Disney+ Investor Day news

Surprised someone didn’t post this already.

https://www.thewaltdisneycompany.com...r-day-webcast/

Looks like this will be huge out of the gate. The interface looks really nice and they will have 4K HDR support.

I was wondering if this would be offered as an addon to Hulu, but with HDR support I might not want that for now since Hulu doesn't do 4K or HDR. But did it say which TVs and devices would be getting the app? I have TVs from 2016 but I much prefer native apps to apps over HDMI if possible.

Awesome, very cheap. There is only one tier? I hope it's not like Netflix where if you want 4K HDR you have to pay a "premium"? I think if this is the price for the whole deal, 4k HDR included I will be getting it.

I have no interest in Disney+ myself (although it seems look a good deal for families at $7/mo ad-free). But I'm glad to hear that the service will include 4K HDR content because perhaps that means that Disney will also support that format on Hulu (of which they're the majority owner now). If nothing else, maybe Hulu Originals will be offered in 4K HDR.

Will the app be available on the AppleTV 4K or the Amazon FireStick 4K? I haven't read anything about where the apps will be available to download.

I'm curious if this is completely replacing the current disney app? That app allows live streaming of their channels if you subscribe to the cable channel, but with this new Disney+ service you are paying for the service so will the channels live be included? I can't seem to find any info about it.

Full device compatibility has not been announced. We still have time (Nov for US) before it gets released. I expect most all of the major devices to be included.

This is an OnDemand type service like NetFlix, they have not shown any “live tv” connection as of yet.

Well, it's cheaper (initially) than I thought it would be .. the Star Wars and Marvel live-action new series are the only draw for me .. I'm not interested in re-runs of Hannah Montana ..

I wonder how long this price lasts. Sounds pretty good to me at that price.

I’m guessing for awhile, they own the content so the money they’ll be putting out is for original content infrastructure. They expect to have 60-90 million subs by 2024 (estimate). That would be just under $560mil/month for D+ if they hit 80million. They could keep things low just to have “lock in”. At a certain price people will just keep a subscription around “in case” something comes on (if they like content currently on).

Personally, I think it's a teaser price .. designed to beef up subscriptions quickly .. I guess we'll see ..

Also, I figure there will be a Free Trial, so my plan is to get that and just set aside enough time within the Trial with which to partake in as much as I have an interest in .. new Marvel series / new Star Wars series ..

For those fully committed, there's an annual price of $69.99, bringing the monthly cost to $5.83. With this special price (and bundle options with Hulu and ESPN+), I would be surprised if they offered anything more than a one-week trial at launch, which is the direction most services are going in these days (away from one month).

Yeah .. from what I've seen that I have any interest in, I'm not going to jump on the Bandwagon on day of launch .. even at that, a week may be enough ..

I'm curious as to whether they will do whole season dumps or an episode a week ..

The Mandalorian
The Falcon and the Winter Solider

That's about it from what I've seen for immediate release .. the rest I've looked at is Year 2 .. so, just not a lot of content that I have an interest in ..

While I will very likely sign up once it's available it's going to come down to what new and original content the service will have as to whether I stick around or not.

If it's like Disney-owned Hulu, the originals will be released one episode per week.

4k/HDR content is included in the $6.99 price.

I really hope they offer surround sound support.

It's even cheaper if you pay yearly. Only $5.83 a month when paid yearly at $70. Which is what I plan to do.
For only $5.83 a month it's only a couple dollars cheaper than I pay for the Netflix UHD tier. Since I get Netflix gift cards from Ebay at around 50% off. So it's only around $8 a month for the UHD tier instead of the normal $16. $5.83 a month for UHD/HDR and all that Disney old and new content seems like a steal.

I'll probably jump in for a year at $70 and maybe drop my Netflix account to 2-screen 1080p to compensate. The Star Wars and Marvel content would probably be enough to get me, but the Disney film back-catalog and new releases will be really nice to have for the kids.

My main concern is the possibility of there being some delay in app availability for Android TV, which is my platform of choice everywhere but in the kids' rooms (which use Roku Express)... but even then, Chromecast support was announced, so even with some delay, there will at least be a workaround.

I'm also curious as to what the delay will be between streaming purchase/disc release and subscription streaming access for new release films... hopefully less than their content on Netflix, but I'm sure they won't want to cannibalize disc and streaming purchase too much.

The release window will be the same as it is now. After the usual 6 month theatrical release, then home video/pay per view for 4-6 months, then the pay tv period begins.

Of course, Disney+ may try and monetize films by doing PPV before freely releasing to the subscribers .. the Mouse is very, very good at making money ..
