It's definitely there, though I didn't notice it as much as I have done previously. Probably because I was actually trying to watch the movie. I think I clocked around 10-15 instances where it jumped out at me, which means I only noticed about one in 10 occurence...

Extraction is also a very kinetic action movie, with jerky camera shots which hide the issue.

Yes ... iOS/iPadOS got 13.5. But current tvOS version is 13.4.5.
And there was no 13.4.2/.3/.4 on all platforms.

And as usual with most tvOS updates: No new features or visible differences except for the version number displayed in the system settings.

I guess the Apple tvOS development team is just one guy who is watching Netflix all day long ... on his Nvidia Shield TV.

Lol, it would not surprise me at all.

My own take is that they are saving 24fps support as a selling point for the new AppleTV 4k.....!

You could be right. But on the other hand I don’t think that they consider this a selling point as the majority of people doesn’t know about this and/or just doesn’t care. So I’m pretty sure they won’t even mention 24fps support when they release the new model and we will read nothing about this in the reviews. So someone from us will have to buy one and test it out for us.

But if Apple would really address this issue on the upcoming model and there is no hardware limitation on the current one, maybe they will “backport” this fix to the previous model. Just like the ATV4K got the match content options with tvOS 11.2 and they also brought the match frame rate feature to the previous model (Apple TV HD) with tvOS 11.3. So maybe the release of the new model will make a difference even for the owners of the current model.

if they were ever going to fix it I would guess it would be fixed in the next major tvOS version, 14. nothing to do with new hardware

LOL. It's like going back in time and reading the first page of this thread all over again! (There's always a "next major tvOS version", and it's never fixed in the next version).

I'm not suggesting that they will ever actually fix it, I'm just saying it makes no sense that it would be fixed with new hardware

The availability of support for certain output modes / refresh rates on a device might be a matter of hardware/firmware limits and not be fixable in software.

But I’m no technical expert and might be wrong here.

I highly doubt that the current Apple TV 4K hardware is not capable of playing back 24.000p content, its just a bug that barely anyone notices (other than enthusiasts like us) so Apple is not in a rush to fix it

I hope you are right. Otherwise the situation would be hopeless.

As mentioned the issue is there since 11.2 and wasn’t fixed with tvOS 12 or 13. So what I wanted to say is that the release of the new model might be the little bit of additional motivation for Apple to finally fix this. Without a new ATV on the horizon I wouldn’t have any hope at all for the release of tvOS 14.
