Dolby Atmos Music on Tidal

Curious if anyone has gotten this to work. Have a 4K AppleTV that is on the list of devices that should work. I get Dolby Surround with it. When I try FireTV 4K stick also listed as good to go, I get playing in stereo device not capable of Atmos playback. If anyone did get it to work how does it sound?

I get the same msg from Tidal on both: Nvidia Shield 2019, and Sony XG9505 Android TV.

Tidal pushed an update this morning, now Atmos works on the Shield 2019, just make sure Dolby Audio Processing ia disabled in the Shield settings, so that Atmos is passed through to your receiver/decoder.

Certainly have. Now Atmos on ATV, Shield and Firestick. Took advantage of their 60 day free trial. Not sure I'll be stumping up £20 pm at the end of the trial though!

Not yet seeing dolby on on fire tv stick 4k. Also not sure how to tell when app last updated. I've got auto updates enabled and have never seen indication of app updates. My shield TV is 2015 edition so no luck there as appears 2019 only.

I couldn’t get Dolby Atmos from the Apple TV 4K last night. I updated the Apple TV and then deleted and reinstalled the Tidal app. It came on with a Dolby Atmos advert and I played a couple of tracks. The mixes weren’t very impressive and the volume had to be turned way up to hear it. I went back to the Onkyo’s built in Tidal app for two channel music as it sounds better than playing music from the Apple TV. It cannot play the Atmos tracks and brings up a message that reads “ Asset not ready for playback”.

I have only done a little listening via my Shield but all of the Atmos tracks I have tried have been very quiet (10-15db) compared to stereo tracks on Tidal. So far not impressed by the mixes. Please let me know of any good ones.

Proper Atmos support begins with proper surround sound recording for Atmos.

I don't know how tracks are re-mixed for Atmos nowadays from older source material, but my impression is that the additional (height) channels are often treated like two traditional audio channels, rather than sound that's meant to reveal the acoustics of the intended 3D space/environment.

Surround music via Tidal has some promise for those who like that "immersion" experience pun intended Pink Floyd fans understand. I think it could only get better as it goes along right now its not all that great sounding and for some reason i too had problems getting it to work at first. Shield seems to work fine now.

Again, I have done very limited listening so I can't say much but there is more going on than only adding heights. The James Brown tracks have the vocals in the rear channels.

Finally working on the Fire TV Stick. Have not listened to much to form an opinion one way or the other.
