I seriously dislike the library being moved to the other end of the top menu in the TV app. Watch Now and Library are the things I use the most. I am also annoyed that they have removed the count of movies from the library. Being able to see my total number of movies and how many are 4K is important to me.
I also wish they'd let us turn off sports or kids completely if we don't want them there. Not everyone likes sports or has kids.

It’s not a public beta yet, right?

Yeah,

I had a hard time figuring out why I wasn't having the new UI.

Also I don't like kids or have sports so I agree with wanting to turn those off.

“So far” he said. Lots more betas to come, so many more changes before it hits that 100+ country release mark.

I can’t even toy with it. The previous version of Xcode doesn’t work with 12.2 and the new one won’t install unless you have a minimum of MacOS 10.14 which my iMac won’t support. Bummer.

latest beta gave me the new TV app.

I like it.

One thing I don't like is it no longer tells me how many movies I have and how many 4K movies I have. I don't know how many 4K movies I have in Vudu and now I don't know in iTunes either. I'll miss that but otherwise the new TV app seems nice.

New TV app here. Looks nice. Wants me to rebuy TV shows I have on Amazon IF I want to watch them via the app. Gives me the option to use Amazon Prime. Which I'd use in the first place. But it looks nice.

I think you might get more answers to your question if you provided a short description of the DV issues you are talking about.

Apple TV tvOS public beta releases

Sorry I wrongly assumed folks here were also reading the owners thread.

Here is my issue.

I have mine set to 4K SDR with match range on. DV content will play and DV engages correctly but, when stopping playback and when DV disengages, I get just a black screen. I have to hit the Home button on my TCL TV remote and then choose the input of the ATV to get the picture back.

Also, the remote app on my iPhone no longer sees any of our Apple TVs after updating them all to 12.2.

Wish I could go back to the previous version because everything was working perfectly fine and none of the new features are important to me. Learned my lesson, I’ll never update immediately again.

Noticed last night many of the show summaries presented in the new TV app are incorrect. The summary is an accurate summary but they’ve got it assigned to the wrong season/episode. Some “This one goes with that one” marker in their database/index is snarfed.

They aren't going to add a feature that will be used for piracy 99.9999% of the time.

Internet speeds are increasing worldwide, it’s a matter of time before Netflix and others will roll out HD audio streams. So in the (near) future this feature could be added. Streaming is increasing while physical disc sales are decreasing rapidly.

Until the services do that, there is no incentive for Apple to support this. They just added lossy Atmos support to those same services even-though the streams had been there for years. I don't think the added fidelity of lossless is ever going to woo a streaming provider to eat another 4-5mbps on the audio stream.

I do think they everyone should be sending 1.5mbps DD+(w/ Atmos if available) with 4k streams though.

That percentage seems really extreme. The pirates can still watch the movies with TrueHD anyway and I would say there is a large group of people that would like bitstreaming in general, including myself.

I have over 200 BDs backed up and over 100 of my 4K BDs backed up and while I use my Oppo to play them back most of the time, I would like the option to let my AVR do the decoding.

No real benefit to that though. Infuse purchases the same license from Dolby as your receiver manufacturer does. The Apple TV isn’t converting the losslessly compressed format to an analogue format which is where the high quality components in your receiver might become useful, it’s decoding it to an uncompressed digital format with no loss of quality.

No, there is a benefit and I am not talking about lossy vs. lossless (not sure what "losslessly" is) or analog as the DAC stage comes later. I am talking about the decoding step, which I wish the Apple TV would let my pre-pro and AVRs do rather than decode them internally and pass them in a PCM container.

You will see plenty of posts about how people have to turn up the volume with the Apple TV because Dialnorm metadata is stripped and just how in general people need to turn up the volume with the Apple TV over devices that properly bitstream encoded streams.

I trust my AVRs and Pre-pro to handle audio codec decoding much more than the Apple TV.

It’s the same software algorithm. Or do you think Dolby sold firecore a dodgy codec? Some iTunes streams have a lower volume than their disc counterparts (it’s worth noting that loud doesn’t necessarily equate to better) but there is no difference when playing local content via infuse. I’ve found this to be the case with the previous Apple TV combined with a pioneer lx86 amp and the current Apple TV combined with a Yamaha 3050 and 3070.

Think you mean decoder rather than "algorithm" and yes, it is the same decoder but if I play one of my Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray movies through my Apple TVs playing a TrueHD track being decoded internally and passed via PCM vs. one of my Oppos where the original bitsream is being passed to my devices, there is a difference.

Audio compression algorithms are called codecs. Decoding these compressed formats will also require algorithms and these are made available under license from Dolby. If you’re hearing a difference then something in your chain has chosen to alter these decoding algorithms. It’s possible that this might result in a sound which is better to your ears but it will be different from what the director intended. The other possibility is that your equipment is not properly handling PCM audio.

Sorry to hear that you’re having difficulties with PCM playback. I will accept that bitstream will give users more options and will enable work around audio equipment that struggles with PCM playback.

You've been teaching me a lot, thanks!

Anyway, joking aside, on my three systems I get better performance from players that use a true bitstream signal vs. the Apple TV decoding everything and passing a PCM signal.

Sorry your system struggles to discern the difference.

Data caps are also increasing as well. Now add gaming is about to move to all digital. There is going to be little consumer appetite to keep adding things that will chew up your bandwidth because of artificial caps.

Streaming services are lobbying lawmakers everywhere to fight caps. I doubt they are going to be in a hurry to make their situation worse.
