If the trial is still available I'll sign up whenever the complete first season of Mandalorian is online.

I think Disney is missing out on something right now. The app should be available to download but when you open it, it should just be a countdown clock for when it goes live. That would be really cool.

I agree the app should be available, if nothing else to avoid server overload on the day of the service dropping .. The service is set to launch in Canada and the United States on November 12, 2019 .. the day after Veterans Day when a large portion of the population will be going back to work after a long weekend ..

By offering the app now, initial subscribers can get set up in advance of the rush .. and my suggestion would be to populate the app with teasers and trailers ..

The 2016 models will get the app, but according to this post from the Netherlands, the app on the 2016 models did not support HDR10 or DV. So that will require me to use an external device.

what's the point in adding the app if it doesn't support DV or even HDR10...what a disappointment...so they are following Apple's strategy where Apple TV+ is available on non-Apple streaming boxes etc but it won't support DV...

any idea which models have full 4K/DV support?...only the latest 2019 models?...no 2018 support either?...instead of adding a gimped version of the Disney+ app they should have just not added it at all on older model displays

I don't know which ones will support, other than that the 2016 models do not. They still may be supported though. We have no idea if the app for the tvs in the Netherlands was just experimental since they were the testbed for Disney. We will find out more on tuesday.

Good news for LG tv's. Latest post form the person in the Netherlands stating that as of today, the Disney app on the 2016 LG tv's now supports DV and HDR10.

Because Disney has a massive catalog that appeals to a very large swath of the population. HDR10 and Dolby Vision is still a pretty esoteric feature for the average TV viewer. SDR content is more than enough for the majority of viewers and it's where Disney will see their largest subscriber numbers, not with those who want HDR/DV. And most of those viewers will also be using their TV speakers and not an AVR so features like Atmos audio will be of little interest to them as well.

well that was a quick turnaround ...I give props to LG...they could have easily said no to models as far back as 2016 blaming it on an older WebOS version but instead opened it up to a lot more owners...that's something I really like about LG- their customer support is really good...they add features/fix bugs on older models and are always looking to bring new features to as many of their displays as possible...

D day is almost here and the app has not been added to my Android Sony television. When this goes live on Tuesday how will I be able to add the Disney+ app to my television? I assume that sometime soon Disney+ will send out an email for all of us early subscribers to create an account.

I am getting worried.

Well, I don't think there is anything to be worried about but there is a bit if confusion here. I don't know why they are waiting till the day off to be able to download the app. Everything will work out in the end and I think this is gonna be a great streaming service.

^^^^ Yes, I agree 100%. I am anxiously awaiting this service and I also believe that it will be a fantastic viewing experience for my entire family. I just wish that there were more clarity on how this will roll out on Tuesday. I am off that day from work so I can monkey around with setting up apps, but I wish I could do it in advance so that Tuesday morning I could just turn on the TV and start watching.

Oh well. It is still a mystery to me how I am going to add the Disney+ app to my Sony Android television. I will keep my eyes on this thread because it seems to be the most active thread on the internet right now about this very timely subject.

I’ve been checking the App Store on my iPhone periodically for the Disney+ and obviously nothing yet. So I’m wondering if it coming out right at midnight in a certain time zone?
Personally I probably won’t download the app to my devices until I’m ready to sit down and watch which most likely won’t be the first day or at the least later that evening.
Hopping that the rollout won’t be stalled by too much traffic. I’ve already forgotten my sign info also lol!

Rocky
Through the google App Store on your tv like your other apps.
I have several devices I have to download to
My Sony TV, ATV4K and 3 different FTV devices.
My plan , 3 years at the discounted price is limited to 2 screens at once but I want options on how to best view the content.

^^^^Thanks for the information. I have never downloaded an app on the TV before so if the app does not automagically populate my menu I might still need explicit directions on how to do this.

Thanks again.

I'm hearing it unlocks at 6:00 EST tomorrow...I was debating the Hulu/ESPN+ bundle but decided to go with just Disney+...the free 1 month Hulu trial is more then enough for what I want to watch- mainly Castle Rock and ESPN+ seems decent but not something I need to subscribe to

hopefully it delivers Apple TV+ bit-rates and 4K/DV image quality (or even better?)

I think you need a google account if you don’t have one already. The google store app is also in your app population. Post if your not sure when the time comes to download.

I have a Google account so I am half way there. When it comes time to fire up Disney+ I may post back here for the exact directions or I might be able to figure it out.

I'm 62 years old so my technology abilities might be limited to Windows 95. But I follow directions well.

For those wanting a quick access list of titles that are available in the Netherlands (includes resolution/hdr/etc) a user has compiled a list.

What is the endgame for Disney+?

more important than short-term tactics is Disney’s long-term ambition...behind Disney+’s low price, hefty investment and considerable risk is a much greater prize: data and direct customer relationships...Disney’s multi-product strategy has led some analysts to compare the service with Amazon’s Prime Video, rather than Netflix...the endgame in SVOD isn’t video, but entire ecosystems...

The countdown is pointing to 6:00 A.M. EST Tuesday. I hope the various App Store servers are ready for the load. Disney has no control over that. And I'm wondering how they coordinated with all the stores to release the app at the same time. I've never heard of a developer being able to do that.

load won't be as bad at that time of the day when most people are headed to work or school (or sleeping on the West Coast)

My guess is you would lose a lot of impulse buyers (subscribers). If it "installs" and says come back later... many won't. If it installs and says let's go... many will.
