It's supposedly available from June, but they haven't even released any pictures other than dodgy photoshop renders yet...

Not sure that really means anything. There are only renders available of the RealBox 4K as well, yet multiple people have that in their hands already.

I pre-ordered one. It will be interesting to compare to the pro.

Do we know yet if this new model is supposed to fix the bogus HDR metadata issue in the the Dune 4K Pro? Or is it too early to call?
If I manage to get my hands on one I will report back on this (as well as the frame rate and banding of course).

It's fixed on the new cheaper Realbox 4K (along with the framerate issue) that is already available, so I imagine it would be fixed on the Pro 4K II as well.

Great.

The realbox was of interest, but I have a USB 3.0 WD HDD for UHD stuff, so I think I'll wait on the Pro 4K II.

Dune also has a STB with AV1 support called "Dune HD AV1 4K", which additionally features Dolby Vision and HDR10+:

Quote:
Key Features:
  • The world's first STB with support for the latest AV1 video codec
  • Exceptionally high picture quality due to the latest Realtek RTD1319 media processor
  • Support for the latest video standards: 4Kp60, AV1, VP9 Profile 2, HEVC 10-bit, HDMI 2.1, HDR10+, DolbyVision*
  • 3 internal antennas for maximum Wi-Fi (802.11ac 2T2R) and Bluetooth performance
  • USB 3.1 port, 1 Gbit Ethernet port*
  • Advanced DRM technology: Widevine Level 1, Verimatrix*
  • Android 10.0 (AOSP / Android TV)
Furthermore, Dune is listed as a HDR10+ adopter:

And since the SoC supports it anyway I think its highly likely that they will support it on the Pro II as well.

Interesting - where's that aimed at? Quad core rather than Hexa-core, G31 GPU and lots of strangely "optional features"...

Just noticed Futeko have the Realbox in stock to ship on Monday, so just ordered one to have a look at.

I'm sure it's just a typo on the Futeko listing but they say the player has HDR+, which is the fake simulated HDR mode on Samsung televisions. Not the HDR10+.

Not sure what you mean, but the SoC has official support for the dynamic HDR format called HDR10+:
https://www.realtek.com/en/products/...s/item/rtd1395

If Dune is able/allowed to activate is another question. However, I don’t see a reason not to enable it by Dune.

I'm not disputing that at all. I simply said the listing on the aforementioned Futeko listing has a typo of "HDR+", and not "HDR10+".

Not sure if they're still around - just went to duneplayer.com and my antivirus kicked off about JS:CardStealer-AC[trj] and even google cached pages don't work??

Just tried on a non antivirus VMWare box and it tells me their certificate expired.

Works on a windows 7 VMware box, but it kind of looks abandoned...

I see you couldn't resist finally.

I think I will wait for the HD Pro 4K II Plus (yes with the Plus) despite not even being announced.
Those displays are simply too small for me and I do like the specific Plus features on the outgoing model.

Yeah, I though it was worth a look for the price, or so the Malbec I was drinking that night told me

It certainly won't take any serious 4K duties - with all the work on the Zidoos recently, I'm pretty firmly based in that camp now, but I'm a sucker for new toys.

Not sure I'd do the same with the Pro II at £270 though.

I know you're more geared towards music - I use Linn DS for music - ever looked at those?

Will be very interesting to see what other models Dune, Zappiti and Zidoo come up with. After using infuse on the ATV 4K its really hard to find an equivalent media center for me. But there are more and more HDR10+ web-dls appearing so I need a player with that as well.
FYI: I contacted my old contact from Dune (was the European distributor in the netherlands) but he doesn't work there anymore. Haven't received an answer regarding a review device. Might try contacting futeko as well.

@markswift2003 : Is the mediacenter of Zidoo in UHD resolution or is it 1080p?

It's 1080.

I think your best bet is Futeko - I've used them a couple of times and they ship out very quickly - it'd only be a couple of days over to you.

I am one of the few which actually moved over te MCH (5,1) for music too.
So I also enjoy MCH SACD, DTS-CD and BD sources next to Stereo.

It is very hard to find a music player for that. All the audiophiles seemed to have remained with 2CH Stereo. Obviously it must output these formats via HDMI to my MCH DSD/PCM capable Amplifier. I don't think Linn does that for me?

To be honest Zidoo Music Player is a mess for the information shown but actually works quite well as-is music quality wise. This using the Zidoo Controller APP for almost all my desired formats (not MCH SACD but yes converts to MCH FLAC). As I regularly close my eyes listening it is not so relevant what is actually shown on the TV.

In the past used my Pioneer SACD player BDP-LX55 for music. Still do so for native MCH SACD with DSD listening (burned). These are not that many so it is doable.

There is a player that can play all that. The OPPO UDP-203

As Oppo did cancel its production, the alternative comes now with the clones. I have two of them along with the Dunes Solo 4K and PRO 4K and they really works well as a universal player for nearly everything!

PD. I'm also a fan of MCH, Atmos and Auro-3D music.

Gotcha - must admit I only listen to 2 channel these days, but I do have quite a collection of DVD-A, SACD and yes, DTS audio discs.. so I can see why these players are attractive for that.

I believe you can do multi channel with Linn, but it seems to be a bit of a faff.

Anyway... a bit OT maybe...

Yeah I checked with Dune-HD and there aren't any authorized sellers in the States. So looks like duneplayer.com is done. Kind of sad really.

I’d like to order one too for a look see. Quite miss the cast crew explorer in mycollection.

Most of my blus are in BDMV folder structure wrapped in AVCHD to play on my Cambridge Blu-ray player. Does the Dune support AVCHD folders?

Never tried, but why not? It will be just like the movie is called AVCHD.

Could be annoying if you use a jacket interface though.

Yep quite a bit of poster fixing would be due

I had a Solo last year but can’t remember if it worked well with AVCHD, I think it was OK but hardly used it.

Yes, very much so - not sure why but Dune just seemed to pull all their dealers, not that there were many.

Must admit I was very surprised to see Dunes back at Futeko - I guess that's your easiest route - they ship worldwide and usually same day when in stock so I'd guess just a few days to the States.

For those wondering the price difference between models:

Dune HD RealBox 4K is the smaller brother to start with. RTD1395 does functionally the same as RTD1619 just using the old CPU/GPU of RTD1295. It is a bit shy on ports with no USB3 and no SATA. The mainboard power section omitted the 12V => 5V internal stabilizer and the PSU is straight 5V 2A powering that mainboard directly. USB3 can't even potentially work with that PSU for sure and even 2x 500mA for USB2 might just do? I do highly recommend using a powered USB2 hub with it when using USB powered 2.5 inch HDD's with it.

The minimalist power design may have some negative impact on Video and Audio quality! It is a mainboard build around the Realtek RTD1395 SOC with as few additional components as possible. That is how the box could be made that small!

It is alse running Android 7 which personally don't expect to be upgraded ever to Android 9.
Seen Dune using its own OS/GUI next to Android has less relevance than with other brands.

For sure still great value for money overall, but would go always for the bigger brother when using external HDD's like I do myself.
