I have a similar new setup but only at 5.1.2. I have a 2nd gen Fire TV since eventually I plan to get a 4k UST projector but i am really hoping that the ATMOS content won't be limited to just those that can output 4K video since there is really no reason to limit audio based on video capabilities.

I am probably going to buy a XBox One X soon just so that I can enjoy some Atmos content since I have heard it does a good job of converting 4K HDR content to 1080p. Really looking forward to hearing some ATMOS content on my relatively new system.

As of 9/1/2018, seems the current Prime Atmos availability status is:
  • Roku Ultra - YES - (Confirmed via Roku Ultra thread)
  • Fire TV 4k - YES - (Confirmed via FireTV 4k thread)
  • Sony UDP-X700 - YES - (Confirmed myself)
  • Tivo Mini 4k - YES - (Surprising! Confirmed myself)
  • AppleTV 4k tvOS 12 Beta - NO - (Confirmed myself)

Overall I'm glad its a wider rollout than Netflix Atmos!

New Bitrates:
EAC3 5.1 @ 640K
EAC3 Atmos @ 728K
AC3 5.1 @ 384K
Where is that information from?

So, translated, does this mean for Netflix:

384 Kbps - Dolby Digital 5.1
640 Kbps - Dolby Digital Plus 5.1
728 Kbps - Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 with Atmos

Annoyingly, on my system with Amazon Prime:
ARC + 5.1 sound = audio lag (although I haven't confirmed yet if it's DD or DD+)
Optical + 5.1 sound = in sync

With Netflix:
ARC + DDPlus 5.1 = in sync
ARC + Atmos = audio lag
Optical + 5.1 sound = in sync

My TV is an LG C8, and my receiver is a Marantz SR5010.

Here's hoping Apple adopts Atmos for Amazon Prime, and there are no lip sync issues. If it all works fine, then maybe I'll grab on one of those and forget about trying to use ARC.

If I understand the info above, then I wonder why the bitrate for AC3 DD5.1 over optical is limited to 384 Kbps. The technical limit is 640 Kbps, and it's not as if they need to use 640 Kbps with every title.

Are you sure about the Sony Blu Ray player? I have the X1000 and it is not playing Jack Ryan in atmos. What did you use to test. Did you do anything in Amazon prime app settings to get atmos? thanks!

Yes, but apparently the x700 only works with HDR turned off. So you only get Atmos XOR HDR, which is not super useful for people who want both. Apparently the x800 gives out both.

Comcast/Xfinity Xi6 is here and running. Ready to host the Prime app and support Atmos and Vision from both Prime and Netflix.

Is that the newer "pendant" FireTV 4K you're referring to? I've never see any evidence that the 2nd Gen version (that has a SD Card slot) supports it. I just tried my AppleTV 4K last night and Netflix worked for Atmos but Prime did not here. Vudu wouldn't because I don't have a 4K projector connected or a cheater to fool it (e.g. HD Fury). All AppleTV movies and Netflix Atmos content played fine. I really don't know why these services (e.g. Vudu) keep conflating 4K with Atmos when they two are separate things. So since I have a 2K/3D projector so I want 5.1 sound instead of 9.1.6 my room can do? Umm...no. I'll give Apple credit there for not doing the same. In fact, some of my "Movies Anywhere" digital copies that don't get upgraded to 4K *DO* get Atmos anyway. Kudos to Apple for not being men's genitals like all the other studios and streaming services that keep trying to push 4K down our throats whether we can find a suitable projector replacement for a reasonable price or not (i.e. I'm not giving up 3D for 4K).

I am late to the party. Still have not gone 4K. However, we have had Atmos for a few years now. To get it, we play Blu-rays...
Last time I checked (Jack Ryan) with our Roku Ultra, their was no Atmos available. To echo the above post, is it possible to get Amazon Prime in 1080p and receive the Atmos codec? If so, is there a setting that needs adjustment?
Thanks

I have found that Atmos and 5.1 is only available when connected to a 4K tv.

While connected to my 1080 tv cannot get Atmos or even 5.1 audio.
Only comes through as stereo.

After I connect it back to the 4K tv and restart the Atv I get Atmos and 5.1 back.

This is when using the new Apple 4K TV

It seems you must have 4K in the Prime App for the new NVidia Shield update to get Atmos with Jack Ryan. I'm using a 2K/3D projector, so I guess I'm out of luck unless I want to spend hundreds on an HDFury. I don't know why these sites keep linking Atmos with UHD when they are not the same thing and have NOTHING to do with each other beyond marketing (and some studios push it with the UHD discs, but at least many UHD BD drives can down-convert to 2K like my LG and I can rip/move the soundtracks if need be with a 4K friendly drive). AppleTV 4K at least gets iTunes and Netflix with Atmos in 2K....
