Which correct Audio settings for KODI for my AV receiver ?! I’m confused 😐

Hi folks

I have a 5.1 home cinema setup
My AV amp is a Denon AVR-X2200W Amp
I’m sure it can decode all audio types

I’ve just installed latest version of KODI 18.7 and in the system options in the audio setting on EXPERT mode, I don’t know whether to select 2.0 or 5.1 for my setup where it says “number of channels” I’m only using HDMI from my Amazon Fire TV box into my AV Receiver

I’ve allowed passthrough .. have I missed anything or what other settings would you recommend? I want to watch films in the best sound possible (obviously)

Getting conflicting information on an article I read here about HDMI settings (towards the bottom of the article)

http://themediaserver.com/understand-5-1-7-1-surround-sound-htpc-kodi/

it says to change number of channels to 5.1 and turn OFF “allow passthrough” 🤷🏻*♂️🙄🤦*♂️ Aaarrghhhhhhhhhh

It doesnt make a difference as long as you have passthrough checked off. Kodi will send whatever it reads to the receiver and it will decode the sound. And yes turn on passthrough

I believe the reason why it’s recommended to turn off pass through on the fire TV devices is they don’t support pass through of lossless audio codecs like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. However, if you turn pass through off, and set your channel count correctly, Kodi on the fire TV will decode those codecs internally and send them out as LPCM, which will be better quality.

You should set both the ftv and kodi to passthroug, let the avr take care of the decoding. Iirc the ftv setting is "best available"
