FWIW, after using my ASUS BW-16D1HT for several months it decided to burn up it's power connector last Saturday. Smoked up the whole room and took out one of my hard drives as well. (it was on the same power cable) This happened within 10 minutes of starting my computer. I figure the drive shorted out but who knows how.
Thankfully I have a RAID 10 setup with 4 HDD's and after replacing some burnt cabling she's up and running again. Still have to replace the bad drive and re-build the array though.
I don't know if this has been an issue with this particular drive but you might want to keep an eye on your computers for a bit after start-up, just in case.
The drive you got from me? What in the heck happened? Those things don't draw that much juice. Do you still have the carcass?
