MKV Atmos Unsupported Audio Format

Hey guys,

I've found many posts from others having the same issue as me but can't find a straight answer. I 'm trying to play 4K MKV's with dolby atmos tracks through my Sony X700 blu ray player via usb external hard drive. I keep getting that "unsupported audio format" error. The video plays fine and I'm able to switch to the 5.1 audio track. I usually use my 4TB WD external hd but have also tried using a 1TB external as suggested in the forums but no luck. It plays fine through my pc using VLC player. My pc is connected to my Marantz AVR directly with hdmi. I just don't understand why this is an issue since everthing clearly supports dolby atmos.

Any help??

Marantz 6012 SVS PB 1000 (2)
B&W 683 S2 (2) (towers)
B&W HTM61 S2 (center)
B&W 686 S2 (2) (side rears)
SVS Prime Elevations (4)

Sony bluray players have not supported Dolby True HD (therefore Atmos) via "MKV" file streaming for several generations of their players now.... only AC-3 or dolby digital sound which you have found.... Although, I believe it does work if your files are M2TS though...

Do you know of any devices that would work using my external hd? I think I read somewhere that the Nvidia Shield might work...

Ah good to know! I think I'll be picking one up next payday. Never picked up a 4K streaming device yet anyways

Thanks!
