There is one in Madison Heights. It's not too far from Detroit, given that it is a suburb... I've got a lot of stuff planned for tomorrow, not sure when I might be able to get there.

FWIW, their website shows the price is $4k. The store local to me has 6 in stock. I might have to make the drive there tomorrow because if it is $2k I'd probably have to buy one.

Of course if this makes it onto the deal sites and the local store has them for that price there won't be any by the time I can get there.
Good luck but prepared to be an OLED lifer, once your here is hard to leave. Puck up 2 and flip one on ebay for $3k and you will have only paid 1k for yours.

my local one shows 4 in stock, I'll buy all of them and profit

Will be calling first thing in the am

Watched Elysium on it tonight, by far the best pictured tv I've ever viewed
Watched man of steel on standard setting, blown away
Wasn't aware of the game mode, titanfall popped that much more

No sir, nothing that I have noticed
I have read a lot about the Fps lag on these, if it is showing up, I'm not seeing it

On a side note, I had to reset the settings as I put in the wrong Netflix info
That defaulted all screens to Eco, which is what I was using to compare it to the plasma
When I put it on standard, the picture got really bright and resembles an LCD with plasma blacks
Kind of worried me about ir/burn in it was so bright
Surely lgs factory settings are setting their sets up for issues?
Hopefully it's just ignorance on my part to what this new technology can handle

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with this picture though; you guys seem to be all over the Fry's deal for $3k+... but, check out this pricetag below. Seems too good to be true almost.

Sorry for the upside down image; posting from my iPad. If you can't read upside down the TL;DR = LG 55in OLED for $2k.

Are you sure that's the same TV? I don't recognize that grill at the bottom (top) of the picture. You have a picture of the whole TV?

Issues and Recommendations with the LG 55EA9800

I've been following this thread and the Sony 900b 4K UHD thread. Originally I wanted to upgrade from my 60" Kuro 6010 and was considering going 4K (following 4k since last Dec). I recently saw most of the current 4K models and the LG OLED. I really liked the LG OLED, saw the French review photos of Sky Fall comparing the OLED vs 4K LCD vs Plasma, and I'm sold at $2K for the LG OLED. I going to keep my Kuro versus replacing it (it only has 10k hours on it and still looks excellent) and set the OLED in my family room. I've read most of this thread but from what I see, the issues are dead pixels, IR, 30k hour life, and the blue lights loose their brightness faster. Did I miss anything? Has anybody noticed the blue light brightness issue? Where do I find the IR burn-in disk? How long do I need to run it? Is there any reason not to buy this tv at $2k other than the new models are coming out soon and some of these issues could be addressed? Thanks, Mike G. reviewer of the Panny 6uy for stereotimes.com

What is the blue light brightness issue?
I do notice that there is kore blue in the pic when comparing standard mode to thx mode
Made the movie I was watching last night look like a tv show, switched to thx mode, looked like a movie again
Not sure what in the settings was responsible for that

From Wikipedia:

Problems with OLED
OLED seems to be the perfect technology for all types of displays, but it also has some problems:
Lifetime - While red and green OLED films have longer lifetimes (46,000 to 230,000 hours), blue organics currently have much shorter lifetimes (up to around 14,000 hours[source: OLED-Info.com]).
Manufacturing - Manufacturing processes are expensive right now.
Water - Water can easily damage OLEDs.

That's not relevant to the LG, which uses "white" OLEDs for all the subpixel colors.

Wow! That's a stunning, incredible price. As frustrating as it is that we don't have this set available at anywhere near this price in the UK, I can imagine it must be even more so to be living somewhere in the US which doesn't have a Microcenter store.

If you do live near one, and are in the market for a new 55" set, I think you'd have to be pretty nutty, or intent on waiting for the Gen 2 sets, to pass this up.

Congrats, 5x10 - I envy you.

I thought you already got one from Sam's? Maybe they can price match so you can avoid the hassle of returns.

Both Samsung & LG have made changes to improve the lifespan of OLED, This is old data. Of course Samsung's did not curve production cost, too bad because from what I here they are slightly better than the LG panels. Why worry too much about things we can't control? If you jump in, jump in with both feet and enjoy your OLED by the time it is tired 4k OLED should be affordable.

