Netflix still looks better (brighter) in HDR than Dolby Vision with 12.1.1 Beta.

What would surprise me is a FW that actually solves the problem I'm having.

But, I think the problem I'm having is actually in the iTunes movies that I'm having trouble with so I don't think the FW is the answer to my issue.

I'm glad it's being updated often though.

If you mean time to public beta it's been the same day for the last few.

I might type 2K for 1080p.

Feature Request 21:9 Aspect Ratio option

Hi,

I summited a feature request for 21:9 Aspect Ratio option.

21:9 or 2.33:1 is the native AR of many beloved movies such as Jaws.

I would like to leave my projector zoomed to 21:9 and have all other AR content window boxed into that shape. Exactly the way old source devices used to letterbox widescreen movies for 4:3 shaped displays.

The coding to make the happen is trivial because for years many old devices did this type of processing to fit 16:9 content onto 4:3 displays. So the "know how" to accomplish this is already known.

If anyone else likes to submit beta feedback and would consider asking for this feature as well I would appreciate it.

thank you,

Brian

Here's what I usually do....about 10am PT I check the developers public accessible site for the current developer releases then about 1pm PT I check for the public release by doing an upgrade check on my Apple TV's. Today I didn't see anything on the developer site until after 1pm PT... So far have not seen the public beta 2 release. The only reason I even mention the Developer release is as a heads up that a Public Beta may come shortly thereafter.

As has been mentioned anyone that wants "real-time" updates can simply follow the [Apple Release Page] (Atom format). Recently the public beta releases have been pushed within a few hours of developer availability. Today's timestamp was:

I might type 2K for 1080p.

Nothing new from VUDU beyond their acknowledgement their APP is the problem with audio sync issue and their "free" programs. Tried it with the newest beta and problem still exists.

Based on my experience with VUDU getting them to admit it is THEIR app was a milestone. Getting them to fix it? Probably easier to get to Mars.

Well,

it's the with the free stuff so clearly not a priority.

Do you have anything else that can access vudu? ... I only ask because I have a couple of Roku's that would solve that if I wanted to watch something in the meantime.

I can access VUDU with multiple devices. That's not an issue. Also there's other things about the VUDU app on the Apple TV 4K that need addressing. This is just one symptom of that reality....

The "free" stuff actually is a priority for VUDU. They generate revenue from the commercials.

Prime

I am happy to announce that Amazon Prime video is now transmitting in Atmos. Jack Ryan UHD is now in Dolby Atmos. I don't know if that was enabled after the last beta update or the prior one. Can anyone else confim?

Atmos and more multi-channel audio is independent of the beta release. See this post in the main thread from 2-Nov-2018 [Jack Ryan in Atmos]

I might type 2K for 1080p.

There's a new beta.

(Hoping it fixes some bugs.)
(Didn't fix the issue I have but hopefully it made some positive changes.)

Always hopeful the newest beta will fix some real problems. This one has taken while longer than usual so I"m hoping.

Guess I have to keep waiting. Not sure if they will ever fix the bug with HDR10. At least the beta installed correctly.

I wonder if they changed anything other than the revision number. I can't see any differences.

“Fix the bug with HDR”

If you mean what you’ve been trying to get Apple to acknowledge in your separate thread about the matter I’m not sure why you would think it is mysteriously going to be fixed in their routinely released beta’s. That’s not a realistic expectation.

I'd be happy if Apple fixed the issue with Match Frame Rate, where it actually doesn't output 24.000 fps material as 24.000, but as 23.976, where every 41 seconds, there is a skipped frame.

Happens on lots of material which is native 24.000 fps, like on Netflix with Outlaw King, Bright etc. There are many others.

Yamaha RX-A3060 7.1.4 Receiver [+Sony Power Amp for Rear Height] / Sony KD-65Z9D / JVC HD1 DILA Projector / 90" screen / OPPO UDP-203 UHD blu-ray / Apple TV 4K
Ascension Summoner 3-way Front Speakers / Ascension 3-way Centre Speaker / Peachtree D5 Surrounds / Yamaha NS-555 3-Way Rear Speakers / ERA D4 x 4 Height Speakers / Rythmik Audio F15HP Sub

You're right. I don't know what to expect for that issue. Seems like a big one because newer movies have it while older movies don't. I'm so grateful the Shallows doesn't have the problem.

I actually just hope a new hardware revision of ATV4K or ATV8K or some sort will be the answer. I don't mean to keep bringing it up and I don't mean to keep thinking about it. I can get a new display eventually and that will solve it too.

So help me understand this issue. When I am viewing 24fps content on the ATV with this “bug”, what should I be looking for? Is there a noticeable video glitch every 41 seconds?

The vast majority of source material is 23.976fps and is output correctly at that framerate. Some material is 24fps though and is still output at 23.976fps. You will notice a slight judder or glitch which will be particularly noticeable in panning shots. It’s incredibly off-putting and it’s pretty shameful that Apple haven’t fixed it.

Noticed the general release of tvOS12.1.1 has a newer build number (16K6045) than the Beta 4 release

Disregard this my error.

Perhaps you and Apple have differing interpretations of build numbers. I don't recall that switching to commercial being different but I haven't done it in a long time.

tvOS 12.1.1 beta 4 (16K5045a)
tvOS 12.1.1 (16K45)
iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 (16C5050a)
iOS 12.1.1 (16C50)

I might type 2K for 1080p.
