What is the average rate of ripping?
Is it typical for it to start real slow then get a bit faster later on? 1x -> ~4x

The fastest I got for The Martian Extended was 4x, maybe as high up as 6x, with my new WH16NS40.
Conventional BR seems rip as fast as before with my original WH16 drive, maybe.

Don't know the exact rate, it takes me 60-90 minutes per UHD vs 20 minutes for a BR.

Took me about 48 minutes to rip Blade Runner Final Cut, about 45gbs.
Selected only the main audio track, commentaries, and English subtitles. The average probably was 4x, with a short peak of 5.5x.

No. However, IMO, best to not do Windows updates automatically anyway. Certainly Microsoft possesses enough chutzpah (and hubris) to attempt it.

Same as any other ISO. Open the file in MakeMKV, rip the main film.

I have ripped The Martian Extended Edition twice and each time I have audio drop outs in the same place. The only other title I have ripped is Blade Runner Final Cut and what I have listened to so far seems to be fine.

The disc for The Martian plays fine.

I have successfully converted the Atmos track for Blade Runner to flac for analysis but eac3to fails everytime with TM Atmos track.

Was your source from the original disc? Others have commented about issues with eac3to.exe and Atmos tracks from UHD. I am trying to get a few sources to help provide feedback to madshi.

Yes, I own all the discs I am ripping.
Purchased The Martian from Amazon a few months ago.

The disc does not exhibit the audio drop out during one example that occurred on two separate rips. At 1:13 and between 8-11 seconds.
My second rip of the disc was saved directly to an SSD and the same issue. Previously had played the first rip from my PC and off an external HDD connected to my Oppo 203. There were several other instances of audio drop outs later all in the original file.

My eac3to is an older standalone installation from a few years ago and I was only using it to convert the audio track to flac to analyze the waveforms in Audition.

Currently using the most recent version of MakeMKV with a Sept build WH16NS40.

I have been trying to use eac3to to convert the Atmos track on The Martian Extended Edition to THD+AC3 in order to build an ISO for The Martian 3D with Atmos (as I have previously done with Fantastic Beasts and Wonder Woman), and it also fails every time. In my Internet research it appears the problem stems from the seamless branching used to put both the theatrical and extended versions on one disc. There are about 6-7 bytes of corrupt data on the entire 5GB+ file, but eac3to is unable to overlook those.

I'm not sure just exactly what to copy and paste from that rather long line of numbers and characters for each movie. Would you be kind enough to give a verbatim, complete example of the copied line, or portion of the line, of characters and numbers that you would then paste into the txt or cfg file? (If you prefer, you can make up a fictional line of numbers and characters with say "How to Save the World" as the title of the movie.)

Thanks.

This is what each line of the text in my file looks like (I had originally copied it over verbatim but changed my mind on doing that)

I see some of those drives are not triple layer capable, How can they read a UHD blu-ray?
I have the pawtec ultra slim BDXL up to 100GB drive that uses the Mat****a BD-MLT UJ265 internally, Any chances that it will work?

If you have the drive, just give it a try and report your findings!

I have had no luck ripping Blade Runner... What drive do you have? i have a new LG 16NS40 manufactured date 09/2017... I get a physical disc error but it plays fine on my UHD player.

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

tried another disc, The Martian (Extended Edition). While I was able to rip it, there was a lot of noise in the resulting file. Also, the image was dark with no color saturation.. see attached... MakeMKV takes about an hour to do a disc. if the end files are like this, it is of no use for me...

Makemkv doesn't change the source video.

Something in your playback chain isn't configured properly.

It looks like an HDR film that you're viewing on an SDR screen. Poor contrast is expected, it needs appropriate processing.

Colorspace is incorrect on whatever you're using to playback the file.

Noise could be caused by not having enough bandwidth, assuming you are streaming over a network. Make sure all of your switches are Gigabit. Most older 100 MB switches aren't able to stream full UHD discs. I discovered that the hard way.

You have used BRUHD-PU3 buffalo drive successfully with MakeMKV? I thought only UHD "friendly" and not "official" drives worked with makemkv. I have the Buffalo drive and have not been able to rip any discs with MakeMKV. DeUHD worked though.

Incorrect color spacing or HDR-conversion could be part of the problem, but it's not all of the problem. The distortion you're seeing on the Fox logo is something that tends to happen with Fox discs (usually the newest releases), at least until Makemkv issues a firmware update to correct it. I don't know what it is--my guess is some additional layer of encryption that Fox puts on their discs. Or maybe it's just an error. I usually can't successfully rip a Fox movie until it's been out for a month or so, which is about how long it takes for Makemkv to issue the next firmware update.

I realize the Martian has been out longer for a month, but the UHD ripping side of Makemkv is still in its infancy.