If you think 4k OLED will be cheap it may be awhile. Someone told me inside Fry's that the 65" is coming in 2-3 months and will be $16,000.

Just picked mine up for $2,000 at microcenter this morning!!!! I'm so excited!! I'm glad I didn't jump on the Frys sale a month ago when it was $4,500. I walked in the store and they had it on display for $2,000. Funny thing, I walked out with two tv's. As I was waiting for the OLED to be brought out from the back, one of the sales guys told me they had a 55" LG 4K on sale for $1,099. I thought he was joking. He wasn't. They have the LG 55LA9650 for $1,099!!!!!! My wife actually forced me to get it :-) Bestbuy is still selling the 4K LG for $2,399.00. I can't believe I walked out of Microcenter with a OLED AND 4K TV for $3,100!!! Just insane.

Thanks! I would have never thought to look at Microcenter for this tv, so a big thanks to the AVS Forums and members for making me aware. You guys are awesome!

I'm on my way to Savannah for the next couple days so I wasn't even able to unbox either tv. Can't wait to get back :-)

BTW, is there anything I should know or expect now before sitting in awe watching this? Just thinking as far as setup or picture settings. Maybe there's some definite do's or dont's with this tv.

Lastly, I think OLED needs a sales tag line. After my wife saw this tv next to all the others, she could clearly without any doubt see a difference in picture quality. All the other technology thus far, not really. She never understood why I was always upgrading. So the sales tag line should be, "OLED. Wife approved." :-)

Yes I try my hardest to ignore all the deals people have gotten after I bought mine for 5k, but this just has me po'd. I'm mean I'm happy for those who are able to get them at these prices but I've never seen something drop in price this fast. Can they really sell them for 2k and still make a profit? Why on earth did they try to push them out at 15k at first?1

If I sow a wind now, I will reap a storm.

I also don't understand how, makes me wonder if they know something is up with these sets

I tried to get SAMs to price match, they declined
I offered them the factory sealed one I picked up from micro center, they declined

Already have the old one boxed up, new one out
Special thanks to the member that let us know about the sales price, even the employee helping me was shocked at the price drop, said blue tag items aren't usually sales that last for long

I completely understand your frustration and I hope I didn't come off as bragging or rubbing it in anyone's face. Just confirming that the price is legit and anyone who's been on the fence about OLED, should jump on this deal fast.

I feel your pain spending more on electronics when it's brand new or brand new technology. This was one of the few times it actually paid off to wait. I would have never guessed they could sell this OLED for even $5,000 much less $2,000. Doesn't seem possible when it started at $15,000. Makes me question how much markup there truly are in TV's.

According to someone I spoke to at Frys the 2014 are a couple months away, more sizes, 4k sets and substantially higher prices. The 55 OLED's non 4k are supposed to be up at $7k. Will they be better? I do not believe by much accept the new operating menu system which is supposed to be great and the larger screens with 4k for those who can afford $10k plus. Just be happy you did not purchase at $10k which some very early on did.

Why on earth did they try to push them out at 15k at first?1
I completely understand your frustration and I hope I didn't come off as bragging or rubbing it in anyone's face.

Jump in fast is correct, this is probably a temp price cut to move some stock fast.

Yeah I normally just tell myself "this is unavoidable, its technology and thus par for the course. This would happen no matter what you bought"....but this is just insane! I spent 2.5 the price plus tax only 2-3 months ago, and it really does make me wonder what shady nonsense LG is up to. It's absolutely shady to do that to a product that retailed at 15k on release just one year ago. What do they know? About all its flaws, for sure. Maybe they have prototypes which have begun to fail, and a few CEO's in tall skyscrapers of Seoul have a projected lifespan for the sets which greatly eclipses what they originally proposed? The whole thing is weird to me. I'm glad I got a good EW.

If I sow a wind now, I will reap a storm.

Wow, this is the most amazing 3D tv ever. I tried active 3D on the Sony 65X900B and within minutes my eyes felt heavy and I had a bad headache, passive 3D is the best.
