I too would love to see categories improved in HT2 but I think that's more complicated than fiddling with the SDK - it's rather more involved fundamental coding but certainly doable I reckon.
I wasn't being sarcastic BTW! Anyway looks as if 2.2.78 version is available!

Installed and addresses none of my issues or requests. However the bloody phone app has exactly what I've been asking for - in the Poster Wall - TV and Movies have their own category!!! See screen shot. So why the hell can't they do this for HT2???

Also WTF is "5. Add camera application". Yes there is now a 'Camera' app which crashes when you try to use it.

Yeah, the camera app is hilarious. Not seeing a point in this.

And no mediainfo while scraping, no idea why it is so hard to implement ...

  • Improve handling of Bluray menus – haven’t seen any improvement in last few firmwares.
  • Fix seamless branching in ISO\BDMV– this has improved but still an issue
  • Add correct handling of forced subs in ISO\BDMV
  • Add workable film\tv categories into HT2

Be nice when they get round to some of those - if they ever do!
I suspect that most of your wish list will be the same in December 2019.
Seamless branching either works or it doesn’t.

It's available in the Google play store. Look for Zidoo Controller. That's where I got it from

The last one turns me off so maybe its time to buy the Z9S. I have a JVC RS600 projector, and using the Panny 820, playing Planet Earth and the BT2020 profile--I don't know how colors can get any better Certainly a world of difference when I switch the RS600 Profile to 2020.

If I could PLEASE ask someone who has a projector & Panny 820 with Planet Earth 4k and the latest update 2.2.78 on the Z9S, to compare the 820 to the Z9S using HDR->SDR2020 on both. Hopefully it will look pretty much the same.

Z9S Firmware updates have stopped mentioning forced subs and seamless branching, also, playback of blu-ray menus remains glitchy.
The developers appear to be concentrating on developing functionality.

It looks pretty damn good to me - there is none of the posterisation inherent in the HDR to SDR conversion so that must be in the colour space translation - that was something that happened when they introduced the 3 gamma curves - prior to that there was no posterisation but gamma was too dark needing a crazy gamma of about 1.6 to lift it.

So yes, if you want to use SDR.2020, it works and is now menu selectable - in previous betas it was automatic dependent on EDID.

However, with an RS600 I'd say that the best way to deal with HDR (short of stretching to an LRP for DTM) is to use a Vertex to remove the SEI and import a well designed custom curve.

I have the Z9S set to SDR mapping HDR so everything is mapped out as HDR in BT.2020 and use the vertex in conjunction with my own gamma curve - looks awesome and you don't get the horrific resyncs (unless you change resolution of course, but then I only use the Z9S for 4K).

To be fair, it's not exactly expensive, so I'd say well worth a punt.

Hi guys!

I don't see the Z10 latest update 2.2.78 in the official Zidoo forum. Currently I'm using the 2.2.61. Is this one safe to install or not being official can offer problems?

Thanks!

It's an internal beta that someone on 4pda released without Zidoo's permission - as such it is official but should not be in the public domain.

There's nothing onerous in this release - it doesn't break any already working structures, so I'd say any risk is minimal.

A public beta is imminent which will probably iterate this release but with little or no change.

Accessing my unRAID Server

I finally have a 4K projector... So, now am serious about getting a Z9S.
Most importantly I want to make sure I can access my Lime-Technology unRAID server.
I currently have a Dune Smart D1 and still working well, but does not pass 4K.
Besides movies I'm looking to view my home 4k video and my photos in 4K, which are all stored on my unRAID server.
Is there an app, or access to file structure, maybe a slideshow feature?
I hope the Z9S is the right device for me.

Thanks,
Tom

I've installed both of the unofficial betas - 2.2.65 and 2.2.78. Nothing is broken other than I think seamless branching has taken a step back. Testing on Thor Ragnarok UHD it does not glitch (as on 2.2.61) but actually stops at the first join between M2TS files!

It’s an MKV player, looks like it will remain that way.

The problem with this piecemeal development approach is that the later functionality they are in the process of developing has been injected into an earlier build which was at a different state w.r.t the seamless branching fix.
Just down to poor software version management.

Yes indeed - There's a preinstalled app called Media Center which allows full file level access to play home movies or view pictures. This has a slideshow feature with selectable transitions and music if you wish, or you can just scroll through with arrow keys.

Thanks

I've not tried it in 1080 but it has to output in 1080 SDR.2020 if the input is HDR.2020 regardless of resolution if 1080p and SDR.2020 has been set in the options - there's nothing else it can do.

It's .DTS X

Note the space instead of the colon.

Hey---I'm no longer a fence sitter Yesterday I checked Amazon and the Z9S price was $179. Today I checked and the price was $169 AND a 5% coupon which brought the price down to $160. If you are a fence sitter---- don't wait for Prime Day--they might run out before then.

Turned on my Zidoo Z9S today and it said a firmware 2.2.82 was available. This was new, I have never been able to download firmware via the internet. I always had to download the zip file. Anyway, I guess it's about time.

It shows the change log.

Just down to poor software version management.

my thought too. if i were them, i would stop development for a bit and get the ver control in place and fix all the existing high priority bugs first

Agreed. WTF is the use of a camera app on a media player FFS. Surely there are more pressing issues!
