Check to make sure the 3D doesnt default to Right eye sync instead of Left Eye (majority of titles). I had that happen with Kong Skull Island when I remixed with Atmos and the image looked like it was ghosting super hard and the depth was weird, I had to remux with right eye sync checked.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here, but got an email from DVDFab :

World's Easiest UHD Drive Firmware Downgrading Tool
Backing up the legally purchased 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs for home use is what every 4K Blu-ray lover will do. To do that, a 4K UHD drive compatible with popular UHD backup tools is a must. However, if a 4K UHD drive is natively manufactured or personally flashed with the latest firmware, then it may not be able to work with that sort of software tools.
Panic Not! DVDFab has a solution on the way — we're working on an extremely easy-to-use Firmware Downgrading Tool to help you dump the current firmware on your 4K UHD drive, so that you can make legal backups of your expensive and precious 4K Blu-ray discs.
This upcoming handy utility will be surprisingly friendly to non-tech savvies, even green hands. You don't need a profound knowledge to perform the downgrading process. And we already have the first batch of 4K UHD drives that will make it to the supported list:
• LG WH14NS40 (internal, SVC code: NS50) Firmware: 1.03
• LG WH16NS40 (internal, SVC code: NS50) Firmware: 1.03
• LG BH16NS40 (internal, SVC code: NS50) Firmware: 1.03
• LG UH12NS40 (internal) Firmware: 1.01
• LG BH16NS55 (internal) Firmware: 1.03
• LG BH14NS58 (internal) Firmware: 1.01
• LG BH16NS58 (internal) Firmware: 1.01
• LG WH16NS58 (internal) Firmware: 1.V1, 1.V2, 1.V5
• ASUS BC-12B1ST b (internal, manufactured 2015+) Firmware: 3.01
• ASUS BW-16D1HT a (internal, manufactured 2015+) Firmware: 3.02, 3.03
• LG WH16NS60 (internal, recommended) Firmware: 1.01
Tips: It's better to grab one of the above-mentioned drives in advance, just in case they run out of stock.

Cheers

Don't be afraid to crossflash those LGs to the ASUS 3.01 firmware and enjoy the higher ripping speed the ASUS firmware offers.

The ripping speed seems much slower than blu ray rips.

I still don't understand why there is a 103 version in the Clean_NS50_compatible_firmwares file if it isn't supposed to be used. THat seems completely backwards to me.

You are definitely on to to something.

I ticked the "Use base video stream for right eye" on the BluRay Tab of tsMuxeR and tried again - but it seemed the same. BUT - I flipped my 3D glasses around (left eye with right lens....) - and voila - 3D image was correct.

Can you clarify if I ticked the correct box in the correct software?

I actually think it is clear that this is part of their paid services and not something free. Also, I think it is being targeted at the less tech savvy, so I could see for those who don't want to go the DIY route posted here why this would be appealing.

Yeah that's the right box I believe, I remember having to try multiple times to get it to work. I got it working on a mkv file, and I just took that file and tried m2ts and it was wrong again, so I am still working on m2ts for oppo playback on that file.

If you want to confirm it so you are working towards the right issue, you can use MediaInfo on the file, go to text view, then check this area, example from Kong.

Video
ID : 1
ID in the original source medium : 4113 (0x1011)
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : Stereo [email protected] / [email protected]
MultiView_Count : 2
MultiView_Layout : Both Eyes laced in one block (right eye first)

I am rebuilding my MKV to M2TS now, I will update if I get it working this time.

The MKV file shows the same description you have in Bold. But the M2TS files don’t - and I have tried ticking the box a few times, with no joy so far.
I wish you luck - please post back if you resolve.

IME... and I only work with MKV files....ticking the box does nothing to change the actual MVC coding of the video file. It may now "say" left eye first after remuxing or redoing the video file and then checking it with Mediainfo... but when playing the file, you still have to manually swap the eyeview. Certain titles are just this way.... But, I haven't experimented with changing it to ISO or other file formats... the number of titles that need the eyeview to be swapped is quite small in my collection.

Clean firmware should be in the zip posted earlier in the thread (with the rest of the “clean firmwares”. I think they had almost every good model in there.

Yeah there’s no dump of a
BU30N I’m not even sure the drive exists but I have a couple originals on their way from China. Bet their counterfeit. Lol.

Hey guys serious question: what is the recommended way to play back bdmv folders? Specifically the type created by MakeMKVs “full disc backup” process.

