Let me be clear about something. I have many streaming devices. A couple of smart TVs, 3 Rokus, PlayStation, and of course PCs. I mainly got the ATV4K because it would incorporate my iTunes movies and music as well as the eventual ability to do Dolby vision and Atmos together. Roku only has hdr and Atmos. Plus, I was able to get the ATV4K for $105.00.
My purpose on this thread and forum section, was to consider going with the beta upgrade to 12 to get Atmos earlier than the fall. Fortunately, I ask a lot of questions first, and people like snowman and others pointed out some of the drawbacks. Hence, why I decided to hold off on the beta.
But when I asked originally, I had no idea that vudu was the ONLY app that would do Atmos on the ATV4K. My TVs internal apps will do Dolby vision and Atmos, e.g. Netflix. I’m not a fan of internal apps on the tv. So I was hoping the ATV4K with beta 12 would do it. Eventually it will. But again, I had no idea that vudu was the only app available on the ATV4K that would do vision and Atmos together.
As such, I have no need obviously to remain on the forum. There’s a lot of great info here. And I assume those who were wanting to do beta have already gotten on board. Any late comer, like me, is probably better off waiting 2 months for the production firmware. I wasn’t trying to dog anyone for using vudu. And if I had known prior that vudu was the only app on the ATV4K that could add Atmos to vision, I most likely would never have posted to begin with. I still was going to buy the ATV4K. For $105 and the iTunes and other advantages. Sorry if I wasted anyone’s time or patience. But for others lurking, it probably helped them realize the limitations of the beta 12 firmware. So thanks a lot again for clarifying some of my concerns and helping me decide to wait on the production firmware. And again, sorry for the vudu conflict.
