Except they all have some sort of limits. Like the Sonys that won't play TrueHD in a .mkv container. TrueHD requires a m2ts container. At least TSmuxer is now open source so hopefully some enterprising folks will get it all fixed up for UHD-BD compliant output shortly.

Yes, it's a Windows 10 Pro system. I'll take a look at that software should I try to give it another shot in the future.

Yes, with any luck it will become "fully" open source anytime now. But any new development tweaks will take time to implement.

You won't get 46GB on a BD-RE disc. Maybe you will with a BD-R 50.

Good info! Actually, I got it work. Sort of. I was able to mux (after some failed attempts), then ran TSM2UHD. The resulting disc had stutters, and wasn't really watchable because of them. But at least it was recognized as a UHD BD w/HEVC by my OPPO. So it was a decent experiment.

Ah good to know. I de-selected a several foreign language tracks and it got down to ~30GB.

Any drive can be external with an enclosure or adapter.

Yes. My three drives I use for ripping UHD BDs are just internal drives I installed in USB 3.0 enclosures. Whether the drives are connected to a SATA port on the PC or connected over the USB external enclosure, ripping speeds have been the same.

okay , but my question is which currently available that is suitable for the task at hand, I did a search randomly from the ones on the first page and people mention that some came with an update already installed that made them useless and it's hard to according them to revert from such update... so is there a specific drive I should look into right now as plug and play? Thanks.

I think all of the drives currently being made need to be flashed to do what you want (to be UHD friendly) but it is honestly very painless.

I bought this drive BW-16D1HT a few months ago and it was easy to flash. The makemkv forum is where you want to go for current info on this topic.

If you don’t want to flash the drive then you’ll need to head over The the makemkv forums and buy from a third party that sells unflashed or preflashed drives. Any drive bought now (as stated) will need to be flashed as we are long past the period of “good” drives unless you get one of the available “real” UHD drives that is compatible now.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic. I was wondering if anyone knows of some music converting software that I could use to convert .m4p files to .mp3? I only have about 10 files to convert but most of those I've tried want to charge $30 to $40 for the software. I hardly ever convert music files but need to do it for these few songs for a class reunion that will be coming up soon.

I could be wrong about this, but .m4p is the apple audio file is it not, if so you can use itunes to make a mp3 copy, that will end up in your itunes folder in Music, in windows i believe,

Ive done it myself previously, so know its possible,

Yes it is but these .m4p files were sent to me so that I didn't have them in my iTunes library, hence the problem. It won't even add the .m4p files to my library.

Apple created the .m4p file extension (not to be confused with .mp4) to highlight the fact that such audio files are copyright protected with Apples 'Fairplay' DRM.

Regular 'unprotected' audio files with an .mp4 or .m4a file extension can be converted from one format to another quite easily!

As mentioned above those files have DRM. So pretty sure you won't be able to convert them until that is stripped. Although when I searched m4p converter plenty of stuff came up.

Yes, I also did a search and have installed a ton of programs but they all had limitations as far as file size and time restrictions unless you buy them.

Ok, so back to the media player topic for a second. I recommended the Zapiti all out earlier, but I do use a Zidoo X8 in my bedroom ... and it just got a major update. I had never even bothered with their "home theater" app before (I'd like to think I check it out and it seemed too clunky to bother using), but with the update I saw that it was now "home theater 2.0" and WOW. It's in the running for best movie interface yet. It does the grouping like Zapiti does, adding drives is a piece of cake, it autoupdates the folders, AND!!!... you can set default subtitles to "external" (which is extremely useful for getting forced subtitles). Not to mention, it's very snazy looking. Solid system if you're looking for a less expensive media player.

Hi!

Google "buy UHD friendly drive" or "drives"

Whoops, Googles got some weird caching going on

OK if this gets pulled I'm sorry