I put mine on a portable hard drive and plug it into the Oppo which does a wonderful job of handling the files. It’s exactly as if you’d put the disc in the tray. In fact if you stop file playback and put in the disc it will ask you if you’d like to continue from where you left off!!

Suggesting folks pick up an Oppo solely for file playback is not a realistic solution these days so I was wondering what the next choice would be.

Thanks.

I wouldn't rule that out, as there's a large pre-owned market out there.

I'm hoping I can get one of them to build a simple little box or make that code open source and post it somewhere. I know both of those ideas make me sound like I've been on the legalized weed out here but I assure you I'm straight.

Ok, after having bought a drive a year ago or so, I thought I would finally start ripping some of my UHD discs. I haven't even used my drive before, but after plugging it in, it doesn't even have a DVD Region code assigned to it. I'm in the US, but for everything to work the way it should, does it matter what I set the Region code to or is it necessary for me to set it at all? I'm assuming I would set it for the US since all my discs are US discs. I just don't want to do anything that might prevent my drive from working.

JVC RS4500K, Paladin DCR, Lumagen Radiance Pro, LG OLED W7, OLED E7, OLED C6, Sony A1E, Samsung QLED Q9F, QLED Q7F, Vizio P75c1, Marantz AV8805, Emotiva XPA-7 Gen 3, Integra DRC-R1, Anthem MRX 720, Oppo 203, Sunfire TGA-7401, Outlaw 5000, Triad Silver 7.1.4 Atmos setup, SVS PB16 Ultra, PSA 3601,SVS PB-13 Ultra, 31 Sonance VP88R, 6x6 Control4 4K HDR AV matrix, Control4 8 Zone AMP, Control4 EA-5, Control4 EA-1, QNAP TVS-882 & TS-451+

No region settings necessary with UHD 4K Blu Rays. You're clear for takeoff sir!

I can't remember... Does the firmware 'tweak' reset the DVD region code counter?

I'm assuming I would set it for the US since all my discs are US discs. I just don't want to do anything that might prevent my drive from working.
I never set the region code for any of my drives. Whether UHD drives or 2k BD drives. It has never caused me any issues ripping 2k BDs or UHD BDs.

I read the first few pages of the thread and then skipped to the last two, but there's too much in between for me to wade through.

I've bee using my LG BE14NU40 external R/W drive to rip blurays with makemkv for a few years now, but just ordered my first UHD Blurays for my new LG UBK90 player and want to take advantage of Black Friday specials to upgrade to a new external drive for ripping UHD Blurays.

I've seen the list from the first post from a year ago:

LG BE16NU50
LG WH16NS40
LG BH16NS40
ASUS BW-12B1ST
ASUS BC-12D2HT
ASUS BW-16D1HT
LG BH16NS55
LG WH16NS58
ASUS BW-16D1H-U A201
LG BU30N

Have there been any additions to the list since then? Seems as though most of the drives are internal with the exception of the LG BE16NU50 - is that the recommended external drive or is there another one to consider?

Any advice on the best external UHD-capable external drive to pick up over the next couple weeks appreciated...

[edit: seems as though the LG BE16NU50 is out of stock everywhere, and the DVDFab link now lists the LG BP60NB10 and the Buffalo BRUHD-PU3 as the only 'UHD Official' external drives (with the Buffalo being recommended).

Anyone have any experience with these two drives? Is the Buffalo the better one to get?]

Just buy an internal and put it into an external enclosure (voila “external” drive) that’s what many of us have done.

Sounds like some screwing around but if it's easy and it's cheaper (or more available), why not?

Is there an internal drive that is most-used / recommended on the board?

Any recommendations on a decent budget 'enclosure' appreciated as well...

I got three of the Vantec NST-536S3-BK enclosures for my three drives I rip UHD BDs with.
I got mine from ebay. With the current 15% off at ebay, the enclosure would be around $39. And maybe Newegg has it on sale.

EDIT: I see Amazon has it for $36 when you apply their $5 off coupon that shows up on the page.

I think the LGs are popular, haven’t been keeping up with things. I also know there are people who sell “ready” drives for close to the retail price if you’re uncomfortable with the flashing process (go to makemkv forums). I picked up an LG and flashed it to an ASUS via an old laptop I have. As far as price goes it works out to the same or cheaper than an external and these days it’s extremely hard to find a compatible drive so flashing is usually a “must”.
