The problem:

Zidoo does not approve my iMacs SMB shared folder username and password.

However I'm sure the username and password are correct.

Is this known bug in media players/android boxes?

Is there a solution?

Since I installed the V2.2.82 firmware, the player is unstable. Tired of it. It freezes a lot. It works after rebooting the advice, but the crashes are more and more frequent. Does anybody has same problems and what can I do about it?

I like my HT, wine and pretty girls. But...am I the only one

You could try checking out the above link.
Looks like this version has issues, there are suggestions for reverting to a good version 2.2.61

It looks like 2.2.82 went backwards, missing out an earlier fix for seamless branching.
It looks like the developers have poor version control and apply firmware updates on top of earlier versions of the firmware. Maybe there’s more than one set of developers, not coordinating their activities.
I think the Z9s is in the doldrums.

Yes, I haven't tried the latest firmware, but I did make the mistake of loading the one before it. Before that I didn't have any problems with single movie iso's I'd created (playlist with multi m2ts files) but after the prior update, I'd get jerks. I really prefer iso for 3D as I can always burn to a disc properly. I should figure out the prior firmware version and see if I could downgrade it.

There may be a firmware version that minimises multi m2ts playback issues, it depends what you are prepared to live with, but there hasn’t yet been a Z9s firmware version that plays every title containing multi m2ts files flawlessly.

So, it looks like 2.2.82 still hasn’t fixed the multi m2ts file playback issues - Wow
A real disappointment, it has to be said.

About HDR to SDR BT2020, I'm going to do some tests during this weekend.

I have JVC X5500: have I to choose everything in "auto" on Zidoo Z9s except HDR mode, right?

And about JVC, what kind of signal I'll get? It will switch to HDR mode or it has to remain in SDR?
And have I to select manually BT2020 gamma?

If you have settings to share, it will be really appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

I'd recommend discrete video settings rather than auto.

Nothing wrong with auto per se, but I always think it best to take the guesswork out of it, particularly with a projector.

If you want to try that, set the following:

Display

HDMI mode: 3840x2160p 23Hz
Color settings/Deep Color Mode: Priority 10bit
Color settings/Color Space Mode: Priority YCbCr 444
Color settings/HDMI Range Mode: 16:235

HDR to SDR/Gamma: Bright (personal preference here)
HDR: SDR Rec.2020

Then create a custom picture mode on the PJ with Standard Gamma and BT.2020 colour and you're good to go.

When the Zidoo recognises an HDR presentation, it will switch from standard Rec.709 to SDR.2020.

The projector will not auto switch into HDR since it's an SDR signal, so you'll manually have to switch to your new custom picture mode.

If you're feeling adventurous, an HDFury Vertex can be used to automate the process...

Thank you so much Mark.

I suppose you intended to say "it will switch from standard Rec.2020 to SDR.2020."

So, now I have the answer that the short test I did on Monday was not good because I got HDR signal to projector also if It was on SDR.2020 the Zidoo (but I have a lot of other settings not in auto mode so I'll try to figure out which one cause the mess).
Moreover I needed to add +40 on contrast and -30 on brightness to get a good image (but with a little white crash on the clouds of a sky) so I don't think I'm in the right way

I'll keep the community updated...can be useful for all users with Zidoo+prj

If you change contrast or brightness it makes the zidoo display wrong colors. I checked its output and it was bit perfect for colorchecker only with default values in picture settings.

No - when the Zidoo is set to "SDR Rec.2020", the menus etc are still presented in Rec.709. When an HDR video is played, the Zidoo switches from standard gamma Rec.709 to standard gamma BT.2020 (commonly, but technically incorrectly, referred to as SDR.2020).

Also, if a Rec.709 SDR video is played the Zidoo will remain in Rec.709, standard gamma.

So basically, when applied to HDR video, "SDR Rec.2020" converts the PQ gamma to a power gamma but retains the BT.2020 colour space.

Once you have it nailed, you shouldn't have to touch brightness or contrast, doing so only messes up black level (brightness) and white level (contrast).

Contrast and brightness have nothing to do with colour - contrast adjusts luminance white level and brightness adjusts luminance black level.

That’s what I also thought when I fiddled with those settings believing as you correctly say and which applies to how the contrast and brightness controls work for a TV. However I used the colorchecker function of a DVDO Avlab TPG to check the digital color output of the zidoo and in order to get correct color output I had to reset both contrast and brightness.

Those controls definetly messes up the greyscale not sure if they affect the colors.

Indeed, that's exactly what they do - adjust the top and bottom end of the greyscale.

They could affect colours with a poorly balanced implementation across the primaries, and hey, this is a cheap Android box, so who knows!

Generally though, you should only adjust at the display and leave any source settings well alone...

What I meant with incorrect greyscale is that the correct ycbcr triplet for white is (235,128,128) and zidoo’s output was producing something different. So if the color white is wrong to begin with then the whole greyscale will be affected also.

I’m not sure if these controls affect other colors but resetting BR and CR gave correct output for white and greys.

Thanks for the status update, so not fixed yet.
At this point there may be little chance to expect this to be fully fixed.

Running perfectly with the settings below but I prefer to use my projector with HDR
Probably depends that I have a small high contrast screen (100") and still a lot of nits (about 100 with low power on lamp) but I honestly prefer HDR also if the black is much better on SDR.2020

HDR to SDR/Gamma: Bright (personal preference here)
HDR: SDR Rec.2020

It's all about personal preference - if it looks right to you then it is right.

I don't use SDR.2020 either - I use my own custom curves for HDR and a Vertex so I can use the dynamic iris.

Yours is a 2016/17 projector right? I think they improved the HDR curve on those models over mine (2015/16).

On mine, Gamma D engages on an HDR signal which was way too dark and the dynamic iris is disabled.

Thank you for the info. Do you have a link for this update? My Z9S says no update needed (version 2.2.82) and the website doesn't have a download for 2.2.96.

Interested in updating because the player for some reason is becoming non-responsive to the remote (won't turn on from standby), it occasionally freezes (non-responsive to remote commands), and the front display will sometimes not light up. Yes, the remote batteries are good ;-) Thank-you!

You may need to enable beta updates on the player then update OTA.

So, does this version solve the stability issue? And if so, how do i install it via thumb? Any instructions?

Here is a link to the Zidoo form, there is a change log for this release: http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?thre...release.51434/

I haven't installed it yet, I am still on the last beta so no comment on this release's stability. To install: https://www.zidoo.tv/Support/guide/g...z%2Bdw%3D.html
