifically unproven opinion is that subtle differences can be only felt over a long time listening, not by switching constantly between A and B. I have no proof of that, just 40 years of using high end gear and reaching several time the conclusion that different gear sound vastly different. Again, no proof, just consistency over a long period of time.

There is unfortunately so much snake oil in high end audio, that its background noise and the subjective opinion I have that blind A/B tests are not appropriate because they don't represent the sensation you get with prolong real life listening makes it very difficult to sort things out.

But something tells me all this is vastly off-topic and extremely controversial subject in this thread.

Exactly, so far it's loaded every 4k image I've had quickly and flawlessly, of course imma test every title I have. Bravo Dune! Way not to listen to the haters and give up on your products and reputation.
