update for my previous post above this:: Simple reinstall did not work, but somehow installing Netflix from the Aptoid store (it only supports 480p), THEN reinstalling the one that come with the Dune HD Pro solved the problem and all is ok as before.

Is the video settings menu also disabled in bluray menu mode? I cant seem to invoke the menu with contrast, brightness and color whenever i play a full bluray internal player

Just do a basic calibration with e.g. AVCHD or Spears & Munsill on the player, and calibrate your display. After that there is no need to change the settings on the player, for any source.

Meaning the source of the calibration playing on the Dune 4k plus?

Get a copy of AVSHD: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-d...libration.html
And adjust contrast, brightness, color on the player according to the patterns, while brightness contrast etc on the actual display is 0, midposition, default etc.
Or leave it as is on the player and adjust on the display, if the display stores settings per input and you only use this input for the Dune.

Without a colorimeter or spectrometer this is basically all you can do. Otherwise do a grayscale, gamma calibration etc on the display.

Uhm, yes there is.. If i find a movie too dark i might want to increase brightness in that one film or scene.. You again asume other people are idiots, and just because YOU dont need the settings or think there is only 1 true setting, dont mean others don't need to use the settings or just want the functionality..

I know i am hoping for too much, but how about FOR ONCE you answer the question asked without being a smartass?? Why do you feel the need to lecture people on every single question? Why do you asume my display isnt alreay calibrated? Which in fact it is,but that doesnt change the fact that i find Hobbit mine scenes too dark in calibrated mode,as well as a lot of other scenes..

The question stands.. Are the video settings disabled in bluray menu mode? If not,how do i access them?

I did not invent calibration nor the fact that moviemakers use ISF calibrated camera's and processing. So if you don't like what i say, just do whatever you like. I don't care. You want to rape your movie? Be my guest.
But your answer tells us you don't understand calibration and tv settings at all. So don't blame me, and start educating yourself. This forum should be a good start. Enjoy!

Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how entitled and arrogant some user here can be.. I knew i shouldnt have taken you off my ignore list as you apparently cannot contain your ego and just be helpful and answer simple questions.. Welcome to my ignore list in perpetuity..

And maybe a third time is the charm? Is the video settings disabled in bluray menu mode? If not,how do i access them?

You'll enjoy this thread a lot more putting a certain user on your ignore list!

I only see those posts when someone quotes him, but it's much more palatable that way.

It is implemented....
Version "180606_1345_r13"

- New feature: Picture settings (brightness, contrast, saturation, hue) can
now be adjusted during video playback, when using Dune HD internal
player, same as on Sigma-based Dune HD models.

I’m sure I’ve had it working, but it may have been when playing the main movie (not from the blu-Ray menu).
Hit Setup during playback to access picture controls.

Been pleasantly surprised on 4K UHD remix playbacks on Dunes usb 2 connections-had filled my usb 3 and sata drives connected - theoretically transfer of usb 2 should be adequate but real world is always
different story at times- will report back if notice any troublesome titles in future but smooth as butter in titles tested so far -

Yes,it works when playing movie only and mkv but not when using full menu internal player.. I only use the internal player though, havent tried external player. Really strange they disable these settings as well as time search when playing full menus.

And thank you for answering the actual question asked.

Maybe because their (very successful) Blu-Ray implementation on the Pro 4K is a rework of the player used on Sigma-based Dune HD models, they haven’t yet implemented the additional controls. Hopefully they will at some point.

For those guys who still have a Dune D1 or similar with Sigma-based model and Dune Pro 4K have already made a comparison playing the same 1080p video in both players ?
I really would like to know if there is a difference in image quality between players.
Thanks

Unless you intend to play 4k Blu-ray on the Pro 4K, there is nothing to be gained by switching from a Sigma based model.

Thanks for your reply, but I didn’t understand...........are you saying Dune Pro 4K is not good enough for BD 4K ?
My question in last post is related on some posts that I read while ago saying Realtek does not produces a good image like Sigma.
Now I am in doubt if Dune Pro 4K is good for BD 4K

No, that's the biggest reason to get the Pro 4K! The D1 would probably be better for 1080 content but when I did testings when I still had my D1, it was negligible.

For 4K playback, the Pro 4K is very good.

The Pro 4K is excellent for 4K blu-Ray playback, but your original question was whether You would notice a difference playing 1080p.

I was simply saying that it would not be worth moving to the Pro 4K if you were hoping to see a difference with 1080p.

Thanks man.
That’s right, I just would like to know whether there is a difference in 1080p between both players based on a doubt between Realtek and Sigma chipsets.
My D1 is great for 1080p, I know that very well, and the way to compare both players and both chipsets is playing a 1080p video.
Now I understood every single word.
Thanks again.

Hi, got my Dune 4K pro and just wondering which hdmi cables I need for uncompressed 4K HDR playback? Is the cable that came with the player ok to use? I may need to buy 2 as I need one for my receiver to the television.
Also what do I set my chroma sub sampling settings to?
When I was watching Pet Semetary (2019) it was outputting at 4:4:4 8bit HDR. Is this right? Or should it be 10bit, and is it limited because of the cables?

I've noticed quite a few recent discs with BD-J menus do not play properly on my Dune Solo 4k. Has the BD engine in the Pro 4k seen any improvements in that regard? I'm assuming updates for the Solo aren't going to happen anymore.

Which titles have issues and how is playback affected ?
No issues with BD-J so far on the Pro 4k.
Dune release firmware updates for earlier models, so updates for the Solo 4k should continue.

Cheap as chips at £3.51 a pair for 3 feet cable! I needed four but didn't spot I was ordering packs of two - so ended up with eight certified cables for about £11!!
