I'd say have a look at Nvidia shield or Zappati 4k.

If you don’t need HD audio bitstreaming, the PQ on the Apple TV 4K is very good.

Arrow Nvidia Shield and/or Apple TV 4K can't be beat

I have both Nvidia Shield TV (2 of them) and 1 Apple TV 4K media streamers. Both are excellent & FAST with great PQ (picture quality) with DirecTV Now and 'local's (via HD Homerun w/ antenna). However, I am not 'doing' 4K only 1080P.
1 Shield is wireless ( not using 4K)and no difference with quality and speed ( my home is small ).

I use the Nvidia Shield and it is excellent for playing back 4k .mkv files. The picture quality is very good and it has a lot of flexibility in file types and audio support. For the iso and srt stuff, you may want to use Kodi on the Shield.

Zappiti one SE with upgraded power supply, you won’t regret it.
The oppo is the best but double the price.

One thing to keep in mind about the Shield is that the native upscaling is pretty mediocre (see the 'corporate photo' section here to get an idea). Fortunately Kodi, MrMC, and Emby allow automatic resolution switching which allows you to bypass it altogether. The upscaling on the Apple TV 4K is much better to my eyes (and the upscaler built into the Infuse app is even sharper than Apple's own upscaler).

For PQ and reliable playback, Apple TV 4K is the best option. If HD Audio bitstreaming is a requirement, then I would say there is no "best" device yet.

Only the Zidoo and the nVidia pass the full HDR metadatas to display. The correct maxFALL and maxCLL values are missing on Zappiti and Apple TV 4K too.

No info about that on the official webpage, only improved HDR -> SDR conversion.
