Disney Plus 4k SDR streams

Has anyone heard if Disney plans to add 4k SDR streams?

Currently if the Television doesn't support HDR, 4K streams are in 1080p, which is frustrating for a non-HDR 4K TV owner.

I would doubt that to be honest. I wouldn't even think Disney knew this was an issue, I didn't even know it was an issue, sorry.

I don't know how much of a demand there is for a separate 4K only stream. Don't most modern 4K TV's do a pretty decent job of upscaling a 1080p stream to 4K? Most 1080p only streams from Disney+ or other streaming services look pretty good on my 4K televsion. I assume it is upscaling to 4K.

Well Netflix and Prime do support UHD SDR and I can tell a big difference in the resolution on a 79inch when the stream is just 1080p

Chatted support but they used the throttling excuse in Europe (I didn’t ellaborate on DNS usage…) and even when put to their secondary team they said that would be the deferred reason. But US users report the same.

Anyone from the US Disney Plus user with a non-HDR UHD TV fancy chatting them?

Be interested to know if this is a future improvement.

I assume projector users have same issues.

79-inch 4K Television? Projector owners, and I am one of them, are such a small number compared to 4K televisions with upscaling capability. I am not saying it wouldn't be nice, I just wonder how many can see a huge quality difference between a 1080p image upscaled to 4K if you are 8 feet away from the screen. For me, the noticeable difference in quality is when HDR or Dolby Vision is present.

That’s fair enough. 79inch 4k tv, stupidly bought a year before HDR models.

So speaking to them again it seems this issue isn’t expected so they’re raising a ticket with support.

Is anyone able to use an Apple TV 4K with a HDR TV and confirm that when setting the Apple TV 4K to 4k SDR, they get a 1080p stream?
