As a longtime Smart B1 user, I just picked up an HD Pro 4K. Most things are working just fine, and I think it's a neat evolution.

However, DVD picture quality is absolutely terrible, with poor color, pixilation and aspect ratio handling. It looks like when you try to play a DVD/VOB the Pro 4K uses some sort of Android DVD decoder, as opposed to the "not quite Sigma but still OK" internal Dune decoder for most of the other formats.

Is there any fix or workaround for this? It looks like you can't change the decoder specifically for DVD.

Thanks for the fast reply.

PS. Can you share the formula for the repeated frame?

Of course - it's:

1/(x - (24000/1001)) in seconds

Where x is the framerate in fps

(in the chart above, the repeat rate is in minutes as a decimal, eg. 1.39 = 1 min 23s approx.)
zombie10k and vadergr like this.

Zidoo Z9S | Dune Pro 4K | HDFury Vertex | 32TB mirrored storage
Denon AVC-X8500H | JVC DLA X7000 | Screen Research 9ft multi aspect ClearPix 2 ISF screen
3 x PMC IB2S fronts | 4 x PMC Wafer 2 rears | 4 x PMC Wafer 1 ceiling | 2 x M&K SS550 THX height | Rel Stentor III
A pair of slippers, a comfy sofa and a glass of 16 year old single malt

Thank you for verifying, I guess they didn't get the Vertex after all..

I was going to dust off the dune for this update but will wait to see if they fix this. i've been using the player that can't be discussed here and it's been such an excellent experience I bought a 2nd.

I have noticed the same shortcomings. I have contacted Dune support about this. Please do the same. Squeaky wheel and such...

Nope, doesn't look like it.

Glad that player's working out well - I never took the plunge, but I'm using the Dune for 2K and Zidoo for 4K which I reckon is the best of both worlds and so far, bomb proof.

and to properly playback DVD content one would keep an additional old Dune player around .... pretty sad....

oh... and for Netflix... that requires another box....(not that I care about this one though).

Funnily enough I do! An old Solo, but that's in another room just on a TV.

That's good news. I've thought about doing that but have held off based on some of the postings at other sites. Maybe I'll jump in. I assume there is still no movie wall?

Not to go off-topic much further, but from what I understand this player behaves exactly (PQ, etc.) like the player it tries to mimic, sans the tray....so, it only comes with a very basic UI and no movie wall.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained eh?

I'm a sucker for a good movie wall though and that's the only thing that stops me - unfortunately given the source, it'll never happen on that box.

Yes, that was my question...

In the dark underbelly of hardware from the East, sometimes things are or become available that you just don't know about. So at the risk of going OT, I asked. I've done a lot of work in China. Before we could finish our installation and commissioning of some new western technology there, they had replicated it and installed it in a new building a mile down the road and had it up and running.

Zidoo may be bomb proof for MKV but...……..
My experience of the Zidoo for 4K is it's glitchy, has issues with seamless branching and forced subs don't work (using BDMV folders).
(Same for HD Blu-ray too).

The Pro 4k plays HD/UHD BDMV folders flawlessly with the latest beta firmware.

I have done the same again last night, factory reset, automatic setup) and installed the Netflix from the Android App folder (it said downloading app) and the same crashes still occur on 5.1.

To be fair, it works very well and even ports skin changes across too which is really nice.

Doesn't play nicely with yaDis top level navigation but it works perfectly with yaDis shortcuts.

I'll amend that comment I think - it works adequately with yaDis shortcuts - it doesn't show info screens and you can't drill into categories, eg Directors, Actors etc without going into list view and even then it's extremely inelegant and unintuitive.

Obviously the app doesn't follow the <dune_folder.txt> syntax in the same ways that skins do. Shame.

Dune HD Pro 4K (Ultra) Thread

Something interesting happened but maybe its normal...

I tried to open an AVI file like many times before but with the new beta, it said downloading necessary files to play the video file..

When it was done, it launched Kodi to play the AVI. Now every time i play an AVI file it launches kodi. When the file is done, kodi closes and goes back to the dune skin...

Is this normal?
