Older Roku devices won't stream Netflix after December 1

So, just in time for the holidays, apparently Netflix and possibly other apps will not stream on older Roku devices after December 1, 2019.

I heard about this the other day and I have to say it's kinda messed up. It's forcing you to buy a new streaming device of some kind.

Should an 11 year old device be expected to handle current software changes forever?

Dazed and confused over high tech.

Get a newer Roku refurbished ones are inexpensive and way faster than the old ones. I've never paid over 55 dollars for one and the last one I got was a Premiere Plus (the first one with wired ethernet).

I agree but I am sure there will be many others that will not. Popping another$15 for a new Roku won;t cause me financial strain, but i am sure that is not the case for others.
Might be a good time for Amazon to offer a "deal" on firesticks for those customers though!

Too funny @crabboy, I see what you did there. Somedays at 51, I am just trying to have fun.

This is the case for many older Sony devices as well:

https://www.sony.com/electronics/sup...icles/00232373

It's not a huge loss though as many of these devices, the built-in Netflix was limited to 720p anyway. My 40EX40B and 46HX909 have this same generation of software and both are 720p-limited on Netflix despite being 1080p TVs. On the 40" it's not so noticeable, on the 46"...well never bothered using the built-in Netflix, let's put it that way.

I have a 4640X model....I just received an email stating-
". We’re reaching out to let you know that, as of November 15th, this Roku player will no longer receive new software updates, and to extend a special offer to keep you streaming well into the future. " etc., etc.....

Huh?? The unit is not even 2 years old...I don't want to replace it because its an ethernet connection, not wifi….

My understanding after looking thru this and other threads is I still should be able to do everything with this unit...am I correct??
