Best DVDFab/Plex server settings for lossless movie rips + metadata

I'm fairly new to Plex and ripping blu-ray movies (HD+UHD) via DVDFab 11. My goal is to preserve bit-perfect video and HD audio streams and play them back appropriately on my 4K ATV. I'm using DVDFab, and yet to find the perfect combination of ripping settings to get Plex working the way I want.

Specifically, if I rip to MP4 format I appear to lose HD audio (only get DTS 5.1, instead of DTS-HD MA 7.1 of my source), but I do get full automated metadata in Plex (description, etc.). But if I rip to MKV format I do get HD audio and pristine picture, but I lose the rich metadata import in Plex. For the MP4 format I selected a "passthrough" profile in DVDFab.

I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong ripping settings, or don't have Plex properly configured. Is there a way to both preserve bit-perfect audio/video and get automated rich metadata in Plex for movies?

DVDFab- use MKV container and HEVC (H265), 2 pass high quality, pass through audio. You could use other video codecs, but none will be lossless if you transcode

Plex- select “enhanced video player”

Not sure what streamer you’re using... I use multiple AppleTV’s with this configuration. I get HD audio, just no Atmos with Plex. Everything is Direct Play, no Plex transcoding.

If the content doesn’t need pass through audio (a romcom or documentary), I transcode audio to EAC3 and it’s fine for 5.1 audio. I used AAC 5.1 to (512-684Kb) too. Both work in my setup.

The HEVC transcode quality is good enough for most content, still storage saving thanks to HEVC, but takes a hit with the audio pass through.

I’d (disc copy) for the source and do a few transcodes with different audio/video codecs and see what you prefer as a standard.
